EDD account registration error with EDDCAN number - anyone else having this problem?
I got my EDDCAN number in the mail last week (filed my initial UI claim on 4/12/25), but when I try to register my account online, the system keeps rejecting it with some vague error message. I've triple-checked all my info - birthdate, SSN, name spelled exactly as on the letter - but nothing works! The error just says "information cannot be verified" which isn't helpful at all. Has anyone experienced this? Do I need to wait longer after filing before I can register? It's been about 10 days now and I'm getting worried because I can't certify without setting up my UI Online account. Any advice would be really appreciated!

This happens a lot! The system needs time to fully process your claim in their database before the registration will work. I had the exact same issue last year. What worked for me was waiting 14 full days after receiving my EDDCAN letter, then trying again. Their system updates in batches, not in real-time. Also make sure you're using the exact name format on your EDD documents - if your name has a hyphen, space, or suffix on your documents, you need to enter it exactly that way in the registration form.

•Thanks for the info! I'll wait a few more days and try again. My name is pretty simple but maybe I'll try adding my middle initial since it's on the letter? The waiting is just stressful because I need to start certifying soon.

•THREE WEEKS?! Are you kidding me? That's ridiculous!! How are we supposed to certify if we can't even set up our accounts? This system is completely broken. I'm already stressing about bills and now this?!

Happened to me too! Make sure you're using the right website. The registration page is different from the regular login page. Go to "Benefits Programs Online" first and select "Register" not the UI Online login.

•I'm definitely on the right page - going through Benefits Programs Online and hitting Register. Still getting that error. I'll try a different browser tomorrow maybe?

A few things to check that worked for others: 1. Make sure you're waiting at least 10 business days (not calendar days) after filing before trying to register 2. Try entering your name in ALL CAPS exactly as it appears on the EDD letter 3. Enter your birthday in MM/DD/YYYY format 4. Double check the EDDCAN number - sometimes people misread the letter O for zero 5. If you have any special characters in your name (hyphens, apostrophes), include them exactly If none of that works after 14 business days, you'll need to call EDD directly. Unfortunately their phone lines are overwhelmed, so it might take many attempts.

•Thank you for these detailed suggestions! I'll try the ALL CAPS thing tomorrow. And you're right - I should count business days not just regular days. Really appreciate the help!

My cousin just dealt with this. She couldn't register online no matter what she tried but when she finally got through on the phone they told her there was a "flag" on her account that needed to be cleared first. Something about identity verification that wasn't showing up in the system. So maybe there's something specific to your claim?

•Ugh, that's concerning. Now I'm worried there might be some issue with my claim that I don't even know about. Did they tell your cousin why there was a flag? I really don't want to get stuck in verification limbo.

•If you're struggling to reach EDD by phone, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. It's a service that connects you directly to an EDD rep without the endless redial game. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked for me when I had issues with my account registration. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km and their website is claimyr.com. Saved me hours of frustration when I needed to clear up an issue with my EDDCAN registration that couldn't be fixed online.

One more thing to check - are you using a mobile device to register? Some people have reported that the EDD registration system works better on desktop computers. Also, try using Chrome or Edge instead of Safari if you're on an iPhone/Mac. The EDD website has compatibility issues with certain browsers.

•I've been using my laptop with Chrome, but I'll try Edge tomorrow just to see if it makes a difference. This is so frustrating!

The SAME EXACT THING happened to me in January!!! I called literally 47 times before getting through. When I finally spoke to someone, they told me there was a TYPO in my SSN in their system!!! They had entered one digit wrong when processing my claim, which was why the online registration kept failing. They fixed it while I was on the phone and I could register immediately after. CHECK YOUR SSN ON YOUR DOCUMENTS!!

•Oh wow, that's definitely worth checking! I'll look at my paperwork tonight. Thanks for the tip - at least it gives me something concrete to look for instead of just guessing.

Update us when you get this resolved! Based on what everyone is saying, it sounds like you might just need to wait a few more days OR there could be a specific issue with your claim information. Either way, don't panic yet. The registration issues are common but fixable.

•I promise to update! Going to try a few more days of waiting, then the ALL CAPS trick, then checking my SSN on the paperwork. If none of that works, I'll try reaching them by phone. Thanks everyone for all the helpful suggestions!

•That's a good point! The registration asks for BOTH pieces of information on different screens, so it's easy to get confused about which number goes where. The EDDCAN is usually 10 digits.

UPDATE: IT WORKED! I waited until exactly 14 business days after filing, entered my name in ALL CAPS, and it finally accepted my registration! Thanks everyone for your help. Now I just need to figure out how to backdate my certifications since I missed my first certification period while dealing with this registration issue...

•That's awesome news! So glad the ALL CAPS trick worked for you. For backdating your certifications, you'll need to call EDD and explain that you couldn't register due to the system error. They should be able to backdate your first certification period since it wasn't your fault. Make sure to mention that you tried multiple times starting 10 days after filing but the system kept rejecting your registration. They're usually pretty understanding about technical issues preventing timely certification.

•Congrats on getting it working! I'm dealing with the same issue right now - got my EDDCAN last week and keep getting that "information cannot be verified" error. Going to try the ALL CAPS method tomorrow since it's been exactly 10 business days for me. Quick question - when you called about backdating, did they make you wait on hold forever or were you able to get through pretty quickly? I'm dreading having to call but don't want to lose those certification weeks.

•Congrats on getting through! I'm having the exact same problem right now - been trying to register for 8 days with no luck. Definitely going to try the ALL CAPS trick since that seems to be what worked for you. Quick question - did you have to enter your middle initial too, or just first and last name in caps? My EDDCAN letter has my full name including middle initial so I want to make sure I'm doing it exactly right. Thanks for updating us with what worked!

•@Freya Christensen So happy you got it working! The ALL CAPS trick seems to be the magic solution. For the backdating issue, when you call EDD make sure to have your confirmation number from when you originally filed ready, plus the dates you attempted to register. They usually ask for that info to verify you weren t'just procrastinating. Also try calling right at 8am when they open - seems to be the best time to get through without waiting forever on hold.

•@Freya Christensen That s'such great news! I m'currently stuck in the same boat - got my EDDCAN letter about a week ago and keep getting that same frustrating information "cannot be verified error." Going to try the ALL CAPS approach tomorrow since I m'at about 12 business days now. Really appreciate you coming back to update everyone on what worked! Quick question - when you enter your name in all caps, did you include any middle initial or just first and last name? Want to make sure I get it right on my next attempt.

•@Freya Christensen Congratulations on getting through! I m'so relieved to see someone actually solve this issue. I ve'been trying to register for 9 days now with the exact same error message. Going to wait until I hit that 14 business day mark and then try the ALL CAPS method. This whole process is so stressful when you re'already dealing with unemployment. Thanks for taking the time to update everyone - it gives the rest of us hope that there s'actually a solution!

•@Freya Christensen That s'fantastic news! I m'currently on day 11 of trying to register with the same error message, so this gives me hope. Just to clarify - when you entered your name in ALL CAPS, did you match it exactly to how it appears on your EDDCAN letter including any middle initials or suffixes? My letter shows my full middle name so I want to make sure I m'not overthinking it. Also, did you clear your browser cache before the successful attempt? Some websites are picky about stored form data. Really appreciate you coming back to share what worked!

•@Freya Christensen So glad you got it working! I m'dealing with the exact same issue right now - been stuck for about a week with that same information "cannot be verified error." I ll'definitely try the ALL CAPS method once I hit the 14 business day mark. Quick question - did you have to clear your browser cookies/cache before the successful attempt, or did you just change the name format? Also wondering if you had to enter your full middle name or just the initial since my EDDCAN letter has my complete middle name on it. Thanks so much for updating us - it s'such a relief to know there s'actually a solution!

I'm going through this exact same issue right now! Got my EDDCAN letter 5 days ago and keep getting that "information cannot be verified" error no matter what I try. It's so frustrating because you feel like you're doing something wrong but clearly this is a common system problem. Really glad to see @Freya Christensen got it resolved with the ALL CAPS trick - gives me hope! I'm going to wait until I hit that 14 business day mark like everyone suggests and then try the caps method. Has anyone had luck with calling EDD about this specific registration issue, or is it better to just wait it out and keep trying online? The phone wait times sound absolutely brutal from what people are saying.

•@Lucy Taylor I m'in the exact same boat as you! Just got my EDDCAN letter a few days ago and hitting that same wall with the verification error. It s'honestly reassuring to know this isn t'just me being an idiot with the registration form. From everything I ve'read here, it seems like the waiting approach combined with the ALL CAPS trick has the best success rate. I m'personally going to avoid the phone route if possible since everyone says it s'basically impossible to get through. The 14 business day wait seems annoying but way less stressful than spending days trying to reach someone on the phone. Fingers crossed the caps method works for both of us when we hit that magic 14-day mark!

Just wanted to add another data point here - I went through this exact same issue about 6 months ago. The "information cannot be verified" error drove me crazy for almost 3 weeks! What finally worked for me was a combination of waiting the full 14 business days AND making sure I was entering my SSN without any dashes or spaces (just the 9 digits straight). Also discovered that if you have any browser extensions that auto-fill forms, they can sometimes cause issues with the EDD registration system. I had to disable my password manager extension temporarily. The ALL CAPS name trick that @Freya Christensen mentioned is definitely legit - that's what worked for several people in my situation. Hang in there everyone, it's frustrating but it does eventually work!

•@Grace Johnson Thanks for sharing that extra tip about the SSN formatting! I hadn t'thought about browser extensions potentially interfering with the form. I ve'been entering my SSN with dashes this whole time - definitely going to try it without any formatting when I attempt again. It s'crazy how many little technical quirks can mess up what should be a simple registration process. Really appreciate everyone sharing what worked for them, it makes this whole frustrating experience feel less isolating when you realize it s'a widespread system issue and not user error.

I'm dealing with this EXACT same issue right now! Filed my claim 2 weeks ago, got my EDDCAN letter last Friday, and I've been banging my head against the wall trying to register online. That "information cannot be verified" error message is the most unhelpful thing ever - like, WHAT information?? Which field is wrong?? Reading through all these responses is actually really reassuring because I was starting to think I was losing my mind. Definitely going to try the ALL CAPS name trick since that seems to be the magic solution for multiple people here. Also going to double-check that I'm entering my SSN without dashes. The 14 business day wait is frustrating when you're already stressed about money, but sounds like that's just how their system works unfortunately. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it really helps to know this isn't just me being incompetent with online forms!
