EDD Account Registration Error - Correct EDDCAN But Website Says Wrong Information

I'm at my wits' end trying to set up my UI Online account! I received my EDDCAN in the mail yesterday, and I've been trying to register online since then. Every time I enter my information (SSN, EDDCAN, name, DOB), the system tells me my information is wrong. I've triple-checked everything against the letter - my SSN is correct, the EDDCAN matches exactly what's on the letter, and all my personal info is right. Does the EDD website have some kind of waiting period after they mail your EDDCAN before you can register? Has anyone else run into this problem? I really need to start certifying soon and I can't even get into the system!

This happened to me too back in January. The EDD system sometimes takes 24-48 hours to fully update after they generate your EDDCAN letter. Try waiting until tomorrow and then attempt the registration again. Also make sure you're entering your name EXACTLY as it appears on the letter - even if it has a misspelling or your middle initial when you don't usually use one. The system is super picky about this.

Thank you! The letter does have my middle initial, which I don't normally use online. I'll try again with that exact format tomorrow. I didn't realize there was a delay between when they mail it and when it's active in the system.

Yes, I'm definitely on ui.edd.ca.gov - I bookmarked it after researching the proper site. Good point though, I've heard about those scam sites too.

The most common reason for this error is timing. When EDD mails your EDDCAN letter, their system hasn't always fully processed your claim in their database. This disconnect can last 2-3 business days. Other possible issues: 1. Check for spaces or dashes in your EDDCAN when entering it 2. Try both uppercase and lowercase for your name 3. If your name has special characters (hyphens, apostrophes), try with AND without them 4. Make sure your date format is MM/DD/YYYY If you still have trouble after 72 hours, you'll need to call EDD directly to have them verify your information in the system.

Wow, thank you for the detailed response! I didn't try variations with my name formatting. My last name has an apostrophe, so I'll definitely try without it. I'll wait the 72 hours too before panicking.

My brother had this exact problem and it turned out the birthdate on file with EDD was wrong by one day. Check your letter carefully - sometimes they have different info than what you think is correct. He had to call to fix it.

I just double-checked and you're right! The letter has my birth year wrong - it's off by 1 year. How did I miss that? Now I'm worried about how to fix this...

The EDD system is GARBAGE!!! I had the same issue and wasted a WEEK trying different combinations. Turned out they had my SSN wrong by ONE digit. By the time I finally got it fixed, I missed certifying and had to backdate everything. Their whole system is designed to make it IMPOSSIBLE to get benefits we PAID FOR with our taxes!!!

I know right? Their system seems designed to be frustrating. But once you get through the initial setup it does get better. Hang in there everyone!

If you need to get through to EDD to fix the information issue, try using Claimyr. I was in this exact situation and spent days trying to call with no success. Claimyr got me connected to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes who fixed my account info immediately. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Their website is claimyr.com - definitely worth it when you're stuck like this.

Thanks for the recommendation. If I can't get this resolved in the next day or two, I'll definitely check out Claimyr. At this point I just need to talk to an actual person who can look at my file.

Nah, it's just a call-back service. They don't need your SSN or anything like that. They just help you get through the phone system so you're not redialing all day.

when i file back in 2022 i had same problem butn it was because i was trying too soon. they mail the letter before they finish putting everything in computer. wait 3-4 days after you get letter, then try again. also the website goes down at night for updates so try during daytime

I think you might be right about the timing issue, but I also found an error on my letter (wrong birth year). So it might be both problems. Thank you!

It sounds like you've discovered the issue is a wrong birth year on your letter. This actually happens more often than you'd think. You'll need to contact EDD to correct this. Once they update it, you should be able to register. In the meantime, you could try entering the birth year as shown on your letter (even though it's wrong) just to see if that gets you into the system. Sometimes you can update personal information once you're logged in.

I tried using the incorrect year as shown on the letter, but it still gave me the same error. I think I'll have to call them to fix this. I've been trying the regular EDD number but can't get through. Does anyone know if there's a specific department I should try to reach for account registration issues?

For account registration issues, you want to call the EDD technical support line at 1-833-978-2511. They can handle UI Online access issues specifically. Regular claim questions go to a different department. Make sure to have your EDDCAN, SSN, and the letter with the incorrect information ready when you call. They'll likely ask for verification details before they can make any changes to your account information.

Thank you so much! I'll try that specific number tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed I can get this resolved quickly!

I just wanted to update everyone - I was able to get through to EDD this morning using that technical support number. They confirmed there was a data entry error with my birth year. The rep corrected it in their system and had me try registering while I was still on the phone with her. It worked! I'm finally in my UI Online account and can see all my claim info. Thank you all for your help with this!

Great news! Glad you got it resolved. Make sure you certify for any weeks you're eligible for right away so you don't miss any payments.

Thanks for coming back to update! So many people post problems and never tell us what fixed it. This will help others with the same issue.
