EDD website outage during certification weekend - can't certify for benefits

Anyone else having issues with the EDD website tonight? I've been trying to certify for my UI benefits for the last 3 hours and the site either won't load at all or crashes halfway through my certification. The deadline is tomorrow and I'm freaking out because I NEED this payment to make rent next week. I've tried using Chrome, Firefox, and even my phone but nothing works. Is the site down for maintenance or something? What happens if I miss the certification deadline because their system is broken??

So frustrating! Do you know if there's any grace period if we can't get through by midnight? This is my first time having this issue.

This happens EVERY certification weekend!! EDD's prehistoric system can't handle the traffic. Pro tip: try certifying at like 4am when everyone's asleep. That's what I've been doing for months now and never have problems.

Not everyone can stay up til 4am tho... some of us have kids or early work shifts at our part-time jobs 😞

Don't panic about missing the deadline. While EDD technically requires certification within 14 days of the week ending date, there's actually a grace period. You can certify late (up to 14 additional days) without losing benefits, though your payment will be delayed. The system might mark your certification as "late" but you'll still receive your full benefit amount. If the website issues persist, you can also certify by phone using EDD's automated Tele-Cert system at 1-866-333-4606. The system is available 24/7, but just like the website, it gets congested during peak certification times.

Thank you SO MUCH for this information! I didn't know about the grace period or the phone option. I'll try the phone certification if the website still doesn't work in the morning. Such a relief!

EDD is GARBAGE!!!! Their system has been broken for YEARS and they do NOTHING to fix it. I've had to call them 37 times in the past month because the website kept glitching during my identity verification and guess what - THEY NEVER ANSWER!!!! This department is a JOKE and they don't care that people are suffering!!!

I feel your frustration! I went through the same nightmare with ID.me verification last month. Have you tried Claimyr? It's a service that helps you get through to an actual EDD agent without the endless busy signals and disconnections. Saved me hours of frustration - check out their video demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km and their website at claimyr.com. I finally got my verification issues sorted after struggling for weeks.

This is a common issue during certification weekends. Here's what you need to know: 1. UI Online typically experiences slowdowns from Sunday evening through Monday morning due to high volume 2. Technical maintenance often occurs Saturday nights from 8pm-8am which can extend into Sunday if there are issues 3. If you can't certify online, you have three backup options: - Use the EDD mobile app (sometimes works when the website doesn't) - Call the Tele-Cert system at 1-866-333-4606 - Certify by mail using the DE 4581 form (though this is the slowest method) 4. You won't lose benefits if you certify a few days late, but your payment will be delayed For future reference, try certifying early Sunday morning (5-7am) or late Monday evening when traffic is lighter.

This is super helpful! I didn't know about the mobile app option. Just downloaded it and will try that first thing tomorrow. Should I call EDD if I still can't certify by Tuesday?

Yes, if you still can't certify by Tuesday, it would be worth calling. The technical issues are usually resolved within 24-48 hours. When calling, use this number: 1-800-300-5616. Best times to call are right when they open at 8am or between 1-2pm during lunch when call volume sometimes dips. Be prepared with your claim information and explain that you've been unable to certify due to technical issues with the website and mobile app.

OMG do NOT call that regular number! You'll be on hold for 5 hours and then they'll hang up on you (happened to me twice last month). The tier 1 reps can't help with technical issues anyway - you need tier 2 and good luck getting transferred to them.

Calling EDD is nearly impossible during high volume times. I've been on unemployment twice and both times had website issues. I finally found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an EDD rep without the endless redials. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Totally worth it when you're dealing with certification problems or payment delays that could impact your rent/bills.

I've heard about this but wasn't sure if it was legit. Did they actually get you through to someone who could help? My cousin tried calling EDD last week and gave up after 3 days of trying.

Yes, they did! I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for days. They connected me to an EDD rep in about 25 minutes when I'd been trying for literally days on my own. The rep I spoke with was able to fix my certification issue right away. My payment was processed the next day.

UPDATE: The site finally started working around 5am! I was able to complete my certification and it's showing as "pending payment" now. Thank you all for the advice and support! For anyone else having this issue - try early morning hours when there's less traffic. Also good to know about the grace period and phone certification options for future reference.

It took about 5 minutes once I got in. The site was still slow but at least it didn't crash. Hope yours works soon!
