Will my weekly claim be accepted after filing Monday morning due to holiday weekend?
I totally messed up this week. I always file my UI claim first thing Sunday morning (like 7am, it's part of my routine with coffee). This weekend with Memorial Day coming up, I had family stress with my sister coming to town unexpectedly and completely forgot until I woke up in a panic at 5:30am Monday. Filed at 6am Monday instead of Sunday. The ESD website accepted it without any warnings, but now I'm freaking out that I'll lose this week's benefits since technically it's late. Does the holiday weekend change anything? Has anyone filed a day late and still received their benefits? Really need this payment for rent next week.

You should be fine! ESD gives you until 11:59pm on Saturday to file for the previous week. Since Monday was Memorial Day (a federal holiday), you're actually still within the regular timeframe. The system likely would have given you an error message if you were truly filing late. I've accidentally filed on Monday morning before (non-holiday) and still got paid normally.

•Oh thank god. I've been stressing all day about this. Do you know if it will delay the payment at all? I normally get mine on Tuesday.

To clarify the actual ESD policy here: You have from Sunday to Saturday to file your weekly claim for the previous week. So if you're claiming for the week of May 19-25, 2025, you can file anytime from May 26 (Sunday) through June 1 (Saturday). The only issue would be timing of payment. Claims filed early in the week (Sunday-Tuesday) generally process faster than those filed later. Since Monday was a holiday, the system will process your claim as if you filed on Tuesday. This might delay payment by 1 business day, but you haven't lost your eligibility for that week at all. If you ever do miss the Saturday deadline, ESD does allow for late filing with good cause, but you'd need to call them to explain why you filed late.

•Thank you for explaining that so clearly. I've been on UI for 5 weeks now but still get anxious about making mistakes that might cost me benefits. So I should expect payment Wednesday this week instead of Tuesday then?

I MISSED FILING 3 WEEKS AGO AND HAD TO CALL ESD!!! Took FOREVER to get through and then my benefits were delayed by TWO WEEKS! The system is totally rigged against us. Why can't they just have an app that reminds you automatically?? So stupid.

•You actually don't need to call if you miss a week. You can just file for both the current and previous week online using the "Apply for missed weeks" option on eServices. That's much faster than calling in most cases.

If you need to reach ESD urgently about your claim status, I found a service called Claimyr that really helped me get through. I was panicking about a similar situation and couldn't get anyone on the phone after trying for days. Claimyr connected me with an ESD agent in about 25 minutes instead of spending hours redialing. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Their website is claimyr.com - definitely worth it when you're stressed about claim issues and need immediate answers.

•Thanks for this! I'll keep it in mind if I have any issues with this week's payment. Hopefully everything goes through normally, but it's good to know there's an option if I need to talk to ESD directly.

I had a similar thing happen during Christmas last year - totally forgot to file Sunday and did it Monday evening. Payment came through just fine but a day later than usual. Holiday weekends mess with everyone's schedules! In my experience ESD is actually pretty reasonable about this stuff as long as you're within that Sunday-Saturday window.

One thing to be aware of though - make sure you complete your three job search activities for the week even with the holiday. A lot of people think holidays excuse them from job search requirements, but technically they don't. ESD randomly audits job search logs and can disqualify weeks if your activities aren't properly documented. Just something to keep in mind for future holiday weeks!

•Good point! I actually did my job searches on Thursday and Friday last week, so I have them all logged properly. I was just worried about the filing timing. Really appreciate everyone's help here!

•Yes! It posted to my account this morning (Wednesday) instead of Tuesday like normal. One day delay as predicted but otherwise everything went fine. Thanks everyone for calming my anxiety about this!
