EDD online certification not working - stuck with mail-in forms after phone option failed
I'm at my wit's end with this certification nightmare! For the past 3 months, I've been completely locked out of certifying online through UI Online. Every time I log in and try to certify, I get an error message saying 'This feature is not available at this time.' Initially, I switched to certifying by phone using TeleCert which worked for about 6 weeks, but now that's giving me some automated message about 'service unavailable for this account.' Now I'm forced to use those slow paper forms that take FOREVER to process (last time it took 14 days for my payment!). I've called EDD like 30+ times but never get through to a real person. Has anyone successfully fixed their online certification access after being blocked like this? Did you have to visit an office in person or send in some special form? I really need my payments to come through faster than the mail-in option allows!

I had this exact same problem last year! It turned out my account had some kind of technical flag on it. What finally worked was sending a secure message through your UI Online account (even though you can't certify, you should still be able to access messages). Go to Contact Us > Questions About Your Claim > Certifying for Benefits. Be very specific about the error messages you're getting. It took about 5 business days, but they responded and fixed whatever was blocking my online certification access. Definitely mention that both online AND phone certification are not working.

•Thank you so much! I never thought to use the message system since everything else was broken. I'll try sending a message today. Did they tell you what caused the problem in your case?

•That's interesting - my license did expire last month but I renewed it right away. I didn't think that would affect EDD stuff. I'll definitely mention that in my message to them!

The EXACT same thing is happening to me right now!!! Been dealing with this for 5 weeks and it's absolutely INFURIATING!!! I called 47 times yesterday (yes I counted) and either got the "we're too busy" message or got disconnected after waiting for 40+ minutes. The paper forms are a JOKE - my last payment took 17 days to process after mailing the form. Meanwhile my landlord doesn't care about EDD's broken system when rent is due!!!! This system is DESIGNED to make us give up on benefits we're entitled to!!

•It really does feel that way sometimes! Have you tried the secure message method that the person above suggested? I'm going to try that today and will update if it works.

Hey there, I work in IT (not for EDD) but have helped several friends with EDD account issues. There are a few technical things that could be happening: 1. Browser compatibility issues - Try using Chrome in incognito mode or Edge 2. There might be a quarterly review flag on your account 3. Your account might be flagged for identity verification renewal 4. There could be an eligibility interview pending that's not showing properly The best fix is definitely talking to a live agent who can check your account backend. Have you tried using Claimyr? It's the service that calls EDD for you and connects you when an agent is available. Saved me HOURS of frustration. Their website is claimyr.com and you can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

•Thanks for the detailed breakdown! I've tried different browsers already, but I'm guessing it's one of those other issues you mentioned. I've never heard of Claimyr before - I'll check out the video. At this point I'd try anything to avoid these paper forms!

Sometimes the cert system locks up if u answered something weird on ur last certification. did u report any earnings or say u were not available for work or something? that can trigger a interview and lock u out of online cert

•Oh wait, I did actually report some part-time hours on my last online certification before this all started. About 12 hours at my side gig. Maybe that triggered something? But shouldn't they at least notify me if there's an interview needed?

I've been handling EDD claims for family members throughout the pandemic and beyond, and this issue pops up more often than you'd think. Here's what's likely happening: Once you reported those part-time hours, the system flagged your account for an eligibility review. However, instead of properly notifying you about an upcoming interview, there's a glitch where it just locks your online certification access. Your next steps should be: 1. Send that secure message as suggested above 2. Specifically mention the part-time work you reported right before losing access 3. Request both an eligibility review AND technical account assistance 4. Include your current contact information for an interview callback In the meantime, continue using the paper forms so you don't miss certifications. The system should maintain your claim as active even with the pending review. Once they clear the flag, online access typically restores within 24-48 hours.

•Yeah, I've tried that several times. Also tried different browsers and even my phone. Same error message everywhere. But thanks for the suggestion!

Just checking back - were you able to send that secure message? Any updates?

•Yes! I sent a detailed message yesterday explaining everything including the part-time work I reported. Fingers crossed they respond soon. I also looked into that Claimyr service someone mentioned - might try that if I don't hear back by Monday. I'll definitely update when something changes!

UPDATE: It worked!!! I used Claimyr this morning and got connected to an EDD rep after only waiting about 10 minutes! The agent confirmed what some of you suggested - reporting those part-time hours triggered an eligibility review but there was a system error that didn't notify me or schedule the interview. She cleared the flag on my account and I'm now able to certify online again! She also processed my pending certifications from the paper forms I'd sent in. Thank you all for your help and suggestions!
