EDD CalJOBS registration letter - password won't work! Alternative options?
I just got the EDD letter saying I need to register with CalJOBS as part of my work search requirements. The letter included a username and temporary password they supposedly created for me, but when I try to log in, it keeps saying 'invalid credentials'. I've tried 5+ times, triple-checking I'm typing everything EXACTLY as shown in the letter. Has anyone else run into this? If I just give up and create a brand new CalJOBS account myself, will EDD somehow know I've registered? Will my claim get flagged because I didn't use their pre-made account? I'm worried about getting my benefits delayed over this stupid technical issue. My next certification is due in 3 days!

This happens a lot actually! I had the same issue last month. The pre-generated passwords often expire after 7 days from when they create the account (not from when you receive the letter). If it's been more than a week since the letter was dated, that's probably why. You have two options: 1. Call the CalJOBS technical support at 1-800-758-0398 and explain the situation. They can reset your password. 2. Create a new account with your own email/password. Either way works fine for EDD purposes - they just need you registered in the system. The important thing is making sure you're logging your work search activities somewhere (either CalJOBS or your own records).

•Thank you!! My letter is dated 10 days ago, so that explains it. Did you create your own account? I'm just paranoid that somehow EDD will see I didn't use their account and flag my claim.

•Same! The whole system is garbage. I swear EDD and CalJOBS don't even talk to each other half the time. I've been using my own account for months and certifying without issues.

I work at a career center and help people with CalJOBS registrations every day. Here's what's happening: EDD automatically creates a shell account for you in CalJOBS when they approve your claim. BUT there's often a delay in that information being properly processed in the CalJOBS system. Sometimes the credentials in your letter never actually get activated in their system. It's perfectly fine to create your own account. Just make sure you use the same personal information (SSN, birthdate, etc.) that's on your claim. The systems will eventually match your records based on your personal identifiers, not the username. What EDD cares about is that you're registered and using the system to search for work - not which specific account you use to do it.

•This is really helpful! I'll create my own account today. Do I need to call EDD to let them know about the issue with their pre-made account, or can I just move forward with my own?

I had this EXACT problem last week!! The CalJOBS password they gave me didn't work either. I tried resetting it through their forgot password feature but it said my SSN and username combo wasn't recognized!?!? So frustrating!! I ended up just creating a new account and it's been fine. Just make sure you log your work search activities in there regularly. I think that's what EDD actually checks - not whether you used their specific login.

•This is the correct answer. EDD and CalJOBS do communicate, but they match your records using your SSN and personal information, not the login credentials. As long as you're registered and using the system, you'll be compliant with work search requirements.

If you're struggling to connect with EDD to resolve these kinds of technical issues, I highly recommend trying Claimyr. I was dealing with a similar situation where I needed to speak with someone about a CalJOBS registration problem, and I couldn't get through on the regular phone lines for days. Claimyr got me connected to an EDD representative in less than 30 minutes. They basically call EDD for you and when they get through, they connect you. Saved me so much time and frustration. You can check them out at claimyr.com - they even have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

•Thanks for the tip! I'll keep Claimyr in mind if I need to call. For now, I think I'll try creating my own CalJOBS account based on everyone's advice and see if that works first.

btw dont forget u can also just keep ur own records of job search stuff instead of using caljobs. thats what my friend does. just writes down where he applied n stuff

•This is technically correct, but I always recommend using CalJOBS if possible. If you ever get selected for a work search audit (which EDD does randomly), having everything already documented in their system makes the process much smoother. If you keep your own records, you'll need to provide all that documentation separately.

WAIT the letter is supposed to come with login info??? I got my CalJOBS letter last month and it just told me to register but didn't include any account information at all. Should I be worried? Now I'm confused if I did it wrong...

•You're fine! EDD has been inconsistent with this. Some people get pre-generated credentials, others just get instructions to create an account. As long as you're registered in CalJOBS now and are recording your work search activities, you're meeting the requirements.

To directly answer your question: No, EDD will not penalize you for creating your own CalJOBS account instead of using their pre-generated one. The important requirement is that you're registered in the system and documenting your work search activities. If you're concerned, you can always mention this during your next certification by adding a note explaining that you had to create a new account due to technical issues with the pre-generated credentials. But honestly, it's not necessary - thousands of claimants create their own accounts. Just make sure you're using the same information (name, SSN, contact details) that's on your EDD claim, and the systems will eventually reconcile your records.

I went through this exact same nightmare! The password they sent me was completely useless - kept getting "invalid credentials" no matter what I tried. Turns out their system is just broken half the time. I ended up creating my own CalJOBS account and it's been working perfectly for 2 months now. EDD has never said anything about it during my certifications. The key thing is just making sure you're logging your job searches consistently - they don't actually care which login you use to do it. Pro tip: when you create your own account, use the exact same spelling of your name and info that's on your EDD paperwork. That way their systems can link everything up properly. And definitely start logging activities ASAP since your cert is due soon!

•This is so reassuring to hear! I was really stressing about whether creating my own account would mess up my claim somehow. Just finished setting up my new CalJOBS account and I'm already feeling way less anxious about the whole situation. Going to start documenting my job searches right now so I'm ready for certification. Thanks for sharing your experience - it really helps to know others have been through this exact same issue!

I had this EXACT same issue a few weeks ago! The pre-generated password in my EDD letter didn't work either - kept getting "invalid credentials" every time I tried to log in. After wasting hours trying to troubleshoot it, I just gave up and created my own CalJOBS account. Honestly, it was the best decision I made. My own account works perfectly, and I've been certifying without any problems for over a month now. EDD has never questioned it or flagged my claim. Their systems are designed to match your records based on your SSN and personal info, not the specific login credentials you use. My advice: Don't stress about it! Just create your own account using the same personal information that's on your EDD claim (exact name spelling, SSN, etc.) and start logging your job searches immediately. Since your certification is due in 3 days, you'll want to get some work search activities documented ASAP. The CalJOBS system is actually pretty user-friendly once you get your own working account set up. You're definitely not going to get penalized for this - it's a super common technical issue that tons of people deal with. Focus on getting compliant with the work search requirements rather than worrying about which account you use to do it!

•Thank you so much for this detailed response! It's such a relief to hear from someone who went through the exact same thing recently. I was really worried that creating my own account would somehow mess up my benefits or cause issues with EDD. Your advice about using the exact same personal info from my EDD claim makes total sense - I'll make sure to match everything exactly when I set up my account today. And you're absolutely right about focusing on getting compliant with work search requirements rather than stressing about the technical issues. I'm going to create my account right now and start logging some job applications before my certification deadline. Thanks again for sharing your experience - it really helps to know this is a common problem and not something I did wrong!

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! Got my CalJOBS letter yesterday and the password they provided isn't working at all. I've tried it multiple times and keep getting the "invalid credentials" error. It's so frustrating because my certification is coming up soon too. Reading through all these responses is really reassuring though - sounds like creating your own account is totally fine and won't cause any problems with EDD. I was worried they'd somehow flag my claim if I didn't use their pre-generated account, but it seems like that's not the case at all. Going to create my own CalJOBS account today using the same personal info from my EDD paperwork and start logging job searches right away. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it's really helpful to know this is such a common problem and there's an easy solution!

•I'm so glad this thread exists! I literally just went through this same nightmare last week. The pre-generated password from EDD didn't work for me either, and I was panicking thinking I'd somehow mess up my benefits if I created my own account. Turns out it's super common and totally fine to just make your own CalJOBS account. I've been using mine for a week now with zero issues. Just make sure you use the exact same name spelling and info that's on your EDD paperwork - that's how their systems match everything up. Since your cert is coming up soon, definitely prioritize getting that account set up today and start logging some job search activities ASAP. The actual work search compliance is what matters, not which login credentials you use to track it. You've got this!

This is such a common issue! I went through the exact same thing about 6 months ago. The pre-generated password in my EDD letter was completely useless - tried it dozens of times and it never worked. I ended up calling the CalJOBS tech support line (1-800-758-0398) first, but honestly their hold times were terrible and when I finally got through, they said the account had never been properly activated in their system anyway. So I just created my own account instead. Been using my self-created CalJOBS account for months now with absolutely no issues from EDD. They don't care which account you use - they just need to see that you're registered and actively logging work search activities. The systems match based on your SSN and personal info, not your login credentials. Since your certification is due in 3 days, I'd skip the hassle of trying to get their broken pre-generated account working and just create your own today. Use the exact same name spelling and info from your EDD paperwork, then immediately start logging some job applications so you have activities to report when you certify. Don't stress about it - thousands of us have had to do this!

•You're absolutely doing the right thing by not waiting until the last minute! I made that mistake when I first dealt with this issue and ended up scrambling to get work search activities logged right before my certification deadline. Having a full week to document job applications will give you plenty of buffer time and peace of mind. The CalJOBS interface is actually pretty straightforward once you get your own working account set up - much easier than dealing with their broken pre-generated credentials. Good luck with your account setup!
