Certified for EDD benefits but payment not received - what's going on?

Hey everyone, I'm really frustrated right now. I certified for my unemployment benefits like I always do, but I still haven't received my money. It's been a few days now and I'm starting to worry. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on what might be causing the delay or what I should do next?

Ugh, I feel you. The same thing happened to me last month. It's so stressful when you're counting on that money and it doesn't show up when it should. Have you checked your EDD account online to see if there's any message or hold on your claim?

Yeah, I checked my account but there's nothing there explaining the delay. It just shows as 'pending' 😫

Oof, that's rough. Pending usually means they're reviewing something. Might be worth giving them a call if it doesn't change in a day or two.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it another day and then try calling. Fingers crossed 🤞

This happens way too often. The EDD system is such a mess 🤦‍♂️ I've had payments delayed for weeks before. Sometimes it's a glitch, sometimes they need more info. Best bet is to call them, but good luck getting through lol

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/0UZGuPWGErg

Wow, that sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? How long did you have to wait?

It really does work! I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate. I only waited about 10 minutes after they connected me. Saved me hours of frustration.

Idk man, paying to talk to EDD seems sketchy. Shouldn't this be a free service?

I get where you're coming from, but for me, it was worth it. Time is money, and I was wasting whole days trying to get through. $20 to solve my problem quickly was a no-brainer.

Have you double-checked that you answered all the certification questions correctly? Sometimes a small mistake can hold up the whole process. Also, make sure your claim balance isn't at zero.

I'm pretty sure I did everything right, but I'll go back and review my answers. Thanks for the suggestion!

This is why I always keep some emergency savings. You never know when EDD is gonna drop the ball 🙄 Hope you get it sorted soon, OP!

Here's what I've learned from dealing with EDD for the past year: 1. Always certify as early as possible on your certification day. 2. Double-check all your answers before submitting. 3. If payment doesn't come within 48 hours, start calling. 4. Use the online messaging system to create a paper trail. 5. If you can't get through on the phone, try contacting your local assembly member's office. They can sometimes expedite things. 6. Keep detailed records of all your interactions with EDD. 7. Check for any new messages or inbox items on your EDD portal daily. 8. Make sure your contact info and mailing address are up to date. 9. If you worked at all during your certification period, make sure you reported it accurately. 10. Sometimes payments get delayed if there's a holiday or system maintenance. Hang in there, OP. The system sucks, but persistence usually pays off eventually.

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely follow these steps. Really appreciate you taking the time to write all this out 🙏

Preach! 🙌 It's like they make it difficult on purpose or something.

For real. We're already stressed about being unemployed, and then we gotta deal with this nonsense. It's not right.

Hey OP, any updates? Did your payment come through yet?

Not yet 😕 I'm gonna try calling tomorrow if it doesn't change. Thanks for checking in!

I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now! Certified on Sunday and still nothing. It's so nerve-wracking when bills are due and you're just sitting there waiting. I've been checking my account obsessively but it just keeps saying "pending." Really hoping it's just a system delay and not something more serious. Keep us posted on what happens when you call - I might need to do the same thing!

Same boat here! I certified on Monday and still waiting. The pending status is driving me crazy - I keep refreshing the page hoping something will change. At least we're not alone in this mess. Definitely let us know how the phone call goes if you end up calling!

I'm going through the same thing right now! Certified on Tuesday and my payment is still showing as pending. It's so frustrating because this is the second time this has happened to me in the past few months. Last time it took almost a week to resolve and I never got a clear explanation of what caused the delay. I'm definitely going to try calling tomorrow if nothing changes. Has anyone noticed if these delays happen more often around certain times of the month or after holidays? Just trying to figure out if there's a pattern here.

I've noticed the same pattern! It seems like delays happen more frequently right after holidays or during the first week of the month. I think it might be related to system maintenance or higher volumes of certifications being processed. Last time I had a delay, it was right after New Year's and took 5 days to clear up. The EDD rep I finally got through to said it was just a "processing backlog" but couldn't give me specifics. Really hoping yours clears up soon - the uncertainty is the worst part!
