Need to change EDD payment method from debit to check by EOD - help!

Hey everyone, I need to change my payment method for my unemployment benefits by the end of today. I want to switch from debit card to check so I can get my payments faster. Anyone know how to do this quickly? I'm worried about missing the deadline.

I had to do this last month. It's actually pretty simple! Just log into your account on the unemployment website and go to the payment settings. There should be an option to change your payment method. Select 'check' instead of debit card, and you're good to go. Make sure to double-check all your mailing info is correct!

Thanks so much! I'll try that right now. Do you remember how long it took for the change to take effect?

For me, it was pretty quick. The change showed up in my account immediately, but it took about a week for my first check to arrive. Just keep that in mind for your budgeting!

Quick heads up - sometimes the website can be glitchy. If you run into any issues, try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser. That usually does the trick!

Ugh, good luck dealing with the unemployment office. I've been trying to get through to them for weeks about a similar issue. The phone lines are always busy and the website is a nightmare 🤮

I feel you. It's like trying to nail jello to a wall sometimes. Have you tried calling right when they open? That worked for me once.

Yeah, I've tried everything. Early morning, late afternoon, even tried during lunch hour. No luck. It's so frustrating!

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Wow, that sounds too good to be true. Is it legit? Has anyone else tried this?

Idk man, paying to get through to a government office seems sketchy. Shouldn't this be free?

I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. I was desperate and gave it a shot. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

Just tried it and it actually worked! Got through in about 45 minutes. Thanks for the tip! 💯

Pro tip: If you're switching to checks, make sure your bank allows mobile check deposit. It'll save you a trip to the bank every time you get a payment. Most banks have this feature in their app now.

Am I the only one who thinks its ridiculous that we have to jump through all these hoops just to get our benefits? The whole system needs an overhaul smh

Preach! 🙌 It's like they're stuck in the stone age. Other countries have this stuff figured out, why can't we?

For real. I work in tech and I cringe every time I have to use a government website. It's like stepping back in time to 1995.

Just a heads up, changing your payment method might cause a slight delay in your next payment. It happened to me when I switched from check to direct deposit. Make sure you have enough to cover your expenses for a week or two just in case!

Oh no, I didn't even think about that. Thanks for the warning! Guess I'll have to tighten the belt for a bit.

Has anyone else noticed that the checks sometimes arrive later than the debit card payments? I switched a few months ago and it seems less consistent now.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. I think it depends on the mail service in your area. Mine are usually pretty on time, but my friend in the next town over says hers are always a few days late.

LPT: Take screenshots of everything you do on the unemployment website. It's saved my butt more than once when they claimed I didn't do something I know I did.

This is solid advice. I learned it the hard way after a mix-up that took weeks to resolve. Document EVERYTHING.

Hey Malik! I just went through this same process last week. One thing to keep in mind - if you're switching because you think checks are faster, they're actually usually slower than the debit card. The debit card loads pretty much instantly once your payment is processed, but checks can take 3-5 business days to arrive by mail, plus processing time. Just want to make sure you're not expecting it to speed things up! But if you have other reasons for wanting checks (like avoiding debit card fees), then definitely go for it. The process Isabella described is spot on.
