EDD not letting me certify because of July 4th holiday - system showing wrong dates
Super annoyed right now! I went to certify for my UI benefits online like I always do and the system won't let me. So I tried calling the telecert number instead and it told me my certification is 'up to date till Tuesday July 4th' but now it's saying I'll be 'up to date Wednesday July 5th'??? I can't certify at all and I really need my payment to process on time. Is this happening because of the Independence Day holiday? Has anyone else run into this problem? Will the system fix itself tomorrow or do I need to call EDD (which is basically impossible)? Getting worried because my rent is due soon.

Yeah, this is definitely because of the July 4th holiday. EDD systems always get wonky around holidays. Their computer system is probably accounting for the federal holiday and adjusting your certification schedule. You should be able to certify on July 5th without any problems. The payment might be delayed by a day, but it will process. I wouldn't stress about it!

•Thanks for the quick response! I'm just worried because this is the first time I've seen it change dates like this. Will this affect my regular certification schedule going forward? Or will it go back to normal after this week?

This happens EVERY holiday but EDD never bothers to warn anyone!!! I've been on unemployment 3 times in the last 6 years and it's ALWAYS the same story. The system gets confused around holidays and shows wrong dates. It's not just July 4th - same thing happens with Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc. Your payment will probably be delayed 1-2 days. Make sure you certify the MINUTE the system lets you on the 5th because sometimes there's a backlog of payments after holidays.

I work with UI claims professionally, and this is absolutely related to the July 4th holiday. When a federal holiday falls during your certification period, the EDD system sometimes adjusts the certification availability dates. Here's what's happening: 1. Since July 4th is a federal holiday, EDD offices are closed and their systems don't process claims that day 2. The system has automatically pushed your certification date to July 5th 3. You WILL be able to certify on July 5th 4. Your payment will likely process 1-2 days later than usual 5. This will NOT affect your regular certification schedule after this week The system should return to your normal bi-weekly schedule after this temporary holiday adjustment. Don't worry - this won't cause any gaps in your claim or payments.

•Thank you so much for the detailed explanation! That makes me feel a lot better. So I'll just wait until tomorrow to certify. Really appreciate you breaking it down like that.

•Yes, your payment will likely be delayed by 1-2 days because of the holiday processing schedule. EDD doesn't process payments on federal holidays, so everything gets backed up slightly. Just make sure to certify as soon as the system allows you to on July 5th to minimize any additional delays.

If you're having trouble reaching EDD about this or any other issues, I highly recommend using Claimyr. I was in a similar situation during Memorial Day and couldn't get through on the regular line AT ALL. Claimyr got me connected to an EDD rep in about 25 minutes when I had been trying for days on my own. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km that shows how it works. Their service bypasses the usual wait times somehow. Totally worth it when you're dealing with time-sensitive certification issues.

•I've never heard of this service before. Does it really work? I might need this if I can't certify tomorrow.

•It actually does work. I was skeptical at first but I used it when my account got flagged for ID verification last year. Got through to EDD in like 20 minutes after trying for literally 3 days on my own. The regular EDD phone system is absolute garbage.

•Not always true. My cousin had this happen last Thanksgiving and his payment was delayed by over a week because of some glitch in the system. He had to call multiple times. Holiday processing issues usually resolve themselves but not 100% of the time.

I've been through this exact situation several times. Here's what you should do: 1. Wait until July 5th and try to certify first thing in the morning (the system updates overnight) 2. If you still can't certify, don't panic yet - try again midday 3. If by late afternoon on the 5th you still can't certify, THEN you should call EDD In my experience, about 95% of these holiday-related certification issues resolve themselves automatically. It's that other 5% where you might need to get an EDD rep to manually fix something in the system. Document everything - take screenshots of any error messages you get when trying to certify.

•This is super helpful! I'll definitely try first thing in the morning tomorrow. Taking screenshots is a good idea too - I hadn't thought of that. Thanks!

I had this happen on Presidents Day this year and actually did end up needing to talk to someone at EDD because my certification never opened up the next day like it was supposed to. Turned out there was an unrelated flag on my account that happened to coincide with the holiday. So if you still can't certify by midday tomorrow, definitely call them.

•I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier in this thread. It was the only way I could get through. Before that I tried calling right when they opened for three days straight with no luck. The regular EDD phone system is completely broken.

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know that I was able to certify this morning! The system updated overnight like you all said it would. Thanks for calming me down yesterday - this is my first time dealing with a holiday while on unemployment. My certification went through and it says my payment should process within 48 hours. Thanks again for all the help!

•Great to hear! Just as a heads up, you might experience this same issue for Labor Day in September, so now you'll know what to expect. Glad everything worked out!
