EDD Telecert system not working - just rings forever, anyone else?

Has anyone else been having issues with the Telecert phone system this week? I've tried calling in to certify for my UI benefits three times today because UI Online keeps crashing on me. Every time I call the 1-866 number and enter my info, it says "transferring you to a representative" but then just rings forever until it hangs up! I don't understand what's happening. My certification is due tomorrow and I really need to get it done to avoid payment delays. Is the system down? Are they forcing everyone to use UI Online now? Any help would be super appreciated!

I had this exact same problem last week! The Telecert system seems to be having major issues lately. What worked for me was certifying very early in the morning (like 5 AM) when the system has less traffic. You can also try the UI Online Mobile app instead of the website - it's been more stable for me than the regular website version.

Thanks for the tip about trying early morning! I'll set an alarm for tomorrow. I didn't know there was a separate mobile app - I've just been trying to use the website on my phone. I'll download the app right now and give it a shot.

telecert is garbage now tbh.. they want everyone on the website. my neighbor works for edd and said they're slowly phasing out the phone system completely by mid-2025

This is absolutely incorrect. EDD has made no official announcement about phasing out Telecert. While they do encourage using UI Online as the primary certification method, they're required by law to maintain alternative methods for claimants without internet access. Please don't spread unverified information that could cause unnecessary anxiety for other claimants.

I HATE TELECERT!!!! Been on unemployment for 3 months and it NEVER works right!! The website keeps logging me out too! EDD IS THE WORST!!!! 😡😡😡

The Telecert system definitely has its issues, but there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try: 1. Make sure you're calling during operational hours (6am-10pm) 2. Try calling from a different phone (cell phones sometimes have connection issues with the automated system) 3. If UI Online is crashing, try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser entirely 4. Remember you have until midnight on the final certification day to submit If you're still having problems tomorrow, you might need to speak with an EDD representative to manually certify. Unfortunately, getting through to someone can be challenging.

Thank you for these tips! I've tried from both my cell phone and landline with the same result. I'll try clearing my cache on the website. If I still can't get through tomorrow I guess I'll have to try calling the regular EDD number, which I've heard is nearly impossible to get through on...

has anyone tried using Claimyr to get through to EDD when having technical issues? my brother-in-law recommended it after he had similar issues with certification. apparently it helps you get through to an actual person at EDD without the endless calling. their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km might be worth a try if you're still stuck tomorrow

I've never heard of this service before. Has anyone else used it? Seems like it might be helpful if I can't fix the problem myself.

I've used Claimyr twice when I had issues with my claim that needed immediate attention. It did work for me - got through to a rep within about 20 minutes instead of spending days trying on my own. However, for certification issues specifically, you should exhaust all the self-service options first (early morning Telecert, UI Online, mobile app) before paying for a service to reach a representative.

My certification was due last Sunday and I had the same problem with Telecert! What I discovered is that there's actually a system overload happening because they're updating something. I finally got through using UI Online at exactly 11pm when most people aren't trying to access it. The trick is to avoid peak hours completely. Also make sure your UI Online password hasn't expired - mine had and that's why it kept kicking me out at first.

That's a smart idea to try very late at night. I didn't even think about my password expiring - that might be why UI Online keeps crashing on me! I'm going to try the password reset now. Thanks!

this reminds me of when i was on unemployment in 2023 and had to deal with the same thing... except back then it was because my phone had some weird caller ID blocking feature that was messing with telecert. might check your phone settings?? also my certification used to always go smoother when i did it on sundays instead of waiting till monday, just saying

Just checking back - were you able to get certified? Did any of these suggestions work for you?

Yes! I finally got it done. You were right about trying early - I woke up at 5:30 this morning and Telecert worked right away. Also reset my UI Online password and that's working again too. Thanks to everyone for all the help!

For anyone else finding this thread with similar Telecert issues, here's a quick summary of solutions that have worked for people: 1. Try during off-peak hours (very early morning 5-7AM or late night 10PM-midnight) 2. Ensure your UI Online password is current and not expired 3. Try the UI Online Mobile app as an alternative 4. Clear your browser cache if using the website 5. Check your phone settings for any call blocking features 6. If all else fails, contact EDD directly (potentially using a service like Claimyr if you're on a deadline) Remember that you have a 14-day window to certify (your regular day plus 13 additional days) before it becomes an issue requiring reopening your claim.

I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now! Been trying to certify for the past two days and Telecert just keeps ringing and ringing before hanging up. It's so frustrating because I prefer using the phone system over the website. Reading through all these responses is really helpful - I had no idea there was a mobile app or that trying during off-peak hours could make such a difference. Going to try the early morning approach tomorrow and also check if my UI Online password needs to be reset. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and solutions!

Welcome to the community! You're definitely not alone with this issue - it seems like Telecert has been really unreliable lately. Based on what worked for others here, I'd definitely recommend trying the 5-6 AM window first since that's when the system has the least traffic. Also, don't forget to download the UI Online mobile app as a backup option - several people mentioned it's more stable than the website. Hope you get through tomorrow morning! Let us know how it goes.

As someone who's been dealing with EDD for over a year, I can confirm that system issues like this are unfortunately pretty common. What I've learned is to always have multiple backup plans ready. In addition to the great advice already given here, I'd suggest setting up both the mobile app AND keeping your UI Online login info handy so you can switch between methods if one fails. Also, if you're really stuck and facing a deadline, you can sometimes get help through your local assembly member's office - they often have direct contacts at EDD for urgent issues. It's frustrating that we have to jump through so many hoops, but having these backup options has saved me multiple times when the systems go down.

This is such valuable advice, thank you! I never thought about contacting my assembly member's office - that's a really good tip to keep in mind for future issues. You're absolutely right about having multiple backup plans ready. I'm definitely going to set up both the mobile app and make sure my UI Online credentials are current before my next certification period. It's disappointing that the system is so unreliable, but at least this community has so many helpful workarounds and solutions. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences here!

I've been having the exact same problem with Telecert for the past week! It's so relieving to see I'm not the only one dealing with this. I tried calling yesterday around 2 PM and got the same "transferring you to a representative" message followed by endless ringing. Based on all the helpful advice in this thread, I'm going to try the early morning approach (around 5 AM) and also download the UI Online mobile app as a backup. It's really frustrating that we have to work around these system issues, but I'm grateful for this community sharing all these practical solutions. Has anyone noticed if certain days of the week work better than others for Telecert, or is it pretty much random when the system decides to cooperate?

Hey Aisha! From what I've noticed reading through everyone's experiences here, it seems like the timing matters more than the specific day of the week. Early mornings (5-7 AM) seem to be the sweet spot regardless of which day you try. That said, a few people mentioned avoiding Mondays since that's when most people are trying to certify after the weekend. Sunday evenings and very early Monday mornings might be your best bet since you're either ahead of the Monday rush or catching the system when it's least busy. Definitely try that mobile app too - it sounds like it's been a lifesaver for several people here when the main website and Telecert both fail. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I'm so glad I found this thread! I've been pulling my hair out trying to certify through Telecert for the past three days with the exact same issue - it just rings forever after saying it's transferring me. I had no idea about the early morning trick or that there was a separate mobile app! This community is amazing - reading through everyone's solutions gives me hope that I can actually get this done. I'm definitely setting my alarm for 5 AM tomorrow and downloading the UI Online mobile app right now as a backup. It's crazy that we have to work around all these system issues just to get our benefits, but at least we're all helping each other figure it out. Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences and tips!
