PFL not received after refiling post-disability from C-section. EDD help needed!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I just had a baby via c-section and was on disability for a while. Now that my disability period has ended, I refiled for Paid Family Leave (PFL) but haven't received anything yet. Has anyone else dealt with this? It's been a few weeks and I'm starting to get worried. Any advice on how to speed up the process or what I might be missing?

Congrats on the new baby! 🎉 I went through something similar last year. It can take a while for PFL to kick in after disability, especially if there's any gap between the two. Have you checked your account online to see if there's any status update?

•Thanks! Yeah, I've been checking online like crazy but it just says 'pending'. So frustrating 😫

•Ugh, that 'pending' status is the worst. Hang in there! It took about 3 weeks for mine to change from pending to approved.

The EDD system is such a mess rn. I've been waiting on unemployment for 2 months now. seems like everyones having issues no matter what kind of claim

Ok, so here's what you need to do: 1. Double-check that you filed for PFL correctly. Sometimes people miss a step or forget to submit a document. 2. If everything looks good on your end, you need to contact EDD directly. Yes, I know it's a pain, but it's necessary. 3. Keep a log of all your attempts to contact them. This can be useful if you need to escalate later. 4. If you can't get through on the phone (which is likely), try sending a message through your online account. 5. If you still don't hear back after a week, consider reaching out to your local state representative. They often have liaisons who can help with EDD issues. 6. In the meantime, make sure you have all your documentation in order - medical records, birth certificate, anything related to your disability claim, etc. 7. Don't forget to certify for benefits every two weeks, even if you haven't been approved yet. Hang in there! The system is frustrating but persistence usually pays off.

•This is great advice. I'd add that sometimes faxing documents can be faster than mailing them, if that's an option for you.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Sounds sketchy. Is this legit?

•Yeah, I was skeptical at first too, but it actually worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

•How long did you have to wait once they connected you?

•It took about 2 hours total, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music. They just called me when an agent was on the line.

I'm in the exact same boat! C-section in March, disability ended in May, filed for PFL right after and crickets since then. It's so stressful especially with a newborn to take care of. Let me know if you find any solutions!

•Ugh, sorry you're dealing with this too! I'll definitely update if I make any progress. Fingers crossed for both of us 🤞

Pro tip: if you can't get through on the main line, try calling right when they open or just before they close. Sometimes you can catch a break in the queue.

•This! Also, Wednesdays seem to be less busy for some reason.

Not to be that guy, but have you checked to make sure you're actually eligible for PFL after disability? There are some weird rules about timing and stuff.

•Yeah, I triple-checked before applying. Should be eligible but who knows with all the red tape 🙄
