Got paid after disqualification but now facing adjudication - will ESD still pay my weekly claim?
Finally got some good news after weeks of stress! ESD just paid me for 5 weeks of unemployment that were previously disqualified (about $4,200 total). But now my eServices account is showing 'adjudication in progress' for some reason. I'm confused because I thought everything was resolved when they paid me. Will this new adjudication stop my upcoming payment? I'm filing my weekly claim this weekend and really can't afford another interruption. Has anyone dealt with getting paid and then immediately going into adjudication? I'm worried they'll want the money back or something.

Congrats on getting your payments! But yeah, adjudication is tricky. When I was on UI last year, I had something similar happen. The adjudication could be about something completely different from what got resolved. It could be about your job search activities, availability for work, or maybe they're verifying something about your previous employer. Did you get any notices in your eServices inbox?

Thanks! No messages in my inbox at all, that's why I'm so confused. The disqualification was because my employer challenged my claim saying I quit, but I proved I was laid off. No idea what this new adjudication could be about.

The fact that they paid you for those 5 weeks is a good sign! Sometimes ESD runs multiple adjudications on different issues. You should still file your weekly claim as normal this weekend - they might pay it while the adjudication is ongoing, especially if it's about a different issue than what was just resolved. Check your 'Pending Issues' tab on eServices to see if it tells you what the adjudication is about (separation, able and available, job search, etc).

Thank you! I'll check the Pending Issues tab. So you think I should still get paid even with the adjudication going on? That would be such a relief.

Yes, often they'll continue payments while investigating unless the adjudication is directly related to your current eligibility. If the adjudication is about something from the past or a technical issue, payments usually continue. The Pending Issues tab should give you some clues.

Oh no, that's exactly what I'm afraid of! Did they at least explain why you went into adjudication after they resolved it?

I would recommend calling ESD directly to ask about the new adjudication issue. Sometimes these are just routine system flags that can be quickly resolved if you speak with the right agent. But getting through to ESD can be nearly impossible with their phone system.\n\nI recently discovered a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me skip the ESD phone queue. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3\n\nIt got me connected to an ESD agent who could see notes in my account that weren't visible to me online. The agent was able to clear up my adjudication issue in minutes once I explained my situation.

Oh wow, I hadn't heard of that. I've been trying to call for days with no luck. I'll check out that video - thanks for the suggestion! Definitely worth it if I can get this cleared up before rent is due.

My husband's claim had this exact same thing happen in January. Got paid for a bunch of back weeks then immediately went into adjudication. Turns out it was because they were verifying his job search activities from those weeks they just paid him for. Kind of backwards but that's ESD for you! He kept filing and they kept paying him while that was going on.

That's reassuring to hear! I've been doing all my job search activities and logging them correctly, so hopefully if that's what they're checking it'll be resolved quickly.

The most important thing is to KEEP FILING YOUR WEEKLY CLAIMS even during adjudication! ESD won't pay you for weeks you don't claim, even if they later determine you were eligible. And make sure you're doing your three job search activities each week and documenting them properly.\n\nAs for whether you'll get paid during adjudication, it depends on the issue type. If it's a new issue being investigated, they might hold payments. If it's related to the previously resolved issue, they might pay while investigating since they already determined you were eligible once.\n\nI recommend checking your

Thank you for this detailed answer! I'll definitely keep filing my claims regardless. I looked at the Issues and Decisions section but it only shows the old disqualification that was resolved. Nothing about this new adjudication. So confusing!

Just wanted to follow up - did you end up getting paid for this week? Usually if the adjudication is newly opened, you'll receive at least one more payment while they're starting the investigation process. It's rare for payments to stop immediately unless there's a clear eligibility issue.

Update: I DID get paid! Filed on Sunday and the money hit my account this morning. Such a relief! Still no explanation about what the adjudication is for, but at least I can pay my bills while they figure it out.
