SDI hasn't processed my medical certification for 2 weeks, no payments for a month. Help!

I haven't gotten my disability payments for a month now. It's so frustrating! I sent in my medical certification two weeks ago, but it still hasn't been processed. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to get through to someone at SDI? It's nearly impossible to reach them!

I found a way to solve disability payment delays, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5a3gNdByYQ

Ugh, I feel your pain! I was in the same boat last year. Have you tried calling first thing in the morning? Sometimes that works better.

I've tried calling at all hours, no luck 😭 It's like they don't want us to reach them!

Pro tip: call right at 8:00:01 AM. Set an alarm and everything. Sometimes you can get through before the lines get jammed.

Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a shot tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed 🤞

The whole system is broken af. I've been waiting on my claim for 3 months now. It's ridiculous how they expect us to survive without income for so long.

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site called claimyr.com. It's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to your phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20? That's kinda steep just to make a phone call...

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imho.

Can confirm, I used it last week. Got through in like 30 mins. Beats spending all day on hold!

Have you tried faxing your medical certification? Sometimes that's faster than mailing it. Also, make sure you keep copies of EVERYTHING you send them. The EDD is notorious for 'losing' paperwork.

I didn't even think about faxing! Do you know if they have a fax number?

Yeah, it's 1-855-341-6670. Good luck!

This is why we need to overhaul the entire disability system. It's a joke that people who are already struggling with health issues have to jump through so many hoops just to get the benefits they're entitled to. We should be making it easier, not harder!

Preach! 🙌 The system is designed to wear us down so we give up.

100% agree. We need to vote for politicians who will actually fix this mess.

Here's what I've learned from dealing with SDI for years: 1. Always keep copies of everything you send them. EVERYTHING. 2. If you can, fax your documents instead of mailing them. It's faster and you get a confirmation. 3. Be persistent. Call every day if you have to. 4. If you're really stuck, contact your local state representative's office. They can sometimes intervene on your behalf. 5. Join Facebook groups or forums dedicated to SDI issues. Sometimes you can get insider tips. 6. If all else fails, consider hiring an advocate or lawyer who specializes in disability claims. Remember, you're entitled to these benefits. Don't give up!

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely try contacting my state rep if I can't get through soon.

This should be pinned to the top of the subreddit. Super helpful!

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they update info there before they send out notices.

Yeah, I check it obsessively. No updates there either 😞

Unpopular opinion: maybe we should privatize the disability insurance system. The government clearly can't handle it efficiently.

Because private insurance companies are sooo much better at paying claims? 🙄

Nah, we just need to properly fund and staff the current system. Privatization would just make it worse for most people.
