EDD CalJOBS registration letter - password won't work! Alternative options?
I just got the EDD letter saying I need to register with CalJOBS as part of my work search requirements. The letter included a username and temporary password they supposedly created for me, but when I try to log in, it keeps saying 'invalid credentials'. I've tried 5+ times, triple-checking I'm typing everything EXACTLY as shown in the letter. Has anyone else run into this? If I just give up and create a brand new CalJOBS account myself, will EDD somehow know I've registered? Will my claim get flagged because I didn't use their pre-made account? I'm worried about getting my benefits delayed over this stupid technical issue. My next certification is due in 3 days!

This happens a lot actually! I had the same issue last month. The pre-generated passwords often expire after 7 days from when they create the account (not from when you receive the letter). If it's been more than a week since the letter was dated, that's probably why. You have two options: 1. Call the CalJOBS technical support at 1-800-758-0398 and explain the situation. They can reset your password. 2. Create a new account with your own email/password. Either way works fine for EDD purposes - they just need you registered in the system. The important thing is making sure you're logging your work search activities somewhere (either CalJOBS or your own records).

•Thank you!! My letter is dated 10 days ago, so that explains it. Did you create your own account? I'm just paranoid that somehow EDD will see I didn't use their account and flag my claim.

•Same! The whole system is garbage. I swear EDD and CalJOBS don't even talk to each other half the time. I've been using my own account for months and certifying without issues.

I work at a career center and help people with CalJOBS registrations every day. Here's what's happening: EDD automatically creates a shell account for you in CalJOBS when they approve your claim. BUT there's often a delay in that information being properly processed in the CalJOBS system. Sometimes the credentials in your letter never actually get activated in their system. It's perfectly fine to create your own account. Just make sure you use the same personal information (SSN, birthdate, etc.) that's on your claim. The systems will eventually match your records based on your personal identifiers, not the username. What EDD cares about is that you're registered and using the system to search for work - not which specific account you use to do it.

•This is really helpful! I'll create my own account today. Do I need to call EDD to let them know about the issue with their pre-made account, or can I just move forward with my own?

I had this EXACT problem last week!! The CalJOBS password they gave me didn't work either. I tried resetting it through their forgot password feature but it said my SSN and username combo wasn't recognized!?!? So frustrating!! I ended up just creating a new account and it's been fine. Just make sure you log your work search activities in there regularly. I think that's what EDD actually checks - not whether you used their specific login.

•This is the correct answer. EDD and CalJOBS do communicate, but they match your records using your SSN and personal information, not the login credentials. As long as you're registered and using the system, you'll be compliant with work search requirements.

If you're struggling to connect with EDD to resolve these kinds of technical issues, I highly recommend trying Claimyr. I was dealing with a similar situation where I needed to speak with someone about a CalJOBS registration problem, and I couldn't get through on the regular phone lines for days. Claimyr got me connected to an EDD representative in less than 30 minutes. They basically call EDD for you and when they get through, they connect you. Saved me so much time and frustration. You can check them out at claimyr.com - they even have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

•Thanks for the tip! I'll keep Claimyr in mind if I need to call. For now, I think I'll try creating my own CalJOBS account based on everyone's advice and see if that works first.

•This is technically correct, but I always recommend using CalJOBS if possible. If you ever get selected for a work search audit (which EDD does randomly), having everything already documented in their system makes the process much smoother. If you keep your own records, you'll need to provide all that documentation separately.

WAIT the letter is supposed to come with login info??? I got my CalJOBS letter last month and it just told me to register but didn't include any account information at all. Should I be worried? Now I'm confused if I did it wrong...

•You're fine! EDD has been inconsistent with this. Some people get pre-generated credentials, others just get instructions to create an account. As long as you're registered in CalJOBS now and are recording your work search activities, you're meeting the requirements.

To directly answer your question: No, EDD will not penalize you for creating your own CalJOBS account instead of using their pre-generated one. The important requirement is that you're registered in the system and documenting your work search activities. If you're concerned, you can always mention this during your next certification by adding a note explaining that you had to create a new account due to technical issues with the pre-generated credentials. But honestly, it's not necessary - thousands of claimants create their own accounts. Just make sure you're using the same information (name, SSN, contact details) that's on your EDD claim, and the systems will eventually reconcile your records.

•Thanks so much! I just created my own account and was able to log in successfully. I'll start recording my job searches right away before my certification is due.
