Need to cancel PFL claim to get pending EDD disability payments - Help!

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I need to cancel my Paid Family Leave (PFL) claim because I still have disability payments pending. I called the disability line and they told me I need to do this to get my pending payments through them. Has anyone been through this process before? Any advice on how to handle it smoothly?

I found a way to solve cancelling PFL for disability payments, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjRGrI7joSY

Ugh, the bureaucracy is real! I had a similar situation last year. It's a pain, but you gotta do what they say. Make sure you document everything - who you talked to, when, and what they told you. It'll save you headaches later.

fr fr 💯 documentation is key. I learned that the hard way

Yep, CYA all day everyday when dealing with these govt agencies lol

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely keep track of everything. Did it take long for your payments to come through after cancelling?

It took about 3 weeks for me, but I've heard it can vary. Hang in there!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

Yeah, it actually does! Saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo

Is it legit tho? Like, are they allowed to do that?

As far as I know, it's totally legit. They're just automating the hold process for you. 🤷‍♂️

Here's what you need to do to cancel your PFL claim and get your disability payments: 1. Call the EDD PFL office at 1-877-238-4373 2. Tell them you need to cancel your PFL claim 3. Ask for a confirmation number or email 4. Follow up with the disability office to ensure they process your pending payments 5. Keep all documentation and communication records Remember, the process can take a few weeks. Be patient but persistent. If you don't hear back within 2 weeks, follow up again. Good luck!

man, the system is so broken. why do we have to jump through all these hoops just to get what we're entitled to? 🤦‍♂️

Preach! 🙌 It's like they make it complicated on purpose

ikr? its almost like they hope we'll just give up and go away 🙄

Quick question - how long ago did you file your PFL claim? There might be a waiting period before you can cancel without penalties.

I went thru this last month. Make sure you follow up CONSTANTLY. I had to call like 5 times before everything was sorted out. Don't let them forget about you!

Oof, that sounds exhausting. But thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure to stay on top of it!

Has anyone tried appealing instead of cancelling? I've heard sometimes that can be faster, but idk if it applies in this situation 🤔

I tried that once. It was a whole other can of worms. Wouldn't recommend unless you're really desperate.

I'm dealing with a similar situation right now! Just wanted to add - when you call to cancel your PFL claim, ask them to send you written confirmation via email or mail. I learned this from a coworker who had issues proving they cancelled their claim later on. Also, if you have any upcoming medical appointments related to your disability, mention those dates when you call - it might help expedite the process. The whole thing is such a headache but we gotta navigate it! 💪

Great tip about getting written confirmation! That's definitely something I wouldn't have thought of. Thanks for sharing your experience - it's helpful to know I'm not alone in dealing with this mess 😅
