How to update EDD direct deposit info ASAP? Need help!
Hey everyone, I need to update my direct deposit info with EDD. Has anyone done this recently? What's the best way to get it done quickly? I'm worried about missing payments while this gets sorted out.

I just went through this last month. It's a pain, but here's what worked for me: 1. Call the EDD number as soon as they open (8 AM I think?) 2. When you get the automated system, press 1 for English, then 1 for claim questions, then 2 for payment info 3. You'll probably have to wait on hold for a while, but stay patient 4. When you get a rep, just tell them you need to update your direct deposit info 5. They'll ask for your new account and routing numbers, so have those ready Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

•This is solid advice. I'd add that you should double-check your numbers before giving them to the rep. One wrong digit and you're in for a world of hurt 😅

•@profile 3 Yeah, it can be tough. Try calling right at 8 AM on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Those days seem to have shorter wait times in my experience.

I found a way to get someone on the phone fast. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•I get the skepticism, but it honestly saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny IMO.

•How long did it take for them to get through?

•@profile 7 It took about 2 hours, but I didn't have to sit by the phone the whole time. They just called me when they got an agent.

Has anyone tried updating this info online? I thought I saw an option for it in my account settings, but now I can't find it.

•I tried that too! Turns out it's only for viewing your current info, not changing it. Classic EDD move 🤦♂️

Quick tip: When you do get through, ask them to confirm your new info by reading it back to you. I didn't do this and they somehow got my routing number wrong. Took another week to fix 😫

Anyone know if changing banks will delay payments? I'm switching from Wells Fargo to a local credit union.

•It shouldn't if you time it right. Try to make the change right after a payment goes through. That way you have a full payment cycle for the change to process.

•Smart move ditching Wells Fargo! 👏 Local credit unions FTW!

pro tip: if u cant get thru on the main line, try calling one of the foreign language lines and then ask to be transfered to an english speaker. sometimes works like a charm 😉

Just went through this process myself last week! Here's what I learned: Make sure you have a voided check or official bank letter with your account details - they're pretty strict about verification. Also, don't close your old account until you see at least one successful deposit to the new one. EDD told me it can take 1-2 payment cycles to fully process, so patience is key. The phone wait was brutal (about 3 hours) but the actual update took less than 5 minutes once I got through. Hang in there!

Thanks for starting this thread @Victoria Scott! I actually just updated mine last month and wanted to share what worked for me. I called the 1-800-300-5616 number right at 8 AM on a Wednesday and got through in about 45 minutes (which felt like a miracle tbh). The rep was super helpful and walked me through everything step by step. One thing I wish I'd known beforehand - they need your new account to have been open for at least 30 days before they can update it, so if you just opened a new account, you might need to wait. Also, they'll send a test deposit of $0.01 to verify the account before switching over your regular payments. Hope this helps and good luck getting through! 🤞

•@Elijah O'Reilly Thanks for the detailed info! The 30-day account requirement is something I hadn't heard before - that's really good to know. Did they tell you about the test deposit upfront, or was that a surprise? I'm planning to call tomorrow morning and want to be prepared for everything they might throw at me 😅

Hey @Victoria Scott! I just went through this nightmare last month and finally got it sorted out. Here's my experience: I tried calling for DAYS and kept getting the busy signal or would get disconnected after waiting forever. What finally worked was calling the 1-800-300-5616 number at exactly 8:01 AM on a Thursday morning and spamming redial until I got through the busy signal (took about 20 tries but persistence paid off!). Once I got a rep, the actual process was pretty straightforward - they just needed my routing number, account number, and they verified my SSN and address. The whole call took maybe 10 minutes once I actually got someone on the line. One heads up though: they warned me it could take up to 10 business days for the change to take effect, and they recommended keeping my old account open until I see the first successful deposit. Also make sure your name on the bank account matches EXACTLY what EDD has on file - apparently that's a common hangup. Good luck and don't give up! The system is broken but you'll get through eventually 💪

•@Chad Winthrope This is super helpful! The spamming redial tip is genius - I never would have thought of that. Quick question: when you say the name has to match exactly, does that include middle names/initials? My bank account has my full middle name but I m'not sure if EDD has just my middle initial on file. Don t'want to get tripped up by something that small! Also, did they give you any kind of confirmation number or way to track that the change was processing?

Thanks for all the helpful info everyone! I'm going through this exact same situation right now. Quick question - has anyone had success with the UI Online portal lately? I keep seeing conflicting info about whether you can actually update direct deposit info online or if you HAVE to call. Also, for those who got through by phone, did you notice any difference in wait times between different days of the week? I'm trying to strategize the best time to call so I don't waste my entire day on hold 😩

•Hey @Zainab Ismail! Unfortunately the UI Online portal is basically useless for actually updating direct deposit info - you can view your current bank details but can't change them. It's super misleading! 😤 As for timing, I've had the best luck calling on Tuesday or Wednesday mornings right at 8 AM. Mondays are chaos and Fridays seem to have skeleton crews. Also, avoid calling around the 1st or 15th of the month when everyone's trying to sort out payment issues. The wait times are still brutal but slightly more manageable mid-week. Good luck! 🍀

Hey Victoria! I just went through this whole ordeal myself about 3 weeks ago. Here's what I wish someone had told me upfront: First, definitely call right at 8 AM sharp - I had the best luck on Tuesdays. The number is 1-800-300-5616, and once you get through the menu (press 1 for English, then 6 for general info, then 7 to speak to a rep), you'll probably wait 1-3 hours but don't hang up! Second, have EVERYTHING ready: your SSN, new routing/account numbers, and the exact name as it appears on your bank account. Third, and this is important - they'll tell you it takes 7-10 business days to process, but in my experience it was closer to 2 weeks. Keep your old account open until you see that first successful deposit! The rep will also do a small test deposit first to verify everything works. It's a pain but totally doable. Stay strong and keep us posted on how it goes! 💪

•@Yara Nassar This is exactly the kind of detailed breakdown I was hoping to find! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. The 2-week timeline is really helpful to know - I was getting worried it would be even longer. Quick question: did they give you any kind of confirmation or reference number when you completed the update over the phone? I want to make sure I have something to reference if there are any issues down the line. Also really appreciate the tip about keeping the old account open - that could have been a disaster if I d'closed it too early! 😅

Just wanted to chime in as someone who recently went through this process! I had to update my direct deposit info about 6 weeks ago after switching banks. Here's what worked for me: I called the 1-800-300-5616 number at 8:00 AM exactly on a Tuesday morning (took about 15 redials to get past the busy signal). The wait was about 2.5 hours, but I just put it on speaker and did other things while waiting. Once I got through, the rep was actually really helpful and efficient - the whole update process took maybe 7-8 minutes. They walked me through everything and confirmed all my info back to me twice. One thing that really helped was having a photo of my voided check ready on my phone so I could double-check the routing/account numbers while talking to them. The change took about 8 business days to go into effect, and they did send that little test deposit first like others mentioned. My biggest tip: don't get discouraged by the busy signals and long wait times - it's frustrating but you WILL eventually get through! Hang in there Victoria, you've got this! 🙌

•@Joy Olmedo This is so encouraging to hear! I ve'been putting off making the call because I was dreading the wait time, but knowing that people are actually getting through and that the reps are helpful makes me feel way better about tackling this. The tip about having a photo of the voided check ready is brilliant - I never would have thought of that but it makes total sense. I m'definitely going to try the Tuesday 8 AM strategy that seems to be working for everyone. Thanks for sharing your timeline too - 8 business days doesn t'sound too bad compared to some of the horror stories I was imagining! 😊

Hey @Victoria Scott! I just went through this exact same situation about 2 months ago and totally feel your stress about missing payments. Here's what worked for me: I called 1-800-300-5616 right at 8:00 AM on a Wednesday morning (took about 12 redial attempts to get past busy signals). The wait was around 2 hours, but I put it on speaker and did chores while waiting. When I finally got through, the rep was super professional and the actual update took less than 10 minutes. Make sure you have your new routing number, account number, and SSN ready to go. One thing that caught me off guard - they asked me to verify the exact spelling of my name as it appears on the new bank account, so double-check that matches your EDD records beforehand. They processed a small test deposit within 3 days, then my regular payment went to the new account about a week later. The whole process took about 10 business days total. It's definitely a pain but totally manageable! Pro tip: don't close your old account until you see at least one successful deposit in the new one. You've got this! 💪

•@Quinn Herbert This is such a comprehensive breakdown - thank you! I m'definitely feeling more confident about tackling this now. The detail about verifying the exact spelling of your name is so important and something I wouldn t'have thought to check beforehand. I m'curious - when they did the test deposit, did they notify you somehow or did you just have to keep checking your account? Also really appreciate the timeline breakdown. Knowing it took about 10 business days total helps me plan around when to expect everything to be fully switched over. The tip about not closing the old account is clutch - seems like that s'a common thread from everyone who s'been through this! 🙏
