What day do I file unemployment weekly claim in Washington ESD?

I just got approved for unemployment benefits after waiting 3 weeks for adjudication to clear up. Now I'm confused about when exactly I'm supposed to file my weekly claims. The letter from Washington ESD says I can file starting Sunday but doesn't specify what day of the week is best. Should I file right away on Sunday or wait until later in the week? Does it matter what day I choose as long as it's before the deadline?

You can file anytime starting Sunday through Saturday for that week's claim. Most people file on Sunday mornings when the system is less busy.

Thanks! So there's no advantage to filing on a specific day?

0 coins

Nope, just make sure you don't miss the Saturday deadline or you'll have to wait until the next filing period.

0 coins

I always file on Sundays right when the system opens. Less chance of technical issues and you get it done early in the week.

same here, sunday morning routine for me

0 coins

Good point about the technical issues. I'll try Sunday morning then.

I've been trying to file my weekly claims but keep getting error messages on the Washington ESD website. Been calling for days but can't get through to anyone at the phone number. This is so frustrating!

Have you tried using Claimyr? It's a service that helps you get through to Washington ESD agents. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Really helped me when I was stuck in a similar situation.

Filing day doesn't matter but MAKE SURE you're answering the job search questions correctly. Washington ESD requires 3 job contacts per week now and they audit those records.

0 coins

Wait, 3 job contacts? I thought it was just that I had to be available for work.

0 coins

No, you need to actively search for work and log 3 job contacts unless you're on standby status or exempt for some other reason.

0 coins

This is news to me too. Where do we log these job contacts?

0 coins

The job search requirement is through WorkSourceWA website. You have to create an account there and log your job search activities.

0 coins

Ugh, another website to deal with. Why can't they just keep everything on the Washington ESD site?

0 coins

I know it's annoying but that's how the system works. Better to follow the rules than risk getting disqualified.

been filing thursdays for months, never had any problems

0 coins

Thursday works fine too. The key is just being consistent and not missing the Saturday cutoff.

Update: I tried that Claimyr thing someone mentioned and actually got through to a Washington ESD agent in like 15 minutes. They fixed my weekly claim filing issue - turns out there was a flag on my account from the adjudication process that needed to be cleared.

0 coins

That's awesome! Good to know there's actually a way to reach someone when you need help.

0 coins

Wait, what's this Claimyr thing? I've been trying to reach Washington ESD for weeks about an overpayment notice.

0 coins

It's a service that helps you get through to Washington ESD phone lines. Check claimyr.com - they have a demo video that explains how it works.

I file mine on Wednesday evenings usually. Gives me time to think about my job search activities from the week and make sure I have everything documented properly.

0 coins

That's smart. Taking time to review your job search log before filing is a good habit.

0 coins

I should probably start keeping better track of my job search activities too.

0 coins

Does anyone know if the day you file affects when you get paid? I filed last Sunday and still haven't seen my payment.

0 coins

Filing day doesn't affect payment timing. Washington ESD processes payments on Tuesdays and Wednesdays usually. If you filed Sunday, you should see payment by Wednesday or Thursday.

0 coins

It's been over a week now. Should I be worried?

0 coins

Yeah, if it's been over a week you should definitely call Washington ESD to check your claim status.

THE WASHINGTON ESD SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!! I've been trying to file for 3 days and keep getting kicked out of the website. This is ridiculous - people need their benefits to survive!

0 coins

I feel your frustration. Try clearing your browser cache and cookies, then try again. Sometimes that fixes the technical issues.

0 coins

I've tried everything! Different browsers, different devices, nothing works!

0 coins

If you can't get the website to work, you might want to try calling through Claimyr. That's how I got help when I had similar technical problems.

0 coins

I work part-time and wasn't sure if I needed to file weekly claims. Turns out I do, even though I'm working some hours. The partial benefits calculation is confusing but at least I know I need to file every week now.

0 coins

Yes, you have to file even if you work part-time. Washington ESD will calculate your partial benefits based on your earnings for that week.

0 coins

The earnings calculation seems complicated. Is there a simple way to figure out how much I'll get?

0 coins

There's a partial benefits calculator on the Washington ESD website, but basically they reduce your benefits dollar-for-dollar after you earn more than your weekly benefit amount.

0 coins

Quick question - if I forget to file one week, can I go back and file it later?

0 coins

You have a limited time to file missed weeks. I think it's within 4 weeks of the original filing period, but you should call Washington ESD to confirm.

0 coins

Thanks, I'll call if I need to. Just wanted to know in case I forget sometime.

Been on unemployment for 6 months now and I always file Saturday mornings. Gives me the whole week to handle any job search activities and I never have to worry about missing the deadline.

0 coins

Saturday filing makes sense for the deadline worry. I think I'll go with Sunday mornings like others suggested though.

0 coins

Whatever works for you! The important thing is being consistent and not missing weeks.

0 coins

Does filing early in the week vs late in the week affect anything? I usually procrastinate until Friday night.

0 coins

Timing within the week doesn't matter for your benefits, but filing earlier gives you more time to fix any issues if they come up.

0 coins

Good point. Maybe I should stop procrastinating on this stuff.

0 coins

I had to miss filing one week because I was in the hospital. When I got out, I called Washington ESD and they let me file the missed week. Just had to explain the circumstances.

0 coins

Good to know they're understanding about legitimate emergencies. Hope you're feeling better!

0 coins

Thanks! Yeah, they were actually pretty helpful once I got through to someone.

0 coins

For anyone still having trouble reaching Washington ESD by phone, I second the Claimyr recommendation. Used it twice now when I needed to speak with an agent about claim issues. Much better than the endless busy signals.

0 coins

How much does something like that cost?

0 coins

I'd rather not get into specific costs, but it was worth it for me given how much time I was wasting trying to call on my own.

0 coins

This whole thread has been really helpful! I was overthinking the filing day thing. Sounds like as long as I file somewhere between Sunday and Saturday I'm good. I'll probably go with Sunday mornings.

0 coins

That's exactly right. Pick a day that works for your schedule and stick with it. Sunday mornings are a popular choice for a reason.

0 coins

Same here! This cleared up a lot of my confusion about the weekly filing process.
