EDD Paid Family Leave: Only received half of $12k benefit after 3 months. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm having some issues with my paid family leave benefits from EDD. I filed for 8 weeks back in January, but I've only received about half of what I'm supposed to get. Has anyone else experienced delays in getting their full benefits? I'm expecting around $12,000 total, but so far I've only gotten about $6,000. It's been a few months now and I'm starting to get worried. Any advice on how to follow up with EDD or what might be causing the delay?

Ugh, I feel your pain! I went through something similar last year. Have you tried calling EDD directly? It's a pain to get through, but it's usually the fastest way to get answers.

•I've been trying to call, but it's impossible to get through! The lines are always busy 😫

•Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. You might have to try a few days in a row, but it's your best shot at getting through.

•Or try calling at like 4:55 PM. Sometimes they stay on a bit after closing to finish up calls.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•Yeah, it's totally legit! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

•How long did you have to wait for the callback?

•It took about 2 hours for me, but I've heard it can vary. Still way better than trying to call yourself!

Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all your documents: claim number, paystubs, any correspondence from EDD. 2. Call EDD first thing in the morning (8:00 AM sharp). 3. If you can't get through, keep trying every 15 minutes. 4. When you do get through, be polite but firm. Ask for a detailed explanation of your claim status. 5. If they can't help, ask to speak with a supervisor. 6. Take notes during the call, including the name of who you spoke with. 7. If you still don't get answers, consider contacting your local state representative. They can sometimes intervene on your behalf. Don't give up! The system is frustrating, but persistence pays off. Good luck!

•This is solid advice. I'd add: document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every interaction. It might come in handy later.

EDD is such a joke these days 🤡 I swear they're purposely making it hard to get our money. Hang in there, OP!

•It's not the workers' fault tho. They're overwhelmed and understaffed.

•Maybe, but that doesn't help when you're broke and waiting on benefits you're entitled to 🤷♂️

Did you submit all the required documentation? Sometimes they hold up payments if they're missing info.

•I thought I did, but now I'm second-guessing myself. I'll double-check everything. Thanks for the tip!

I had a similar issue last year. Turns out there was a glitch in their system that was causing delays for a bunch of people. Might be worth asking if there are any known technical issues when you get through to someone.

Plot twist: what if we all showed up at the EDD office with lawn chairs and snacks? Can't ignore us if we're right there lol
