Need help proving SDI tax payments pre-military for EDD claim - what docs required?
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble proving I paid SDI taxes before joining the military. I need to upload some documents to resolve this issue. Has anyone gone through something similar? What kind of paperwork did you need to show?

I went through something similar when I joined the Air Force. You'll need to gather your pay stubs or W-2 forms from before you enlisted. Those should show your SDI contributions. Make sure you have copies for each job you worked!

β’Thanks for the tip! I think I have most of my old W-2s somewhere. Did you have to submit them online or mail them in?

β’For me, I had to upload scanned copies to their online portal. But that was a few years ago, so it might have changed. Best to check their website or ask when you call.

Make sure you also have your DD-214 handy. They might ask for that to verify your military service dates.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone about this! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

β’I was skeptical too, but I tried it and it actually worked. Saved me hours of hold time.

β’For me it was. I wasted way more time trying to get through on my own. But yeah, everyone's situation is different.

This whole system is so broken. Why do they make it so hard for veterans to prove their work history? We served our country, for crying out loud! π€

β’Preach! π The bureaucracy is insane. We need better support for our vets.

Have you tried contacting your old employers? Sometimes they can provide documentation of your SDI contributions if you're missing any records.

Pro tip: Keep a digital copy of ALL your tax documents and pay stubs going forward. I learned this the hard way too. Now I scan everything and keep it in a secure cloud storage. Makes life so much easier when stuff like this comes up.

β’That's smart. I'm definitely gonna start doing that from now on. Any recommended apps for scanning docs?

β’I use CamScanner on my phone. Works great and you can organize everything into folders. Just make sure to enable 2FA for security!

Here's a detailed breakdown of what you need to do: 1. Gather all your pre-military employment documents: - W-2 forms - Pay stubs (especially ones that show SDI deductions) - Tax returns 2. Collect your military service documents: - DD-214 - Any other discharge papers 3. Write a clear, concise letter explaining your situation and why you're submitting these documents. 4. Make copies of EVERYTHING. Never send originals. 5. If submitting online: - Scan all documents at high quality (300 DPI minimum) - Save as PDFs with clear file names - Check file size limits on the submission portal 6. If mailing: - Use a trackable shipping method - Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you want confirmation 7. Follow up within 2 weeks if you don't hear back. Remember, persistence is key. Don't be afraid to call multiple times or escalate if needed. Good luck!

Anyone else find it ironic that we gotta jump through hoops to prove we paid into a system that's supposed to help us? π€ The whole thing needs an overhaul tbh
