When do I file weekly unemployment claim with Washington ESD?
I just got approved for unemployment benefits after waiting through adjudication for almost a month. Now I'm confused about the weekly claim filing schedule. Do I file every Sunday? Or is it based on when I first filed my initial claim? The Washington ESD website mentions something about filing during your designated week but I can't figure out what that means for my situation. Also, do I need to wait a full week before filing my first weekly claim or can I file right away?

You file your weekly claim every Sunday for the previous week. It doesn't matter what day you got approved - everyone files on Sunday. Your first weekly claim should cover the week you were eligible, which starts from when your claim was approved.

•So I file this Sunday for last week even though I just got approved on Wednesday?

AstroAce
•Exactly. The weekly claim covers Sunday through Saturday, so you'd report any work or job search activities for those days.

I was confused about this too when I first started. You have to file every week by 11:59 PM on Sunday or you might lose that week's benefits. Don't skip weeks thinking you can catch up later.

•What happens if I miss the Sunday deadline? Is there any way to file late?

•You can sometimes file late but you have to call Washington ESD and explain why. It's a huge hassle though, better to just set a reminder.

When I couldn't get through to Washington ESD about my weekly claim questions, I used Claimyr to actually reach an agent. They have this system at claimyr.com that gets you through the phone queue automatically. There's even a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. The agent I talked to explained the whole weekly filing schedule perfectly.

•How much does that cost? I've been trying to call for days about my claim status.

•It's worth it when you actually need to talk to someone. Way better than spending hours on hold or getting disconnected.

•I've heard of this service but wasn't sure if it was legit. Good to know it actually works for getting through to Washington ESD.

Make sure you understand what to report on your weekly claim. You need to list all work hours and gross pay, any job search activities, and answer the eligibility questions honestly. The job search requirement is 3 employer contacts per week unless you're on standby.

•Wait, what's standby status? I keep seeing this mentioned but don't understand it.

Zara Ahmed
•Standby means you have a definite return-to-work date with your employer. If you're on standby, you don't have to do job searches but you still file weekly claims.

The timing is Sunday but what time zone? I'm working nights and sometimes I'm not sure if I should file Saturday night or wait until Sunday morning.

•It's Pacific Time since Washington ESD is based in Washington state. So 11:59 PM PT on Sunday is the deadline.

•Thanks! That makes sense, I was overthinking it.

I missed filing for two weeks when I first started because I thought I had to wait for some kind of notification. Nobody tells you that you just need to log into your account every Sunday and file. Lost those weeks of benefits permanently.

•That's terrible! So there's no automatic reminder or anything?

Nia Thompson
•Nope, you're supposed to just know. Set a phone alarm or calendar reminder - don't make my mistake.

•This is why the unemployment system is so frustrating. They expect you to know all these rules without explaining them clearly.

Pro tip: file your weekly claim early on Sunday, like in the morning. The system sometimes gets overloaded later in the day and you might have trouble accessing it near the deadline.

•Good advice. I've had the website crash on me before when trying to file Sunday evening.

Aisha Abdullah
•Exactly. Better to get it done early and not stress about technical issues.

Does anyone know if you can file weekly claims from your phone? The Washington ESD website is hard to navigate on mobile.

Yuki Tanaka
•Yeah you can use your phone but it's definitely easier on a computer. The mobile version is pretty clunky.

•I'll try to use my laptop then. Thanks for the heads up.

Just to clarify for everyone - you file weekly claims for unemployment insurance (UI) benefits every Sunday. This applies whether you're on regular UI, standby status, or any other type of unemployment claim through Washington ESD. The only exception is if you're in adjudication, then you wait until that's resolved.

•What about people who are partially unemployed? Same schedule?
0 coins
Carmen Diaz
•Yes, same Sunday filing schedule. You just report your partial work hours and earnings on the weekly claim.

I tried using that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier and it actually worked great. Got through to a Washington ESD agent in about 20 minutes instead of the usual hours of busy signals. They answered all my questions about weekly claim filing and even helped me understand my benefit amount calculation.

•Did they charge you right away or only if you get connected?

Emily Jackson
•I think you only pay when they actually connect you to an agent. Much better than wasting my whole day trying to call.

For anyone still confused about the weekly claim schedule - think of it like this: every Sunday you're reporting what happened in the previous week (Sunday to Saturday). So this Sunday you report last Sunday through last Saturday's activities.

Jacob Smithson
•That's a really clear way to explain it. The week you're reporting is always the week that just ended.

Omar Zaki
•This helps a lot! So I always file on Sunday for the week that ended yesterday. Got it.

Important reminder - if you work ANY hours during the week, even just a few, you must report them on your weekly claim. Washington ESD can cross-reference with employer payroll data, so don't risk getting caught in an overpayment situation.

•What counts as work? Like if I do a one-day gig or freelance project?

Isabella Brown
•Any work for pay counts, including freelance, gig work, odd jobs, everything. Better to report it than get hit with fraud allegations later.

The job search requirement is 3 contacts per week and you need to keep a log. Don't just put down random companies - they sometimes verify these during audits.

•How detailed does the job search log need to be?

•Company name, date, method of contact, and position applied for. Keep it simple but accurate.

One thing that tripped me up - if you start a new job mid-week, you still need to file your weekly claim for that week showing the days you worked and the days you were unemployed. Don't just stop filing claims without properly closing out your unemployment.

Ethan Anderson
•So you report the partial week and then what? Do you file another claim the next Sunday?
0 coins
Ava Kim
•If you're fully employed, you just stop filing after that final partial week. If it's part-time work, you keep filing and reporting the hours.

Has anyone had issues with the Washington ESD website being down on Sundays? I've had trouble accessing it a few times right when I needed to file.

•Yeah, sometimes there's maintenance or high traffic. That's why filing early in the day is smart.

•If the site is down, you can try calling to file by phone, but good luck getting through without something like that Claimyr service.

Quick reminder that Washington ESD sends payments on Tuesdays if you file your weekly claim on time Sunday. So file Sunday, get paid Tuesday (if eligible). Miss the Sunday deadline and you're looking at delays and potential lost benefits.

Chloe Boulanger
•Is the Tuesday payment for everyone or does it depend on when you first filed?
0 coins
Noah Ali
•Tuesday is the standard payment day for everyone who files their weekly claim on Sunday. Pretty consistent schedule.

After going through this whole process, my advice is to treat Sunday weekly claim filing like paying a bill - same time every week, never skip it, always complete and accurate. Set up whatever reminders you need because the system doesn't forgive missed deadlines easily.

•Great analogy. I'm setting a weekly phone alarm right now.

•This whole thread has been super helpful. I feel much more confident about the weekly filing process now.

One more thing to add - if you're new to filing weekly claims, don't panic if your first payment seems delayed. Sometimes there's an additional processing period for your very first claim even after you've been approved. As long as you're filing every Sunday on time, you should get all your eligible weeks eventually. I learned this the hard way when I kept calling Washington ESD thinking something was wrong, but my first payment just took an extra few days to process.
