Need help with SDI extension claim - what docs do I need?
Hey everyone, I need to file for an SDI extension. Has anyone gone through this process recently? What kind of documents do I need to gather? I'm not sure how to explain why I need more time. Any advice would be really appreciated!

I just went through this last month. Make sure you have all your medical records from your current claim period. You'll need a doctor's note explaining why you need more time off work. Be prepared to give a detailed explanation of your condition and how it's affecting your ability to return to work. Good luck!

Thanks for the info! Do you know if I need to get new medical records or if my existing ones will work?

You'll probably need updated records. I had to get a new evaluation from my doctor within 30 days of filing for the extension. Better safe than sorry!

This is great advice. I'd also add that you should keep a copy of everything you submit. The EDD can be a real pain sometimes with losing documents. 🙄

Ugh, extensions are such a headache. I've been trying to get mine approved for weeks now. The whole system is broken if you ask me. 🤬

Hey guys, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at EDD! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. I was skeptical at first too, but I can confirm it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration!

I get it, but for me, it was worth every penny. Time is money, and this saved me a ton of time.

Pro tip: When explaining why you need the extension, be specific about your symptoms and how they impact your daily life. Don't just say "I'm not better yet." Give concrete examples of how your condition prevents you from performing your job duties.

Has anyone had luck with getting an extension approved for mental health reasons? I'm dealing with severe anxiety and depression, but I'm worried they won't take it seriously.

I got approved for depression last year. Make sure you have documentation from a psychiatrist or therapist. Be honest about your struggles. Mental health is just as valid as physical health! 💚

Thank you so much, that's really reassuring to hear. I'll make sure to get thorough documentation.

Word of warning: double-check all your paperwork before submitting. I made a tiny mistake on my form and it delayed my extension by over a month. Don't be like me lol

Does anyone know if theres a limit to how many times you can extend your SDI claim? I'm on my second extension and worried they might cut me off soon.

I think it depends on your specific situation, but I've heard of people getting up to 3 or 4 extensions. Best to ask EDD directly tho.
