EDD SDI payment delays after certification suddenly taking 5-6 days instead of same day

I'm at my wits end with these SDI payment delays! For the first 4 months of my disability claim, payments would consistently hit my account the SAME NIGHT after certifying - usually by 9pm. But for the last two months, every single certification is taking 4-6 days to process with ZERO explanation! My rent was due yesterday, and I'm going to get hit with late fees because I'm still waiting on this payment that I certified for 5 days ago. Has anyone else noticed SDI payment processing times getting worse? Did something change in their system? I called EDD about 20 times yesterday but couldn't get through to a human being. I can't afford to keep waiting almost a week every time I certify - bills don't wait!!

Same thing happening to me! I used to get paid within 24 hrs after certifying, now it's taking almost a week. I asked around and apparently EDD implemented some new fraud detection system that's slowing down all payments. Try using Claimyr to get through to an actual EDD agent (claimyr.com) - that's what finally worked for me after days of failed calls. They got me connected to an agent in about 20 minutes who explained the situation. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd

Thanks for the suggestion. Did the agent actually do anything to speed up your payment or just explain why it's happening? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point.

this happened to my cousin too lol. he said something about EDD doing updates to their computers or whatever

I swear EDD is ALWAYS doing system updates!!! Every single time I have a problem they blame it on system updates or maintenance. How is a government agency this incompetent in 2025?? 🤬

The payment delay is frustrating, but it's actually within their normal processing timeframe. While some payments process same-day, EDD's official policy is that disability payments can take up to 10 days to process after certification. The immediate processing you experienced before was actually faster than their standard timeframe. What likely happened is they're experiencing higher claim volumes or have implemented additional verification steps. Here are some things that might help: 1. Make sure your address and bank information are up to date in your SDI Online account 2. Check that you haven't received any notices requiring additional information 3. Verify your certification doesn't have any errors or inconsistencies that might trigger a review 4. Try certifying earlier in the day (before noon) as processing often begins in batches If you need to speak with a representative, call right when they open at 8:00 AM. That's usually the best time to get through.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I didn't realize same-day processing wasn't actually their standard policy! I've already verified all my account info is correct, and I'm certifying at the same time I always have (around 8am). I guess I just got spoiled with the quick payments before. I'll try calling right at 8am tomorrow.

I went through the exact same thing back in January when I was on disability for my shoulder surgery. The payment delays started suddenly after months of same-day processing. After calling repeatedly, I finally spoke with a supervisor who explained they implemented new fraud detection measures that occasionally flag accounts for additional review, especially if you've been on disability for several months. The supervisor manually released my pending payment and noted my account so future certifications wouldn't get flagged. Since then, my payments went back to processing within 24 hours. You NEED to speak with a supervisor specifically - regular agents often can't override these holds. Be persistent and explicitly ask for a supervisor review of your payment delays.

This is super helpful! I've been on disability for almost 6 months now, so maybe that's why mine suddenly started getting flagged. I'll specifically ask for a supervisor when I call tomorrow morning.

IS ANYONE ELSE NOTICING THAT EDD IS GETTING WORSE EVERY YEAR?!?! I've been through disability claims in 2021, 2023 and now 2025 and each time the system gets MORE broken, MORE delayed, and MORE impossible to contact anyone!! I'm convinced they're DELIBERATELY making the system difficult so people give up and they save money. My neighbor works for the state (not EDD) and she says they're massively understaffed and using outdated systems from like 15 years ago. Wouldn't be surprised if they're still running Windows 7 or something ridiculous.

Yesss!!! The whole system is falling apart! I waited 9 weeks to get my first payment this year. NINE WEEKS! Last time I was on disability in 2022, it took only 2 weeks. Something is seriously wrong with how they're running things.

Quick update - certification went through today after 6 days of waiting. Still no explanation for the delays but at least I got paid.

That's a relief! Mine just got deposited too (finally). I'm definitely going to call tomorrow anyway to try to prevent this from happening again next time.

Just wanted to follow up - after using Claimyr to get through to an agent yesterday, they actually explained that there's a new claims review process that kicks in after you've been on disability for more than 4 months. The agent was able to override the delay on my current payment and put a note in my file so future payments should process faster. Definitely worth the call!

This is accurate information. EDD implemented enhanced review procedures for long-term disability claims (typically 4+ months) in late 2024. These additional verification steps are designed to reduce fraud but unfortunately add processing time. Having a note added to your account by a supervisor can help expedite future payments by essentially pre-verifying your claim status.
