Late weekly claim due to holiday weekend - will ESD still accept it?

I'm panicking a bit right now. I always file my weekly claim first thing Sunday morning (like clockwork for the past 3 months), but this Memorial Day weekend threw me completely off. My kid got sick Saturday night, spent all day Sunday dealing with that mess, and completely forgot about my claim until I woke up in a cold sweat at 5:30am Monday. Filed immediately at 6am Monday morning instead of my usual Sunday routine. \n\nThe system accepted my claim, but now I'm worried it'll get rejected for being late. Does the holiday weekend give any grace period? Or am I going to lose a week of benefits because I filed one day late? The ESD website is super unclear about holiday weekends and I can't afford to miss a payment right now with rent due next week.

You should be okay! I've filed on Monday several times when I forgot on Sunday, and never had issues during holiday weekends. The rule is actually that you have until the end of the NEXT week to file (though obviously don't wait that long). Since Monday was a holiday, you're definitely fine - the system was even accepting your claim which is a good sign. They build in some flexibility especially around holidays.

Oh thank god. I've been stressing about this all day. My neighbor said she got denied once for filing late so I've been freaking out. So you think I don't even need to call them or anything? Just wait for the payment as usual?

Wait seriously? They give you until the following Saturday? I've been killing myself to do it Sunday mornings thinking that was the deadline! That's a huge relief.

According to ESD's official policy, you have until 11:59pm on Saturday to file your weekly claim for the previous week. Since you filed Monday morning, you're well within the timeframe. The Sunday filing is just recommended so you can get paid faster, but it's not a requirement or deadline.\n\nIf the system accepted your claim without any warnings, you're absolutely fine. The payment might be delayed by a day compared to your usual schedule, but you won't lose the benefits. Holiday weekends don't impact the weekly claim filing deadlines at all.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I've been doing this all wrong thinking Sunday was a hard deadline. What a relief to know I have the whole week. And thanks for confirming about the holiday not affecting anything.

I HATE how ESD doesn't make this clear!!! I spent my first 2 months on unemployment panicking every Sunday thinking it was the deadline, then my neighbor casually mentioned she always files on Wednesday and I was like WHAT?? Their website should have this in BOLD LETTERS. So many people think Sunday is the cutoff because that's when the week ends. Anyway, you're totally fine filing Monday morning - I file Tuesday most weeks now.

Right?? Their communication is terrible. I only learned about the Saturday deadline when I called them about something else entirely. The representative seemed surprised I didn't know.

Just to add some clarification on weekly claims since there's some confusion:\n\n1. You can file for the previous week anytime from Sunday through Saturday (before midnight)\n2. Filing early in the week (Sunday/Monday) typically means you get paid faster\n3. Holiday weekends don't change these deadlines at all\n4. The system will explicitly warn you if you're filing too late\n5. If you ever do miss the Saturday deadline, you can still file late with good cause (illness, emergency, etc)\n\nSince you filed Monday morning, you're absolutely fine. Your payment will process normally, maybe just a day later than you're used to seeing it.\n\nIf you ever do need to reach ESD quickly about time-sensitive issues, I've had good luck using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They help you get through to an ESD agent without the endless redials. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 that shows how it works. Saved me hours of frustration when I had an adjudication issue a few months ago.

Thank you for laying it all out so clearly! That's really helpful. And I appreciate the tip about Claimyr - I'll bookmark that for the future. I tried calling ESD directly once and gave up after an hour on hold.

Claimyr is legit! Used it last month when my claim suddenly went into adjudication for no reason. Got through to a real person in under 30 minutes instead of the usual

I'm curious - did your payment get processed on time? I'm in a similar situation (filed Tuesday instead of Sunday) and wondering if I should expect a delay or if it'll be on the normal schedule. My bills are set up assuming the deposit comes Wednesday like usual.

It actually came through this morning! So only one day later than my normal Tuesday deposit. I think you should be fine for Wednesday if you filed Tuesday, but maybe don't cut it super close with bills just in case.

That's a great idea! Just set one up for Sunday evenings as a backup reminder. Thanks for the tip!
