PA UC payment method changed - When will direct deposit start after receiving paper checks?
Just checked my mailbox and got 4 paper checks for my unemployment payments today! I'm confused because I already signed up for direct deposit when I first filed my claim. Will my next payments automatically switch to direct deposit now? I really don't want to keep getting paper checks since it takes forever to get here. Has anyone dealt with this before? How many more paper checks will I get before it switches over?

Same thing happened to me last month. The first batch is almost always paper checks even if u signed up for direct deposit. Mine switched to direct deposit after the first 4 checks. You should be good for the next payment!

•Thank you! That's a relief. Did you have to do anything extra to make sure it switched, or did it just happen automatically?

The PA UC system typically processes payment method changes in batches. When you first sign up, they often default to paper checks while your banking information is being verified in their system. This is a security measure. Your next payment should go through as direct deposit assuming your banking information was entered correctly and verified. If your next payment isn't direct deposited, I would suggest logging into your dashboard to verify your banking information is showing correctly, and that your direct deposit status shows as 'active' rather than 'pending.

•That's really helpful, thank you! I'll double check my information on the dashboard to make sure everything looks correct.

•Don't believe that!!! My first 6 payments were paper checks after I signed up for direct deposit. I called and called and couldn't get through to ANYONE at UC. The system is totally broken and they just do whatever they want without telling you. I ended up with checks for WEEKS even though I signed up online!!!!!!

My experience with PA UC has been that any banking changes take 2-3 payment cycles to fully process. This is normal procedure. They process the change but it takes time to fully implement in their system. While waiting for your direct deposit to activate, make sure you're entering your weekly claims on time - that's the most important thing. And keep checking your mailbox for those paper checks in the meantime.

•That makes sense. I'll keep filing on time and checking my mail. Just hoping I don't miss any of the paper checks since mail delivery has been spotty in my neighborhood.

I tried for weeks to get through to PA UC to fix my payment method issue and kept hitting busy signals. I finally tried Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an actual person at UC within 20 minutes. They confirmed my direct deposit was set up but had a verification flag, and fixed it while I was on the phone. You can see how it works in their video: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 - saved me weeks of waiting and wondering!

•I had THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM last month!!! The system kept saying my direct deposit was set up but then I kept getting paper checks. No way to know what's happening since you can't talk to anyone. Total nightmare. Took almost a month before it switched over.

•Thanks for the tip! If my next payment isn't direct deposit I might try that. Getting through to an actual person seems impossible otherwise.

forgot to mention - make sure ur bank acct info is 100% correct. my friend put the wrong routing number and it delayed everything by another 3 weeks

Honestly the whole PA system is designed to make it as difficult as possible to get your benefits. I bet they'll keep sending checks just to make it harder for you. Not trying to be negative but that's just how they operate. They hope you'll miss a check in the mail and then they save money. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING!!!

•While the system can definitely be frustrating, there's actually a legitimate reason for the delay. PA UC uses a verification process for new direct deposit information to prevent fraud. It's not designed to make you miss payments. If you're concerned about mail delivery, you can request mail forwarding or set up informed delivery with USPS to get digital previews of incoming mail.
