SDI nightmare: On hold for 6+ hours, can't check sister's account. Any tips to actually reach a human?

I've been trying to check my sister's account with SDI for days now and it's been a nightmare. I've been on hold for hours, even with priority calls, and still can't get through. Yesterday I was on hold for SIX HOURS and today I started calling at 8 AM with no luck. I've recommended this service to so many people and now I can't even get help myself. Has anyone else had this kind of trouble lately? Any tips on how to actually reach a human being at SDI?

Ugh, I feel your pain. SDI's phone system is a total joke. I've been trying to get through for weeks now. It's like they don't want us to actually talk to anyone. 🤬

Same here! Its ridiculous how they expect us to just sit around all day waiting for them to pick up. Don't they realize we have lives???

I heard they're understaffed, but come on. This is getting out of hand. There's gotta be a better way to handle this.

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

20 bucks? Idk man, seems kinda steep just to talk to someone...

I get the skepticism, but honestly, after wasting days trying to get through, it was worth every penny. Saved me so much time and frustration.

Just tried it and it actually worked! Got through in about an hour. Thanks for the tip! šŸ™Œ

Have you tried calling right when they open? I've had some luck getting through if I start dialing at 7:59 AM and keep redialing until I get in the queue.

This is why we need to overhaul the entire system. It's not just SDI, it's unemployment, DMV, all of it. The government needs to invest in better technology and hire more staff. We're living in 2023, not 1993!

Preach! šŸ‘ But lets be real, theyll probably "fix" it by making an app that crashes every other day lol

True that. Remember when they tried to "upgrade" the unemployment system last year? What a disaster that was.

Here's what I've learned after dealing with SDI for the past 3 months: • Calling early doesn't always work. They seem to have random times when lines open up. • Using the online portal is hit or miss. Sometimes it updates, sometimes it doesn't. • If you can, try to get a callback number. It's not perfect, but better than being on hold. • Document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every online interaction. • If all else fails, contact your local state representative. They can sometimes intervene. Hang in there, OP. I know it's frustrating, but keep at it. The system is broken, but eventually, you'll get through.

Thanks for the detailed advice! I'll definitely try contacting my rep if I can't get through soon. It's just so frustrating when you're trying to help family and can't even get basic info.

Has anyone tried using the SDI mobile app? I heard they updated it recently, wondering if it's any better for checking account status.

I tried it last week. It's marginally better, but still pretty glitchy. Could see basic info but couldn't update anything.

The app is a joke. Crashes every time I try to log in. Back to the phone lines I guess šŸ™„
