EDD CA: System won't let me file new unemployment claim - Error message, need advice

I'm trying to file a new unemployment claim but the system won't let me. It just says I can't file. Has anyone else run into this problem? I'm not sure what to do next. Any advice would be appreciated.

I found a way to solve unemployment claim filing issues, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P8x7nWB64c

Have you checked your spam folder? Sometimes important emails from EDD end up there

0 coins

Good catch! Email filters can be overzealous sometimes.

0 coins

Have you tried calling the unemployment office? Sometimes the online system glitches and you need to speak with a real person to sort it out.

0 coins

The wait times can be brutal, though. It's worth a try but be prepared to wait for hours.

0 coins

Plot twist: the system is working perfectly, it just hates you personally 👀

0 coins

Lol sometimes it feels that way

0 coins

EDD be like "you can't file a claim because reasons" 🤡

Humor aside, it's important to stay positive and persistent when dealing with such issues.

0 coins

Ugh, I had the same issue last month. It's so frustrating! The system is totally broken 🤬

0 coins

Did you ever get it resolved? I'm in the same boat and don't know what to do

0 coins

Yeah, eventually. I had to call like 50 times before I got through tho. It's a nightmare

0 coins

Calling seems to be the only option for many. Maybe they need more staff to handle the calls.

Ive been dealing with edd for 2 years now and its always something. hang in there OP, youll get it sorted eventually

0 coins

2 years? Wow, that's rough. I hope I can get this sorted quicker than that

0 coins

Same here. It's like a part-time job just dealing with them 😫

0 coins

Persistence really is key with these things. Hang in there!

Anyone else miss the good old days when you could just walk into an office and talk to a real person? 👴

0 coins

Ok boomer 😂

0 coins

For real tho, it would be so much easier

With current technology, it feels like personal interaction is becoming a 'premium service'.

I found a way to get someone on the phone fast. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

Sounds sketchy. Is this legit?

0 coins

$20 just to talk to someone? The system is so broken 😡

0 coins

I know it sounds weird, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration

0 coins

I tried it once and it was efficient, but I do think $20 is steep. However, it might be worth it if you're desperate.

Maybe try filing at a different time of day? Sometimes the system gets overloaded during peak hours

0 coins

That's true! Off-peak times can sometimes be much better for system responsiveness.

0 coins

Have you checked if there's any maintenance scheduled for the website? Sometimes they do updates and it messes everything up

0 coins

Good point. System updates can cause functionality issues temporarily.

Here's what you need to do: 1. First, double-check that you're eligible to file a new claim. If you've recently had a claim, you might need to reopen it instead of filing a new one. 2. If you're sure you're eligible, try clearing your browser cache and cookies, then try again. Sometimes it's just a technical glitch. 3. If that doesn't work, you'll need to call the EDD office. Be prepared for a long wait. Have all your information ready: - Social Security Number - Driver's License or ID - Employment history for the last 18 months - Reason for unemployment 4. When you get through, explain the error message you're seeing. Ask them to check your account for any flags or issues. 5. If they can't resolve it over the phone, ask if you can file a claim by mail or fax. Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up! Good luck!

Thanks for the detailed response! I'll give these a try

0 coins

This is great advice. I wish I had this info when I was struggling with my claim last year

0 coins

Lol good luck getting through on the phone. I've been trying for weeks 🙄

0 coins

Sometimes speaking to a representative in person at a local office, if open, can also help.

0 coins

Have you tried filing from a different device? Sometimes my laptop won't work but my phone does

0 coins

Ev Luca

Switching devices sometimes bypasses technical issues. Worth a shot!

0 coins

This happened to me too! Turns out I had an old claim that wasn't closed properly. Had to call and get them to fix it before I could file a new one

0 coins

Oh that's interesting. I'll ask about that when I call. Thanks!

0 coins

The EDD and their glitches smh. Always something with them

0 coins

It might be worth checking online or in your account for any messages or notifications about your old claim.

0 coins

I heard theres a secret menu option if you press 0#0# when you call. anyone tried this?

0 coins

Sounds like an urban legend lol

0 coins

I tried it once. Didn't work, but maybe I did it wrong? 🤷‍♂️

0 coins

Sometimes these 'hacks' are just rumors, but experimenting might not hurt if you're desperate.

0 coins

Pro tip: if you're gonna call, do it first thing in the morning when they open. Better chance of getting through

0 coins

Agreed! Early mornings tend to have shorter wait times.

0 coins

have you tried turning it off and on again? 🤣

0 coins

Lol if only it were that simple!

0 coins

Classic IT solution 😂

0 coins

Sometimes simply restarting the device or switching browsers might actually solve the problem.

I had a similar issue a few months ago! The error message was super vague and unhelpful. What worked for me was logging out completely, clearing my browser data (cookies, cache, etc.), and then trying to log back in after waiting about 30 minutes. Sometimes their system gets confused if you have multiple sessions or cached data. Also double-check that you don't have any browser extensions that might be interfering with the site. Hope this helps!

0 coins

This is really helpful advice! I've been struggling with similar browser issues on other sites. The 30-minute waiting period is something I wouldn't have thought of - does the system really need that much time to reset?

0 coins

I've been dealing with EDD issues for months and here's what I've learned: First, make sure you're using the right browser - Chrome or Firefox work best. Clear all your cookies and cache, then try accessing the site in incognito/private mode. If you're still getting the error, it might be because you have an existing claim that needs to be closed or there's a flag on your account. The system is notorious for giving vague error messages when there are backend issues. Document everything - take screenshots of the error messages and keep notes of when you tried to file. This will help when you eventually get through to someone on the phone. Also, try filing during off-peak hours like early morning or late evening when the servers aren't overloaded. Good luck, and don't give up! The system is frustrating but you'll get through it eventually.

This is exactly the kind of comprehensive advice I was hoping to find! I especially appreciate the tip about documenting everything with screenshots - I wish I had started doing that from the beginning. Quick question: when you mention "off-peak hours," what times specifically worked best for you? I've been trying during lunch breaks but maybe that's still too busy.
