EDD PFL reapplication after c-section disability claim - no payments received
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my PFL application. I initially applied for PFL before applying for disability after having a c-section. When I realized my mistake, I applied for disability, which led to my PFL being cancelled. I received full disability benefits, but now that my disability period is over, I'm trying to reapply for PFL. The problem is, I haven't been receiving any payments. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of situation? Any advice on how to navigate this mess with EDD?

Ugh, the EDD system is such a nightmare! 🤦♀️ I had a similar issue last year. Here's what worked for me: 1. Gather all your docs - birth certificate, medical records, everything. 2. Call EDD and explain the situation clearly. Emphasize that your initial PFL was canceled due to the disability claim. 3. Ask specifically about reactivating or reapplying for PFL now that disability has ended. 4. Take notes during the call and follow up on everything they tell you to do. Stay persistent! It might take a few calls, but you'll get there. Good luck!

•This is solid advice! 💯 I'd add one thing: keep a log of every call you make, including the date, time, and name of the person you spoke with. It'll save you headaches later.

•Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely follow these steps. Quick question - how long did it take for you to see results after you started this process?

•For me, it took about 3 weeks from my first call to seeing the payments start up again. But I've heard it can vary a lot. Just keep at it!

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help push things through with EDD faster.

•I hadn't even thought of that! How do I find out who my assembly member is?

•Just google '[your city] California assembly member'. Their office should have a way to contact them for constituent services. They deal with EDD issues all the time!

•Thanks! I'll definitely look into this option.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•I was skeptical at first too, but it really did work for me. Saved me hours of hold time.

•I get it, but think about how much time you spend on hold. For me, it was worth it to actually get through and start solving my problem.

pro tip: if u can, apply online instead of by phone. way less of a headache imo

•I tried that initially, but my situation seems too complicated for the online system to handle. 😕

This happened to me last year! It's such a pain. Make sure you emphasize to EDD that you're reapplying for PFL after your disability claim ended. They should have a process for this, but sometimes the reps don't know about it. Ask to speak to a supervisor if the first person you talk to seems confused.
