EDD website keeps saying 'closed' when trying to file new unemployment claim - help!
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble filing a new unemployment claim. The system keeps saying it's closed when I try to enroll. Has anyone else run into this issue? Any tips on how to get it working?

Ugh, I had the same problem last week. So frustrating! Have you tried clearing your browser cache? That worked for me.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I'll give that a try. How do I clear the cache again?

•No prob! It's different for each browser. In Chrome, go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Clear browsing data. Select 'Cached images and files' and hit 'Clear data'. For Firefox, it's Options > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data, then click 'Clear Data'. Hope this helps!

The unemployment system is such a joke. I've been trying to file for weeks and keep getting error messages. Anyone else feel like they're just throwing darts at a board blindfolded? 🎯🤦♂️

•@profile 4 Easy for you to say! Some of us have been trying for WEEKS. Not everyone has the luxury of time when bills are piling up. 😤

Pro tip: Try filing late at night or early in the morning. The system tends to be less overloaded then. Also, make sure you're using a supported browser - some older versions can cause issues.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/0UZGuPWGErg

•Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

•I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. Used it twice now. Saved me hours of frustration.

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is broken if we have to pay extra just to get basic service. 🤬

•I hear ya, but for me, time is money. I'd rather pay $20 than waste hours on hold. To each their own tho!

Have you checked if there's scheduled maintenance? Sometimes they close the system for updates. Check their Twitter or Facebook for announcements.

•Good idea, I didn't even think of that. I'll take a look at their social media. Thanks!

Okay, let me drop some knowledge here. I've been dealing with EDD for years (unfortunately), so here's a comprehensive guide to troubleshoot your issue: 1. Clear your browser cache and cookies. This solves 90% of issues. 2. Try a different browser. Sometimes Chrome works when Firefox doesn't, or vice versa. 3. Use incognito/private mode. This can bypass some weird caching issues. 4. Check your internet connection. A unstable connection can cause timeouts. 5. Disable any ad-blockers or VPNs temporarily. 6. Try a different device if possible (phone vs. computer). 7. If all else fails, call them directly. Yes, it's a pain, but sometimes it's necessary. Remember, persistence is key. The system is overloaded, so keep trying at different times. Early morning (like 5-6 AM) or late night (after 10 PM) often works best. If you're still stuck, consider reaching out to your local assemblymember or state senator. They often have dedicated staff to help with EDD issues. Good luck, and don't give up! 💪

•Great advice! I'd add one more thing: document EVERYTHING. Keep a log of when you tried to file, what errors you got, who you talked to on the phone, etc. It can be super helpful if you need to escalate your case.

•Preach! 🙌 It's like they're trying to discourage us from claiming. Stay strong, know your rights!
