EDD Nightmare: Accidentally filed PFL instead of SDI after c-section, now dealing with overpayment notice and no payments. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my disability claim. I accidentally filed for Paid Family Leave (PFL) instead of disability after my c-section. I realized my mistake and submitted a disability claim, which got approved. Now my PFL claim is cancelled, but I'm not getting any disability payments. To make matters worse, I got a notice saying I was overpaid for overlapping PFL and disability claims, even though I never got any disability money during that time. Has anyone dealt with something like this before? Any advice on how to fix this mess and start getting my disability payments?

Ugh, the EDD system is such a nightmare! I had a similar issue with overlapping claims. Here's what worked for me: 1. Call EDD first thing in the morning (like 8:01 AM) 2. Explain the situation calmly and clearly 3. Ask them to review your claim history 4. Request a supervisor if the rep can't help 5. Keep detailed notes of every call It took me a few tries, but I finally got it sorted. Don't give up!

•This is solid advice! I'd add: get everything in writing if you can. It helps to have a paper trail when dealing with bureaucracy 📄

•@profile 3 I know it sucks, but keep trying! It took me like 50 attempts, but I finally got through. Persistence is key with these clowns 🤡

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😤

•I get the skepticism, but it seriously worked for me. After weeks of trying to get through, I was desperate. The $20 was worth it to finally sort out my claim.

•Can confirm, I used this service too. It's legit and saved me hours of frustration. Sometimes you gotta spend money to make money 💁♀️

Have you tried submitting an appeal? You can do it online through your EDD account. Explain the situation in detail and provide any supporting documents. It might take a while, but it's better than waiting on hold forever.

This happened to my sister last year. It's a common mistake apparently. She had to fax (yes, fax in 2023 🙄) a letter explaining the situation along with her medical records. Took about 6 weeks, but they eventually fixed it and gave her backpay.

•Fax? Are we living in the stone age? 😂 But seriously, thanks for the tip. I'll dust off my fax machine lol

Pro tip: Contact your local state representative's office. They often have liaisons who can help navigate EDD issues. I did this and got my problem resolved in 2 weeks after months of getting nowhere on my own.

•This is the way. 💯 My assemblymember's office was super helpful when I had issues with my claim.

•Wait, really? How do you even find your local rep?

•@profile 14 Just google '[your city] state representative' and it should come up. Most have forms on their websites for constituent services. Good luck!

I'm dealing with something similar right now! Filed the wrong type of claim and now it's a total mess with EDD. The overpayment notice is so frustrating when you haven't even received the money they claim you were overpaid. I've been documenting everything - dates, times, who I spoke with, reference numbers. Also trying the early morning call strategy but man, it's rough getting through. Definitely going to look into contacting my state rep's office based on the advice here. Hang in there, we'll get through this bureaucratic nightmare! 💪

•Welcome to the EDD nightmare club! 😅 I'm new here but dealing with similar issues. Your documentation strategy is smart - I wish I had started doing that from day one. The overpayment notices when you haven't even received payments is like adding insult to injury. Thanks for sharing your experience, it helps to know others are going through this too. Definitely going to try that state rep route as well!
