MOHELA payment taken from bank but not showing on account - help!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with MOHELA. I made a payment on my unsubsidized loan a few days ago, and the money was taken out of my bank account, but it's not showing up on my MOHELA account. Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm worried because it's a pretty big payment and I don't want it to get lost in the system. Any advice on how to handle this?

Ugh, MOHELA strikes again! 🙄 I swear they're always messing something up. Have you tried calling them yet? Be prepared to wait on hold for like 3 hours tho lol

•Not yet, I'm dreading the hold time. But I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and call them tomorrow. Any tips for getting through faster?

•Nah, its pretty much just a waiting game. Maybe try calling right when they open? Good luck, hope you get it sorted!

I had the exact same issue last month! It's super frustrating, but don't panic. Here's what I did: 1. Double-check your bank statement to make sure the payment went through on your end. 2. Log into your MOHELA account and look for any pending transactions. 3. If you don't see anything, call MOHELA customer service (be prepared for a long wait). 4. When you get through, explain the situation calmly and ask them to check for any pending or unprocessed payments. 5. If they can't find it, ask them to escalate the issue and get a case number. 6. Follow up via email so you have a paper trail. It took about a week, but they eventually found my payment and applied it correctly. Hang in there!

•Thank you so much for this detailed response! It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one who's dealt with this. I'll definitely follow these steps.

•This is solid advice. I'd add: take screenshots of everything, including your bank statement. You never know when you might need proof.

Have you tried checking your spam folder for a confirmation email? Sometimes MOHELA's emails end up there for me.

•Guys, let's not assume malice. They're probably just understaffed and overworked. Still sucks for us tho.

I found a method to get someone on the phone quickly. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/kfgsWnbb8cU

•Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? How long did you have to wait?

•It worked great for me! I only waited about 5 minutes after they connected me. Saved me hours of hold time.

•$20 seems steep just to make a phone call. Is it really worth it?

•For me, it was totally worth it. Time is money, and I didn't have to waste half my day on hold. Plus, I got my issue resolved quickly.

This happened to me once, turns out I accidentally paid to my old loan servicer instead of MOHELA. Double-check that you used the right account info!

•Oh man, I didn't even think of that possibility. I'll definitely check. Thanks for the tip!

Have you tried reaching out to MOHELA on social media? Sometimes they're more responsive there. Worth a shot!

Oof, MOHELA and their payment shenanigans. Classic. 🙄 Hang in there, OP. You're definitely not alone in this struggle.

This is such a common issue with MOHELA unfortunately! I went through something similar a few months back. One thing that helped me was logging into my bank account and taking a screenshot of the transaction with the date, amount, and reference number. When I finally got through to MOHELA (took forever on hold), having that info ready made the process go much smoother. They were able to track down my payment using the reference number. Also, if you have online banking, check if there's a "transaction details" section that shows where exactly the payment went - sometimes the routing info can help them locate it faster. Hope you get it sorted out soon!

•This is really helpful advice! I never thought about getting the reference number from my bank's transaction details. That's a great tip for anyone dealing with payment issues. Thanks for sharing your experience - it gives me hope that this will get resolved!

I've been there too! This exact thing happened to me about 6 months ago and it was so stressful. What ended up working for me was calling MOHELA first thing in the morning (like right at 8 AM when they open) and having all my documentation ready - bank statement showing the deduction, confirmation number if I had one, and the exact date/amount. It took about 3 business days for them to locate the payment and apply it to my account. In the meantime, I also sent them a secure message through their website with all the details and attached a screenshot of my bank statement. Sometimes having multiple touchpoints helps move things along. Don't worry, your payment isn't lost - it's just probably sitting in some processing queue somewhere. Stay persistent and you'll get it sorted out!

•Thanks for sharing your experience! It's really reassuring to hear from someone who went through the exact same thing. I like the idea of multiple touchpoints - calling AND sending a secure message. That way there's a paper trail and hopefully better chances of getting help. I'm definitely going to try calling right at 8 AM tomorrow and have all my documentation ready. Did you have to follow up multiple times or did they get back to you pretty quickly after you contacted them?

I just went through this exact same nightmare with MOHELA last week! The stress is unreal when you see money leave your account but it's like it vanished into thin air on their end. Here's what worked for me: I called them at exactly 8 AM (set an alarm!) and had everything ready - bank statement screenshot, transaction reference number, the works. The rep was actually really helpful once I got through. She found my payment in their "unposted transactions" queue and said it happens more often than you'd think, especially with electronic payments. It took about 24 hours to show up in my account after she manually processed it. Also, definitely send that secure message through their portal like others mentioned - I did both and I think it helped expedite things. You're going to get this sorted out, just stay on top of them!

•This gives me so much hope! I'm dealing with the exact same thing right now and was starting to panic. The "unposted transactions" queue makes total sense - glad to know there's actually a place these payments go when they get stuck. I'm definitely setting that 8 AM alarm and getting all my documentation together tonight. Did you happen to get any kind of confirmation number or case reference when they manually processed it? Just want to make sure I ask for that if I get through to someone helpful like you did!

This is such a frustrating situation but you're definitely not alone! I had a similar issue with MOHELA about 8 months ago where my payment disappeared into the void. What saved me was keeping detailed records of everything - I screenshotted my bank statement showing the withdrawal, saved any confirmation emails or numbers, and even took photos of my payment setup on their website before submitting. When I finally got through to customer service (after what felt like an eternity on hold), having all that documentation made the rep take me seriously right away. They were able to track it down within their system using my bank's routing information. One tip I learned: if you made the payment through their website, check your browser history for any confirmation pages you might have missed saving. Sometimes those pages have tracking numbers that can help them locate payments faster. Hang in there - these payment hiccups seem to happen more than they should, but they do get resolved eventually!

•This is such great advice about keeping detailed records! I'm actually going through a similar payment issue right now and I wish I had thought to screenshot everything before submitting. The browser history tip is genius - I never would have thought to check that. It's honestly crazy how common this seems to be with MOHELA. Makes me wonder if there's something wrong with their payment processing system. Thanks for sharing your experience, it really helps to know that these situations do get resolved even when it feels hopeless!

I'm going through this exact same thing right now! Made a payment three days ago and it's like it just disappeared. Seeing everyone's experiences here is actually really reassuring - I was starting to think I was going crazy. I'm definitely going to try the 8 AM call strategy with all my documentation ready. Has anyone had success with their live chat feature, or is calling really the only way to get this resolved? Also, should I be worried about any late fees while this gets sorted out?

•I tried their live chat for a similar issue and honestly, it was pretty useless. The chat agents seem to have limited access and kept telling me to call. Phone is definitely the way to go. As for late fees, most people here seem to say MOHELA won't charge them while they're investigating a missing payment, but I'd mention it specifically when you call just to be safe. Document that you asked about it too! Good luck - sounds like you've got a solid plan with the 8 AM call and documentation ready.

I'm dealing with this exact issue right now too! It's so frustrating when you do everything right but the payment just seems to vanish. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been really helpful though. I'm planning to call first thing tomorrow morning with all my bank documentation ready. One thing I wanted to add - has anyone had luck disputing the charge with their bank while waiting for MOHELA to sort things out? I'm wondering if that might put pressure on them to resolve it faster, or if it could actually make things more complicated. Also, does anyone know if there's a specific department at MOHELA that handles these missing payment issues, or do you just go through regular customer service? Thanks to everyone sharing their stories - it really helps to know we're not alone in this!

•I wouldn't recommend disputing with your bank just yet - that could actually complicate things and make MOHELA's investigation harder. From what I've seen in similar situations, it's better to let MOHELA resolve it first since the payment did go through, it's just not showing up in their system. As for departments, regular customer service should be able to help - they have access to track payments across different processing queues. Just make sure to ask for a case number when you call so you can reference it in follow-ups. The 8 AM strategy really does work better than calling later in the day!

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this! I went through the exact same thing about 2 months ago and it was incredibly stressful. The good news is that your payment isn't lost - it's most likely sitting in their processing system somewhere. Here's what worked for me: I called MOHELA at exactly 8 AM when they opened (way shorter hold time), and I had everything ready - screenshot of my bank statement showing the deduction, the exact date and amount, and any confirmation numbers. The representative was able to find my payment in what she called their "pending transactions" queue and manually applied it to my account within 24 hours. I also sent a secure message through their website with all the same information as backup. Pro tip: if you made the payment online, check your email for ANY confirmation - even if it seems unrelated, it might have a reference number they can use to track it down. Don't panic, this happens way more often than it should with MOHELA, but they will find your payment and get it sorted out!

•Thank you for sharing this! It's such a relief to hear from someone who went through the exact same situation and got it resolved. The "pending transactions" queue seems to be where a lot of these missing payments end up based on what everyone's saying. I really appreciate the tip about checking email for ANY confirmation - I didn't think about that but you're right, even something that seems unrelated might have a tracking number. The 8 AM call strategy seems to be the consensus here, so I'm definitely setting my alarm tonight. It's honestly just so reassuring to know that this is a known issue and not something unique to my situation. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience!

This thread is incredibly helpful! I'm actually dealing with this exact same issue right now - made a payment 4 days ago and it's nowhere to be found on my MOHELA account despite being deducted from my bank. Reading everyone's experiences here has honestly saved my sanity because I was starting to think I did something wrong. The consensus seems clear: call at 8 AM sharp with all documentation ready (bank statement screenshot, transaction details, any confirmation info). I love that so many people mentioned the "pending transactions" or "unposted transactions" queue - it makes total sense that there's a limbo area where these payments get stuck. I'm setting my alarm for 7:45 AM tomorrow and getting everything organized tonight. It's both frustrating and comforting to know this is such a common issue with MOHELA. Thanks to everyone for sharing your stories and solutions - this community is awesome for helping each other navigate these loan servicer headaches! 🙏

•Glad this thread could help ease your stress! I went through something similar about a year ago and felt the same way - like I must have done something wrong. The 8 AM strategy really is a game changer, and having all your docs ready makes such a difference. One small tip to add: when you get through to someone, ask them to email you a summary of what they found and the steps they're taking. It creates a paper trail and gives you something to reference if you need to call back. Hope you get it sorted out quickly tomorrow! Keep us posted on how it goes 💪

This is such a stressful situation but you're definitely not alone! I went through something very similar about 3 months ago where my payment just vanished into thin air. What worked for me was calling MOHELA right at 8 AM with all my documentation ready - bank statement screenshot, transaction reference number, date and amount. The rep found my payment stuck in their processing system and got it applied within 2 days. Also definitely send a secure message through their portal with all the same info as backup. I know the hold times are brutal, but don't give up! Your payment isn't lost, it's probably just sitting in their "pending transactions" queue waiting to be processed. Make sure to get a case number when you call so you can reference it if you need to follow up. Hang in there - this gets resolved way more often than you'd think! 💪

•This is exactly what I needed to hear! I'm actually in the middle of this nightmare right now - payment went through 2 days ago but MOHELA is acting like it never happened. The "pending transactions" queue explanation makes so much sense and gives me hope that my money isn't just gone forever. I'm definitely doing the 8 AM call tomorrow with everything organized. Quick question though - when you say "got it applied within 2 days," did you have to call back or did they proactively fix it once you reported it? Just trying to set my expectations for how hands-on I need to be with following up. Thanks for sharing your experience - it really helps to know this actually gets resolved! 🤞

This exact thing happened to me about 6 weeks ago and I totally understand the panic! My payment disappeared for almost a full week. Here's what I learned: MOHELA's payment processing system has some serious glitches, but your money isn't gone. When I finally got through to someone (used the 8 AM strategy everyone's mentioning), they explained that electronic payments sometimes get "stuck" in their system and need to be manually pushed through. The rep I talked to said it's happening more frequently lately due to some backend system updates they've been doing. She was able to find my payment immediately once I gave her my bank's confirmation number. One thing I'd add to all the great advice here - if you bank with a credit union or smaller bank, sometimes their payment processing codes don't play nice with MOHELA's system, which can cause these delays. The good news is once they locate it, it usually gets applied within 24-48 hours. Don't stress too much, this is definitely a "them" problem, not a "you" problem!

•This is really insightful about the backend system issues! It makes me feel so much better knowing there's an actual technical reason for these payment glitches and it's not just random incompetence. The credit union detail is super helpful too - I actually do bank with a smaller local credit union, so that might explain why my payment got stuck. It's honestly reassuring to hear from someone who went through this recently and that the rep was upfront about it being a known issue on their end. I'm feeling much more confident about my 8 AM call tomorrow now. Thanks for sharing the behind-the-scenes info - it really helps to understand what's actually happening with our payments instead of just wondering if they're lost forever! 🙏

This is such a common and frustrating issue with MOHELA! I went through the exact same thing about 4 months ago and felt like I was losing my mind. The payment showed up as processed on my bank's end but was completely invisible on MOHELA's website. Here's what worked for me: I called them right at 8 AM when they opened (seriously, set an alarm - the wait times are SO much better early morning) and had all my documentation ready - bank statement screenshot showing the withdrawal, transaction reference number, exact date and amount. The customer service rep was actually really helpful and found my payment in what she called their "unprocessed electronic payments" queue. Apparently this happens more than they'd like to admit, especially with certain banks. She was able to manually push it through and it showed up on my account within 24 hours. Also definitely send a secure message through their website portal with all the same info as backup - having multiple contact points seems to help move things along. Your payment isn't lost, it's just stuck in their system somewhere! Stay persistent and you'll get it sorted out. Good luck! 🤞
