Claim suddenly shows adjudication status - 'Issue since 9/9/24' despite previously approved ESD payments

I'm freaking out a little bit here. I've been collecting UI benefits since May with zero problems—weekly payments coming in like clockwork every Tuesday. But this morning when I checked my ESD account, my status suddenly shows 'adjudication' and 'pending' out of nowhere! When I clicked on the pending notice, it says 'Issue since 9/9/24' but that makes no sense because my claim didn't even start until late October. I haven't received any messages or alerts explaining what's happening. No emails, no letters, nothing in my eServices inbox. Has anyone experienced something like this? My rent is due next week and I was counting on this payment. Do I need to call ESD? Is this some kind of glitch where they're reviewing old weeks even though they've been paying me for months?

This happened to me last month! One day everything's fine, the next day BOOM adjudication. It's probably because something triggered their system - did you report any earnings recently or answer any weekly questions differently?

No, that's what's so weird! I answered everything exactly the same as I always do. No work, yes I'm available, yes I'm looking for work, etc. Nothing changed at all.

The 9/9/24 date is likely when an issue was flagged in their system, not related to your claim start date. This happens sometimes when ESD does random claim reviews or if something triggered their automated system. The most common reasons for sudden adjudication are: 1. Identity verification (they periodically re-verify) 2. Job search activity review 3. Employer contest (former employer challenging eligibility) 4. Earnings discrepancy (if wages were reported under your SSN) 5. System glitch during quarterly review You should continue filing your weekly claims while this is being resolved. Adjudication typically takes 3-6 weeks, but if you need this resolved faster, you'll need to speak with an ESD representative directly.

Thanks for explaining all this. I feel a little better knowing there are actual reasons this could happen. I'm still worried about the 3-6 weeks though... I can't go that long without income.

ESD DOES THIS ALL THE TIME!!! They just randomly put people in adjudication with NO WARNING and expect you to somehow magically know why. meanwhile ur supposed to survive with NO MONEY. its complete GARBAGE how they treat ppl. i went thru this exact thing in august and it took 7 WEEKS to resolve!!!

7 weeks?? That's insane. What did you do for money during that time? Were you able to get any info on why they flagged your claim?

i had to borrow money from my brother and maxed out 2 credit cards. they never even TOLD me why, just one day the money started showing up again. the whole system is designed to make people give up!!!

I recommend trying to reach ESD directly to find out what the issue is. The date (9/9/24) is when the issue was created in their system, not necessarily related to your claim start date. Sometimes ESD flags claims for review based on quarterly employer reports or random verification checks. I had trouble getting through on the phone lines for days until someone told me about this service called Claimyr. It connects you directly to an ESD agent instead of waiting on hold forever. I was skeptical but it actually worked - got through in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Once you reach an agent, they can tell you exactly why your claim is in adjudication and sometimes even resolve simple issues immediately.

Thanks for the tip! I've been trying to call all morning with no luck. I'll check out that service - at this point I'd do anything to get answers. Did they tell you exactly what caused your adjudication when you finally got through?

Yes! Turns out my previous employer had responded late to ESD's initial inquiry (like 3 months late), which automatically triggered adjudication. The agent was able to see this in their system and expedite the review since everything else was in order. Definitely worth making the call - at minimum you'll find out what's going on.

have u checked ur spam folder? sometimes they send emails that get filtered. also check ur correspondance tab in eservices not just the main inbox

Just checked both - nothing in spam and nothing in the correspondence tab either. It's like they put me in adjudication without telling me why.

This is actually quite common with ESD claims. The system performs quarterly reviews of all claims, and sometimes flags issues retroactively. The important thing to understand is that the "Issue since 9/9/24" date doesn't mean there's been a problem since then - it means their system created the issue on that date. Here's what you should do: 1. Continue filing your weekly claims on time (very important) 2. Check your Notices/Letters section in eServices, not just the inbox 3. Call ESD at 800-318-6022 (be prepared to try multiple times) 4. Look for any fact-finding questionnaires in your account that need to be completed Most importantly, document everything. Note when you call, who you speak with, and what they tell you. If this drags on beyond 3 weeks, you may want to contact your state representative's office - they often have liaisons who can help with ESD issues. The good news is that if your adjudication is resolved in your favor, you'll receive all back payments at once.

Thank you for such a detailed response. I'll definitely keep filing weekly claims. I've been calling the 800 number all day but can't get through. I'll keep trying though and start documenting everything. I did check everywhere in my account and don't see any questionnaires or notices, which is frustrating. Fingers crossed it resolves quickly.

Omg i know exactly what this is!!! The same thing happened to me two weeks ago. so i called (took forever to get through btw) and they said it was because my previous employer filed a late response challenging my eligibility even though I'd been getting benefits for months! Check if you have a "fact finding" questionnaire somewhere in your account. They might have sent one about your separation from work?

I've checked everywhere and don't see any questionnaires! It's so frustrating. How did you finally get through to them on the phone? I've been trying all day.

I had to call RIGHT when they opened at 8am and even then it took like 25 tries. The trick is to press the options really fast and get in the queue before it fills up. If you hear "we're experiencing high call volume" just hang up and try again. It's a nightmare but eventually you'll get through!

My neighbor works for ESD (not saying this to brag just giving context lol) and she says September is when they do a lot of quarterly reviews. Apparently they're going through and checking everyones job search logs right now so that might be it. Do you upload your job search logs or just keep track of them yourself?

0 coins

I've been keeping track in a spreadsheet but haven't uploaded anything. They've never asked me to upload them. Is that what I'm supposed to be doing??

You're not required to upload job search logs unless specifically requested. However, you must maintain detailed records of your 3 job search activities per week. If ESD requests your job search logs during an audit or review, you typically have 7 days to provide them. This could potentially be the reason for your adjudication status, especially if they sent a request that you missed or didn't receive due to a technical issue.

Just checking in - any updates on your situation? Were you able to reach ESD?

Finally got through yesterday! Turns out it was a random quarterly review - they're verifying my job search activities. The agent sent me a secure message with a link to upload my job search logs for the past 8 weeks. She said once I upload those, it should only take 7-10 days to review (much better than the 3-6 weeks I was worried about). Thanks everyone for your help and advice!
