EDD telephone certification system not working - anyone else having problems?

Is anyone else having issues with the EDD phone certification system? I've been trying to certify for benefits over the phone since yesterday because my UI Online account is temporarily locked (waiting for password reset). I've called the certification number (1-866-333-4606) at least 12 times, but every time I enter my SSN and PIN, it just disconnects me! No error message, just drops the call. The automated system recognizes my info but then cuts out right when it should transfer me to the certification part. My certification week ends tomorrow and I'm getting desperate. Has this happened to anyone else recently? Any suggestions on how to get this to work?

OMG YES!!!!! This happened to me last weekend too!! I tried like 20 times and it kept hanging up on me. So frustrating!!! I ended up having to use the paper form and mail it in which is going to delay my payment by at least a week. EDD's systems are ALWAYS breaking down exactly when you need them most!!!

Ugh that's exactly what I'm afraid of. Did you try calling during different times of day? I'm wondering if it's a system overload issue or if the whole phone certification system is just broken right now.

The phone certification system has been having intermittent issues since they did that system update last month. Three things you can try: 1. Call very early in the morning (like 6am when the system first opens) or late at night close to midnight when there's less traffic 2. Try certifying through UI Online mobile - even if your regular account is locked, sometimes the mobile version works differently 3. If you're still locked out of UI Online, call the technical support line at 1-833-978-2511 and request a PIN reset for TeleCert instead of waiting for your online password reset Most important thing is to keep documentation that you TRIED to certify on time in case there's a delay and they question why you were late.

Thank you so much for these suggestions! I hadn't thought about trying the mobile version - will definitely try that. And I didn't realize the technical support line could reset the TeleCert PIN separately. That's super helpful!

When my phone certification wasn't working, I found out I had to update my contact info first. Something about my area code changing and their system got confused? Try checking if all your contact info is current. Sometimes it's not even the certification system but something else in your account causing the problem.

That's interesting - I did move recently but I updated my address online. Maybe something didn't transfer correctly between systems. I'll check on that angle too.

I went through exactly this last month and discovered it was because they had flagged my account for an eligibility interview (that I didn't even know about!). The automated system couldn't process my certification because of the pending interview but didn't tell me that was the reason. I tried calling the regular EDD number for three days and couldn't get through. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes. The rep explained the issue and scheduled my eligibility interview right away. Saved me weeks of stress. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Definitely worth checking if there's a flag on your account that's preventing telephone certification from working.

I've heard about Claimyr but wasn't sure if it actually worked. Might try this because I need to talk to someone about my claim status anyway.

This could be exactly what's happening! I did get a message a while back about them needing more information, but I thought I resolved it. I'll check out Claimyr - at this point I just need to talk to a real person who can tell me what's going on.

If you're unable to certify by phone or online by the deadline, make sure you document your attempts (screenshots of call logs, etc.) and you can request what's called a "Good Cause" extension. EDD actually has to give you consideration if their systems are preventing you from certifying on time. Also, if your UI Online account is locked, you should prioritize getting that fixed rather than trying to work around it with phone certification. Call the technical support line (not the regular EDD line) at 1-833-978-2511, press 1 for English, then press 2 for account help. They can usually unlock accounts much faster than waiting for the automated reset process. Don't panic if you miss the certification deadline by a day or two. As long as you certify within 14 days and have documentation of your attempts, they usually process it without interrupting your claim.

Thank you for this detailed advice! I didn't know about the "Good Cause" extension. I'm taking screenshots of all my call attempts just in case. Will try the technical support line tomorrow morning.

jUst to update everyone - I tried certifying again over the phone just now (9:45pm) and IT WORKED!!! So maybe it really is just a traffic issue. Try late night!

That's great news! I'm going to try again right now. Fingers crossed!

UPDATE: Success! I tried calling again at 10:30pm and the system worked perfectly this time. Was able to complete my certification without any issues. For anyone else experiencing this problem, try during off-hours as others suggested. Thanks everyone for your help!

Glad to hear it worked out! For future reference, it's always good to try to get your UI Online access restored anyway. The online system is generally more reliable and gives you better documentation of your certification history.

This is such a common issue unfortunately! I've been dealing with EDD systems for over a year now and the phone certification system seems to get overloaded every Sunday/Monday when most people are trying to certify. What I've learned is that it's usually not actually "broken" but just can't handle the volume during peak times. A few additional tips that have helped me: - Try calling on weekdays if your certification period allows it - way less traffic - If you get through but it hangs up during the process, sometimes your certification actually goes through anyway, so check your payment history before trying again - Keep your phone plugged in during the call - I've had it drop because my battery died mid-certification Really glad you got it sorted out! The stress of missing certification deadlines is real when you're depending on those payments.

Thanks for these additional tips! The point about checking payment history even if the call drops is really helpful - I wouldn't have thought to do that. And you're absolutely right about the stress factor. When you're depending on these payments, every glitch feels like a crisis. It's reassuring to know this is a common issue and not something wrong with my specific account.

This thread is so helpful! I've been having the exact same issue for the past two weeks. The phone system keeps disconnecting me right after I enter my info. I tried calling during different times but hadn't thought of trying super late at night. Definitely going to try the 10-11pm window tonight based on the success stories here. It's such a relief to know this is a widespread system issue and not something wrong with my account specifically. The stress of potentially missing certification deadlines when you're relying on these payments is no joke. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and solutions!

I'm so glad I found this thread! I've been dealing with the exact same problem for the past few days and was starting to panic that something was seriously wrong with my claim. Reading everyone's experiences and solutions has been incredibly helpful. The timing advice about calling late at night seems to be the key - I'm definitely going to try the 10-11pm window tonight too. It's such a relief to know this is a system overload issue and not account-specific. Thanks to everyone who shared their troubleshooting tips and success stories!

I'm currently experiencing this exact same issue! Been trying to certify by phone since this morning and getting the same problem - system accepts my SSN and PIN but then immediately disconnects. It's so frustrating when you're depending on these payments and the deadline is approaching. Based on all the helpful advice in this thread, I'm going to try calling tonight around 10-11pm when there's less system traffic. It's such a relief to see that this is a known system overload issue and not something wrong with individual accounts. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences and solutions - this community is a lifesaver when dealing with EDD's technical problems!

I'm glad you found this thread helpful too! It's amazing how many of us have been dealing with this exact same issue. The late night timing really does seem to be the magic solution - I hope it works for you tonight! One thing I learned from reading through everyone's experiences is to also keep documentation of your attempts (screenshots of call logs) just in case you need to request a "Good Cause" extension if the system continues to give you trouble. The stress of these technical issues when you're counting on these payments is so real, but it's reassuring to see how this community comes together to help each other navigate EDD's system problems. Good luck with your certification tonight!

This is such valuable information for anyone dealing with EDD phone certification issues! I've bookmarked this thread because it covers all the main troubleshooting steps. One thing I'd add based on my experience - if you're still having problems even during off-peak hours, sometimes clearing your phone's call history and restarting it before calling can help. I had a weird situation where my phone seemed to "remember" the previous failed connection attempts and would disconnect faster each time. After clearing everything and restarting, the call went through normally. Also, for anyone reading this in the future - the EDD website sometimes posts notices about known system outages or maintenance windows, so it's worth checking there first if you're having issues. Thanks again to everyone who shared their solutions - this community support makes dealing with EDD's technical problems so much more manageable!

That's a really interesting tip about clearing the call history and restarting the phone! I never would have thought that the phone might be "remembering" failed connection attempts. Technology can be so weird sometimes. I'm definitely going to try that if I run into this issue again. And great point about checking the EDD website for maintenance notices - I always forget they actually post that information there. This whole thread has been incredibly helpful for understanding that these phone system issues are usually traffic-related rather than individual account problems. It's such a relief to have a community where people share practical solutions instead of just dealing with EDD's frustrating systems alone. Thanks for adding those extra troubleshooting tips!

Just wanted to add my experience for anyone else dealing with this - I had the exact same phone certification disconnection issue last month and discovered it was actually related to my phone carrier's spam blocking feature! Apparently some carriers now automatically block certain government automated systems thinking they're robocalls. I had to call my phone company and ask them to whitelist the EDD certification number (1-866-333-4606) and after that it worked perfectly. Might be worth checking with your carrier if the late-night calling doesn't solve the problem. Also, I've found that having a backup plan helps reduce the stress - I always keep the paper certification form ready to mail just in case the phone and online systems both fail. The postal delays aren't ideal but at least you know you've met your certification requirement.
