EDD: How long to switch from checks to direct deposit?
Hey everyone, I'm trying to switch my unemployment payments from paper checks to direct deposit. Has anyone done this recently? How long did it take for the change to go through? I'm worried about missing payments during the transition. Any tips or experiences would be really helpful!

I just went through this process last month. It took about 2 weeks for the change to take effect. Make sure you have all your bank info correct when you submit the request. Double check those numbers!

ā¢2 weeks? that's not bad at all. I've been waiting for over a month now š©

ā¢Did you have to call them or could you do it online? The website is so confusing sometimes

ā¢I did it all online. But yeah, the website is a maze. Look for the 'Payment Methods' section in your account settings.

Ugh, good luck. I tried to do this and somehow they lost my request. Ended up having to call them multiple times to get it sorted out. The whole system is a mess.

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at EDD. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

ā¢Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

ā¢$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken š¤

ā¢I know it sounds weird, but I swear it's legit. Saved me hours of frustration. Sometimes you gotta spend money to save time, ya know?

Pro tip: Keep getting your checks while waiting for direct deposit to kick in. Don't cancel the checks until you see the money hit your bank account. Better safe than sorry!

I switched to direct deposit about 3 months ago. Here's what I learned: ⢠The online process is straightforward, but not always reliable ⢠It took exactly 10 business days for my change to take effect ⢠I received an email confirmation when the change was processed ⢠My first direct deposit payment came right on schedule ⢠Make sure your mailing address is up to date too, just in case Overall, it was pretty smooth for me. Just be patient and keep an eye on your account. Good luck!

anyone else notice that the EDD website is always down for "scheduled maintenance" whenever you actually need to use it? š

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help speed things up with EDD. Worth a shot if you're having trouble.
