Faxing? What year is it, 1995? 😂

Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your attempts to contact them. 2. Check your spam folder regularly. Sometimes important emails end up there. 3. Reach out to your local state representative. They can sometimes expedite claims. 4. If you're really desperate, consider the paid calling service mentioned earlier. 5. Join Facebook groups for unemployment support. They often have insider tips. 6. Don't give up! The system is designed to wear you down, but persistence pays off. Remember, you're not alone in this. The EDD is swamped, but that's no excuse for leaving people hanging. Stay strong! 💪
Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start with documenting everything and checking my spam folder. Fingers crossed 🤞

This is gold 💯 Mods should pin this comment!

lol remember when we thought adulting would be fun? now we're all here trying to figure out government paperwork 😂
Right? I miss the days when my biggest worry was what to wear to school 😭

Does anyone know if theres a way to check the status of your application online? Or do we just have to wait for snail mail?
You can check the status on the SDI Online portal. Just log in and go to 'Claim Status'.
6M
Oh awesome, thanks! Cant believe I missed that 🤦♂️
6M
ugh why is everything so complicated? cant they just pay us what were owed without all this hassle?
PSA: Always, ALWAYS keep copies of everything you submit. It's saved my butt more than once when dealing with EDD.
This should be pinned at the top of the sub tbh

Unpopular opinion: maybe try going to an EDD office in person? I know it's a pain, but I had success doing this when my online claim was stuck for weeks.
Wait, you can do that? I thought everything was online/phone only now
6M
Some offices have reopened for in-person services. Check the EDD website for locations near you. It's not available everywhere, but worth a shot if you have one nearby!

Pro tip: Set up direct deposit if you haven't already. It's usually faster than waiting for the funds to load onto the EDD debit card. Plus, you can avoid those annoying ATM fees. Just go to your EDD account online and look for the direct deposit option.
This! 💯 Direct deposit is the way to go. I get my funds way faster now.

Does anyone know if you can set up direct deposit to a prepaid card? My bank account is overdrawn and I don't want them to take my unemployment money 😬

Hang in there, OP! We're all in the same boat. The system is broken, but we gotta keep pushing through. Don't be afraid to be persistent with EDD. Sometimes you have to be a squeaky wheel to get the grease, ya know? Keep us updated on what happens!
Thanks for the encouragement! I'll definitely keep everyone posted. Hopefully it's resolved soon 🤞

Anyone else feel like the whole system is designed to make us give up? It's like they don't want to pay out benefits we're entitled to 🤔
Conspiracy theory much? 🙄 It's just underfunded and outdated.
6M
Underfunded by choice. They could fix it if they wanted to.

Hang in there, OP. I know it's tough, but keep trying. Took me weeks to get my issue resolved, but it finally happened. Don't give up!
Pro tip: if you can't get through on the main line, try calling some of the other departments. Sometimes they can transfer you internally and it's way faster than waiting on the general queue.
This is genius! 🧠 Never thought of that. Any specific departments you'd recommend trying?
6M
I've had luck with the tax department and the general info line. Just be super polite and explain your situation - most people are willing to help if you're nice about it.

Unpopular opinion: sometimes it's faster to just pay the overpayment and then request a refund later. Worked for me when I was in a similar situation last year.
Idk man, that sounds risky. What if they don't refund you?
6M
Fair point. It definitely depends on your financial situation. For me, it was worth it to get them off my back while I sorted out the paperwork. But yeah, not for everyone.
6M
unpopular opinion: maybe try going to an actual EDD office in person? I know it's a pain, but sometimes face-to-face is the only way to get things done with these bureaucrats.
Do they even allow walk-ins anymore? I thought everything was appointment only now.
6M
Oh shoot, you might be right. It's been a while since I had to deal with them. Maybe worth calling to check?
6M
guys. i figured it out. u gotta sacrifice a goat under a full moon while chanting the california state anthem. works every time 💯
Instructions unclear. Sacrificed my California state anthem CD under a full goat. Still no check. Please advise.
6M
lmaooo 🤣 u gotta use a LIVE goat bro. rookie mistake

This happened to my cousin last month. Turns out it was a glitch in their system. Keep pushing and don't give up!
Oh wow, that's good to know. Did they fix it quickly for your cousin?
6M
It took about 2 weeks of back and forth, but they eventually sorted it out. Just stay on top of it!
6M
Have you tried reaching out to your local state representative? Sometimes they can help cut through the red tape.
This! 👆 I did this and it actually worked. They have staff dedicated to helping with state agency issues.

I had this issue last month. Turns out there was a flag on my account for potential fraud (I hadn't done anything wrong). Had to upload additional docs to verify my identity. Might be worth checking if that's your problem too.
