Week suddenly under adjudication after submitting work search - will ESD stop all my payments?

I've been on UI for about 6 weeks and everything was going fine until now. Last week ESD asked me to provide my work search activities from my 3rd week of claims (totally random?). I submitted all 3 job contacts through eServices right away. Then I got some weird screen mentioning possible overpayment which freaked me out. I just logged in today to check if there was an update, and now it shows my 3rd week is "under adjudication" with no explanation. Has anyone dealt with this before? I'm supposed to get paid tomorrow for my most recent week - will this adjudication thing block ALL my future payments while they investigate the old week? I can't afford to suddenly have everything stop! My rent is due next week and I'm counting on this money.

Yep, ESD randomly audits work search activities. Happened to me twice last year. The overpayment warning is just their standard scare tactic. If your job search activities weren't sufficient or properly documented, they might disqualify that ONE week and create an overpayment for just that week's benefits. BUT they shouldn't stop your ongoing payments unless they think there's a pattern of fraud. Keep filing your weekly claims while this is being resolved!

Thank god! I was having a panic attack thinking ALL my benefits would stop. My job contacts were legit, but I might not have included every single detail they wanted. How long did your adjudication take to resolve?

hppened to me too. took 3 weeks to fix and they DID stop my payments the whole time!! so frustrating!!

Oh no!!! That's exactly what I'm afraid of. Did you have to do anything special to get it resolved or did they just eventually fix it on their own?

The random work search audit is standard procedure - they're required to verify a percentage of claims. If your 3rd week is under adjudication, that specific week's payment might be held, but technically it shouldn't affect your current weeks. HOWEVER, in practice, ESD systems sometimes put a hold on everything until the issue is resolved. You should: 1. Keep filing weekly claims no matter what 2. Check your notifications in eServices for any requests for additional information 3. Call ESD directly to ask about the status and whether your current payments will continue Be prepared that you might need to provide additional documentation about those job searches.

Thanks for the detailed info! I'll definitely keep filing. I checked my eServices notifications and there's nothing there asking for more info, just the adjudication status. I've been trying to call ESD but can't get through - constant busy signals or it just disconnects me after the automated menu.

If ur work search activities didnt meet requirements they'll disqualify that week and maybe make u pay back that $. but ur other weeks should be fine unless theres other issues too. but yeah ESD can be really slow with adjudication sometimes

When I had a week go into adjudication last year, I couldn't get through to ESD by phone either - tried for DAYS. I finally used this service called Claimyr that got me through to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes (they basically keep dialing for you until they get through). Cost some money but was worth it to get answers immediately. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent told me exactly why my week was flagged and what I needed to submit to fix it. Honestly saved me weeks of anxiety.

That's really helpful, thank you! I might try that service if I don't see any movement by Friday. I really need to find out if my current payments will keep coming while they review that old week.

ALWAYS KEEP DETAILED RECORDS of every single job contact!!! Name, position, company, address, phone, email, website, contact person, application method, follow-up steps, EVERYTHING. ESD is looking for reasons to deny benefits and create overpayments. They're not on your side!!!! I learned this the hard way when they disqualified THREE of my weeks because I couldn't provide enough details about applications I submitted online. The system is designed to trip you up!

This is a bit of an exaggeration. ESD isn't "out to get" anyone, they're just required by law to verify that people are actually looking for work. They don't make money from denials or overpayments. But yes, keeping detailed records is good advice.

FYI - the adjudication doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem with your work search. It just means they're reviewing it. If your contacts were legitimate and you can document them, you should be fine. And like others said, keep filing weekly claims no matter what.

UPDATE: I just got an email from ESD saying I need to provide additional documentation for the job contacts from that week. They want company addresses and contact names, which I didn't include originally. I'm gathering that info now. Still no answer about whether my current payments will be affected, but at least I know what they need now. Thanks everyone for your help!

Good news! That's a straightforward request. Once you provide that additional documentation, the adjudication should resolve relatively quickly. In my experience, if there's no issue with your current weeks, your payments should continue while they sort out that specific week. Get that documentation in ASAP though!
