EDD Nightmare: Accidental PFL/SDI overlap, need advice on repayment and new claim submission
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my PFL and SDI benefits. I accidentally got paid for PFL during the same time I was receiving SDI after my C-section and hernia surgery. Now I need to repay the PFL and submit a new claim. Has anyone dealt with this before? Any advice on how to handle repayment and resubmission? I'm thinking about emailing EDD but not sure what to say. Help a girl out!

Ugh, the EDD system is such a mess! I had a similar issue last year. Here's what I did: 1. Call EDD asap and explain the situation 2. Ask for a repayment plan if you can't pay it all at once 3. Get everything in writing 4. Keep detailed records of all communication 5. Be patient (easier said than done, I know) Good luck! The bureaucracy is a nightmare, but you'll get through it.

•This is solid advice. I'd add: make sure to follow up regularly. Sometimes things fall through the cracks at EDD.

•Yeah, calling can be a pain. I found a workaround tho. There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials the menu, waits on hold, and connects you when an agent picks up. Costs $20 but saved me hours of frustration. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•$20 to make a phone call? Sounds like a scam to me 🤔

•Nah, it's legit. I was skeptical too but it actually works. Saved me from pulling my hair out lol

omg this happened to me last month! its such a headache. i ended up faxing them (yes, faxing in 2025 🙄) a letter explaining everything. took forever but they finally sorted it out. hang in there!

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help cut through the red tape with EDD. Worth a shot!

•Haha tempting but no way! I'd rather deal with it now than have it blow up later 😅

I work in HR and deal with this stuff all the time. Here's a template email you can use: Subject: Clarification and Resolution Request for PFL/SDI Overlap Dear EDD Representative, I'm writing about an issue with my PFL claim, which was mistakenly processed during my SDI benefit period. I need to: 1. Repay the incorrect PFL payment 2. Submit a new PFL claim Please advise on the repayment process and how to correctly file my new claim. Thank you for your assistance. [Your Name] [Contact Info] Hope this helps!

•For real. It's 2025 and we're still dealing with this archaic system. Smh

Pro tip: document EVERYTHING. Every call, email, letter. You never know when you'll need to prove you've been trying to resolve this. CYA all the way!
