EDDCAN number issued but UI Online registration failing - need EDD agent contact

I'm at my wits end with this registration problem! Filed my unemployment claim last week and received my EDDCAN number in the mail yesterday. When I tried to register for UI Online to do my first certification, it keeps telling me "the information you entered does not match our records." I triple-checked everything - SSN, EDDCAN, DOB, and even tried different formats for my name (with/without middle initial). Nothing works! I've called the 833-978-2511 number at least 15 times in the past two days and either get disconnected immediately or the "we're experiencing high call volume" message. Never even get into a queue. My certification is due next week and I'm getting really anxious about missing it. Has anyone successfully reached an actual human at EDD recently? Is there a specific time of day or different number I should try? I really need to sort this out ASAP as my savings are getting dangerously low.

same thing happened to me last month!! so frustrating 😡 try putting your name EXACTLY how it appears on your EDDCAN letter, even if its not how you usually write it. my middle name was spelled out on the letter but i was using just the initial online

Thanks, I tried that already. I even tried with and without spaces in my last name (it's hyphenated). Still no luck getting in.

This is a common issue with new accounts. The registration system is very particular about matching exactly what's in their database. A few things to check: 1. Make sure you're using your full legal name as it appears on your Social Security card 2. Try entering your EDDCAN without the hyphens 3. Check if your mailing address has any apartment/unit numbers that need to be included 4. Try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser entirely If none of that works, you'll need to speak with an agent. Unfortunately, the main number is always overwhelmed. Your best bet is to call right when they open at 8:00 AM. Be ready to immediately redial if you get the busy signal.

Thanks for the suggestions! I tried all of those things except using a different browser. I'll give that a shot and also try calling right at 8am tomorrow. Really appreciate the help.

I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM!!!! Turns out EDD had my birthday wrong in their system by ONE DAY. Took me 3 weeks to get someone on the phone to fix it. The reg system is GARBAGE and their database is full of errors. Once you get it fixed it works fine but getting there is HELL.

This registration issue is actually quite common with new claims. The problem is that EDD's different systems don't always sync perfectly. The claims processing system that generates your EDDCAN might have slightly different information than what's in the UI Online registration database. A couple technical things to try: - Wait 48-72 hours after receiving your EDDCAN before attempting registration (sometimes the systems need time to sync) - Make sure you're on the correct registration page (https://www.edd.ca.gov/Benefit_Programs_Online.htm) - Try registering during off-peak hours (early morning or late evening) If you still can't get in after trying these, speaking with an agent is necessary. They'll need to verify your identity and manually check what's causing the mismatch. I recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they've helped me get through to EDD when I was stuck in a similar situation. They have a system that can get you past the busy signals and actually into the queue. There's a good video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

Thank you for the detailed advice! I've waited about 36 hours since getting my EDDCAN letter, so maybe I just need to give it another day. I'll also try during off-peak hours as you suggested. If that doesn't work, I'll check out that Claimyr service - at this point I'm willing to try anything to get this resolved before my certification is due.

I went through something similar in January and it turned out they had my SSN entered wrong (last 2 digits were transposed). Had to get someone on the phone to fix it. The most reliable way I found to reach them was to call the disability number (1-800-480-3287) and then ask to be transferred to UI. For some reason that line isn't as swamped.

That's not accurate advice. The disability department handles completely different claims and they'll just tell you to call the regular UI number. They don't have access to UI claim information and can't transfer you properly. I work for the state (not EDD) but know people who do, and this is a common misconception.

anyone else think its crazy we have to jump through all these hoops just to get our benefits?? i mean we PAID into this system with our taxes and then when we need help they make it impossible to even talk to someone??? my cousin in michigan said their unemployment system is way better, you can actually chat with agents online instead of calling a million times

totally agree! and it's been this way for YEARS. you'd think after the pandemic disaster they would have improved the system but nope, same old EDD mess.

UPDATE: I finally got through! Tried the Claimyr service that someone recommended here and got connected to an agent in about 35 minutes. Turns out they had my birthdate entered as month/day instead of day/month (I'm originally from Europe). The agent fixed it right away and I was able to complete my registration! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. For anyone else facing this issue - definitely worth checking if they have your basic info incorrect in their system.

Great news! Glad you got it resolved. Make sure to complete your first certification on time now that you have access.
