Is the Washington ESD unemployment website down right now - can't access my claim

I've been trying to log into my Washington ESD account for the past hour to file my weekly claim and the website keeps timing out or giving me error messages. Is anyone else having trouble accessing secure.esd.wa.gov right now? I'm worried about missing my filing deadline since today is Sunday and I always submit my claim before midnight.

yeah same here, been trying since this morning and it's super slow or just won't load at all

Thanks for confirming! I was starting to think it was just my internet connection.

Try clearing your browser cache and cookies first. Sometimes that helps with Washington ESD login issues.

Washington ESD website goes down pretty regularly, especially on Sundays when everyone's trying to file their weekly claims. I've noticed it happens almost every other week during peak hours.

0 coins

That's so frustrating! What happens if we can't file by the deadline because their system is down?

0 coins

Usually they extend the deadline or don't penalize you if there are documented system outages. Keep trying though.

If you're having ongoing issues reaching Washington ESD online or by phone, I recently discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) which helped me get through to an actual agent when I couldn't access my account for days. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Made the whole process way less stressful.

0 coins

Is that legit? I'm always skeptical of third-party services for government stuff.

0 coins

I was skeptical too but it actually worked. They help you navigate the phone system to reach a real person at Washington ESD.

0 coins

Never heard of that but anything's better than sitting on hold for 3 hours just to get disconnected.

Try using a different browser or incognito mode. Sometimes Washington ESD's website has issues with certain browsers or stored data.

0 coins

Good idea, I'll try Firefox instead of Chrome and see if that works.

0 coins

Incognito mode worked for me! Thanks for the tip.

This is exactly why I always file my weekly claim on Tuesday or Wednesday. Sunday evenings are the worst time to try accessing Washington ESD because everyone waits until the last minute.

0 coins

You're probably right. I need to get better about filing earlier in the week.

0 coins

Same here. I learned that lesson after getting locked out one Sunday and panicking about my benefits.

0 coins

OMG this is so stressful!! What if I can't file my claim and they think I didn't look for work this week? Will they stop my benefits? I've been unemployed for 2 months and can't afford to lose my UI payments.

0 coins

Take a deep breath. If it's a system outage, Washington ESD usually doesn't penalize claimants. Document your attempts to file.

0 coins

How do I document it? Should I take screenshots of the error messages?

0 coins

Yes, screenshots help. Also note the time and date you tried to access the site.

0 coins

The Washington ESD website is garbage. It's 2025 and they still have a system that crashes every time more than 50 people try to use it. Completely unacceptable for something people depend on for basic survival.

0 coins

Right?? Other states have way better unemployment systems. Washington is so behind.

0 coins

To be fair, they did upgrade some parts of the system recently. But yeah, it still has major issues.

0 coins

Just got through! Took like 15 tries but I was finally able to submit my weekly claim. Keep trying everyone.

0 coins

Thank you for the update! I'll keep refreshing.

0 coins

What time did you get through? Wondering if certain times work better.

0 coins

It was around 8:30 PM. Maybe traffic is lighter in the evening?

For future reference, you can also try calling the automated phone system to file your weekly claim if the website is down. The number is 800-318-6022. It's not as convenient but it works as a backup.

0 coins

Oh I didn't know about the phone option! That's really helpful to know.

0 coins

The phone system is actually pretty easy once you get used to it. Sometimes faster than the website.

Update on Claimyr - I used it again last week when I needed to talk to someone about an adjudication issue. Way easier than trying to get through on my own. Just thought I'd mention it since website issues like this happen so often with Washington ESD.

0 coins

How much does it cost? I'm barely getting by on unemployment as it is.

0 coins

I'd rather not get into specific costs here, but it was worth it for me to avoid the stress and wasted time. Check their site for details.

0 coins

This happens every few weeks. I keep a backup plan now - different browsers, phone number, and I even write down my job search activities separately in case the online form doesn't save.

0 coins

Smart approach. I should probably start keeping better backup records too.

0 coins

That's really good advice. I always forget to back up my job search log entries.

0 coins

Just wanted to say the website is working fine for me now. Filed my claim about 10 minutes ago with no issues.

0 coins

Awesome! I'm going to try again right now.

0 coins

Thanks for the heads up! Finally got mine submitted too.

PSA: if you're still having trouble, try using the mobile version of the Washington ESD website. Sometimes it works better than the desktop version during outages.

0 coins

The mobile site is actually pretty decent. Never thought to try that during an outage.

0 coins

Good to know! I'll bookmark the mobile version as a backup.

0 coins

Anyone know if Washington ESD ever announces these outages ahead of time? Would be nice to get some warning so we can plan around it.

0 coins

They sometimes post on their social media but not always. Usually it's just 'we're experiencing high volume' messages.

0 coins

I follow their Twitter account and they do post about major outages there occasionally.

0 coins

This thread convinced me to file my weekly claim earlier in the week from now on. Thanks for all the tips everyone!

0 coins

Same here! Lesson learned about waiting until Sunday night.

0 coins

Tuesday through Thursday are definitely the best days to avoid website issues.

0 coins

For what it's worth, I had my claim stuck in adjudication for weeks and couldn't get through to Washington ESD no matter what I tried. Finally used that Claimyr service someone mentioned and got connected to an agent who resolved everything in one call. Sometimes you just need to talk to a real person.

0 coins

That's exactly my situation right now! My claim has been pending for 3 weeks.

0 coins

Definitely worth trying if you're stuck. The waiting and uncertainty is the worst part.

0 coins

UPDATE: Finally got my weekly claim filed! Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions. Going to file earlier in the week from now on to avoid this stress.

0 coins

Glad you got it sorted out! These website issues are frustrating but usually resolve within a few hours.

0 coins

Great to hear! And remember, if you ever need to actually speak with someone at Washington ESD, those alternative methods we discussed can really help.

0 coins

I'm dealing with the same issue right now! Been trying to access the site for over an hour and keep getting timeouts. Really appreciate everyone sharing their workarounds - going to try the incognito mode suggestion and maybe switch to the mobile version. It's such a relief to know it's not just me and that ESD usually doesn't penalize for system outages. Definitely learning my lesson about filing earlier in the week instead of waiting until Sunday!

0 coins

Welcome to the club! The Sunday night struggle is real with Washington ESD. Definitely try the incognito mode first - that seems to work for a lot of people. And yeah, filing mid-week is a game changer. I used to stress every Sunday until I switched to filing on Tuesdays. Way less traffic on the system and you don't have to worry about these weekend crashes. Hope you get through soon!

0 coins

I'm having the exact same problem! Been trying to log in for the past two hours and getting nothing but error messages and timeouts. This is so stressful when you're worried about missing the filing deadline. Thank you everyone for sharing all these helpful tips - I had no idea about the phone filing option or that the mobile site might work better during outages. Going to try clearing my cache and using incognito mode first, then maybe try calling that automated number if the website is still down. Really appreciate this community for helping each other navigate these frustrating technical issues with Washington ESD!

0 coins

I feel your pain! Just went through the same thing earlier today. The incognito mode trick actually worked for me after about 3 tries - sometimes you have to be persistent with it. If that doesn't work, definitely try the mobile version of the site (just go to the same URL on your phone). The automated phone system at 800-318-6022 is also a solid backup if you're really stuck. Don't stress too much about the deadline - like others mentioned, ESD usually accommodates system outages. Just document your attempts with screenshots if possible. Hang in there!
