How to check which EDD payment method I selected (direct deposit vs Money Network card)?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I filed my unemployment claim about 3 weeks ago but I honestly can't remember which payment option I selected (direct deposit or the Money Network debit card). I'm currently out of town for a family emergency and don't have access to any mail that might have arrived at my home address. My first payment should be coming soon and I'm starting to panic a little because I need that money ASAP. Is there any way to check which payment method I chose through UI Online? I've looked through all the account settings and can't find this info anywhere. Any help would be really appreciated!

You can check your payment method by calling EDD directly at 1-800-300-5616. When you get through to a representative, they can verify whether you selected direct deposit or the Money Network card. You'll need your Social Security Number and possibly your Customer Account Number (CAN) for verification. \n\nAlternatively, if you log into UI Online, go to \

Thanks for the detailed info! I did try looking under Profile but couldn't find any payment preferences option. I'll try giving them a call tomorrow morning, though I've heard it's really difficult to get through...

I had the EXACT same problem last year!!! Literally could NOT remember what I picked and was away from home for work training. Ended up my payment went to a Money Network card that sat in my mailbox for TWO WEEKS before I got home. So frustrating because I needed that $$ to pay rent!!

Ugh that sounds exactly like my situation! I'm worried a card is sitting in my mailbox right now while I'm 400 miles away. Did you ever figure out how to check online which option you picked?

Unfortunately, there isn't a direct way to check your payment method selection through UI Online once you've already made your selection during the initial application. The payment preference is set during the application process and isn't readily visible in the account settings afterward.\n\nYour options are:\n\n1. Call EDD at 1-800-300-5616 to verify your payment method.\n2. If you selected direct deposit, check your bank account for deposits from EDD.\n3. If you don't see a deposit, it likely means you selected the Money Network card option.\n\nOne thing to note: If this is your first time on unemployment, the default is the Money Network card unless you specifically selected direct deposit and provided your bank information.

Thanks for the clear explanation. This is my first time on unemployment, and I can't remember if I entered my bank info or not. I guess I'll have to try calling them - wish me luck getting through!

Most people get the card by default, I think. Unless you SPECIFICALLY remember entering your bank routing number and account number, you're probably getting the card. They don't make the direct deposit option super obvious during the application.

That's helpful to know. I have a vague memory of seeing something about direct deposit but can't remember if I completed that section. Guess I'll operate on the assumption it's coming via card.

I've been dealing with EDD for years, and the payment method problem is frustrating. The system isn't user-friendly at all. If you need to reach EDD quickly about this, I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was skeptical at first, but it got me through to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes when I was trying to fix my payment method issue last month. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km\n\nOtherwise, you might spend hours redialing that 800 number and getting the \

Does that service actually work?? I tried calling EDD like 50 times last month and never got through!!!

It worked for me twice now. Definitely better than spending days trying to get through. The second time I got an agent in about 15 minutes who was able to check my payment method and help me switch to direct deposit.

If you selected the Money Network card and need access to your funds immediately, once you confirm that's your payment method, you can actually register for the Money Network mobile app. If the card was already issued and activated (it happens automatically when they send it), you can sometimes access your funds digitally through the app before the physical card arrives. Saved me when I was in a similar situation!\n\nBUT you'd need the card number to set it up, which you obviously don't have. So calling EDD is probably your only option right now unless you have someone who can check your mail.

That's good to know about the Money Network app for future reference! Unfortunately I don't have anyone who can check my mail right now. I'll try calling EDD tomorrow.

Thanks for checking! I just looked there as well and don't see anything about payment preferences, just my email settings. I think I'll have to call them tomorrow.

Thank you so much for this detailed response! This really helps. I think you're right that I probably didn't complete the direct deposit setup. I'll call EDD first thing tomorrow morning and see if I can either get confirmation or possibly switch to direct deposit if my payment hasn't processed yet.

Hey Peyton! I went through this exact same situation a few months ago and was pulling my hair out trying to figure it out. Here's what I learned: if you can't find the payment method info in UI Online (which seems to be the case for most people), the fastest way is definitely calling EDD. But here's a pro tip - try calling right when they open at 8 AM. I got through on my second try when I called at 8:02 AM on a Tuesday. Also, since you mentioned this is your first time filing, there's a good chance you're getting the Money Network card since that's the default. Most people I know who got direct deposit remember specifically entering their banking info because it was kind of a pain to dig up routing numbers and all that. Hope you get this sorted out quickly! The waiting game with EDD payments is stressful enough without not knowing where the money is going.
