EDD sent me award letter with wrong info - can't register with my customer number

I'm having the weirdest issue with EDD right now and not sure if anyone else has dealt with this. I received my award letter yesterday (dated for tomorrow, which is already strange) that shows my quarterly earnings and has my customer account number on it. When I tried to register on UI Online with this number, the system said something was incorrect - either my name, DOB, SSN, or the customer number itself doesn't match their records. Has anyone experienced this? Do I need to file a whole new claim, or just fix whatever info is wrong with my current one? If I have to call them to sort this out, how long should I expect to wait? This is my first time on unemployment and I'm already confused by their process!

You definitely don't need to file a new claim! This happens more than you'd think. There's probably just a small discrepancy between what you entered on your application and what's in their system. Could be something as simple as a typo in your name (like using your full name vs. nickname) or a transposed number in your SSN. The fastest way to resolve this is to call EDD directly and have them verify your information.

Thanks for the reassurance! I triple-checked everything I entered but I guess something still got mixed up. Any tips on the best time to call? I've heard horror stories about waiting for hours.

OMG the exact same thing happened to me back in January!!! It took me FOUR DAYS of calling non-stop to get through. The EDD rep told me that my middle name was entered as part of my first name in their system which is why it kept rejecting me. Such a stupid little thing but it completely blocked me from accessing my account. So frustrating!!!

Four days?! I can't afford to wait that long. That's ridiculous that something so small could cause such a big problem.

I only got the one letter so far, but I'll keep an eye out for another one. The weird thing is this letter definitely has a customer number on it, it's just not working.

I had the same issue last year. Here's what you need to do: 1. Double-check all your personal information for any discrepancies (even small ones matter) 2. Make sure you're entering the customer account number exactly as shown on the letter (including any dashes or spaces) 3. Try registering using a different browser or clearing your cache 4. If none of that works, you'll need to call EDD directly You definitely DON'T need to file a new claim - that would actually create more problems. This is just a registration issue that needs to be corrected on their end.

Thanks for the detailed steps! I've tried 1-3 already with no luck, so I guess I'm down to calling them. Not looking forward to that based on what others are saying about the wait times.

I had something similar happen and the issue was they had my birthdate wrong by one day. Took forever to get it fixed cuz you can't do it online. Good luck getting through on the phone though - I spent like 3 weeks trying before I finally got someone!

I've helped dozens of people get through to EDD quickly using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It's a service that basically waits on hold for you and then calls you when an EDD rep is on the line. Saved me about 4 hours of hold time when I had an identity verification issue similar to yours. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km I know it sounds too good to be true, but it works. Their system can get through even when the lines say they're at max capacity.

Does this actually work? I'm skeptical of anything claiming to bypass EDD's phone system...

the EDD system is BROKEN. i've been dealing with them for 3 months and they still haven't fixed my account. they had my SSN wrong by ONE digit and now i'm stuck in bureaucratic hell. prepare to wait HOURS on the phone only to be told they'll "look into it" and then nothing happens!!!

Oh no, that sounds awful! I really hope I don't end up in the same situation. Did you ever get it resolved?

One important thing to remember is that EDD often displays years rather than birth dates in their records. So if you were born in 1985, make sure you're not trying to enter "1985" as the day/month when registering. I've seen this trip up a lot of people. Also, check if your name has any special characters or spaces that might be causing issues. Their system is very particular about these things.

Update for anyone finding this thread later: The issue with registration after receiving an award letter is usually one of these five things: 1. Name format mismatch (middle name/initial issues) 2. Birth date format error 3. SSN transposition 4. Customer account number entered incorrectly 5. EDD system glitch that requires agent intervention In most cases, you can resolve this with a phone call to EDD. Yes, the wait times can be long, but it's faster than waiting for mail correspondence or filing a new claim (which would be incorrect in this situation).

Thanks for summarizing! I ended up using that Claimyr service someone mentioned above and got through to EDD yesterday. Turns out they had my first name and middle name switched in their system. The rep fixed it right away and I was able to register! Such a simple issue but impossible to fix without talking to someone.
