ESD SecureAccess login issues - can't submit PFML weekly claim
Is anyone else having trouble logging into the Paid Family Medical Leave portal through SecureAccess Washington? I've been trying since yesterday morning but keep getting an error after I enter my password. Just says 'Unable to process your request at this time.' I need to file my weekly PFML claim today or I'll miss this week's benefits! Has the system been down or is it just me? Anyone know a direct number to call for PFML tech support instead of the main ESD line?

•Ugh, that actually makes me feel a bit better knowing it's not just me. Have you tried calling them yet?

PFML and Unemployment use the SAME SecureAccess but they're DIFFERENT systems once you log in!!! ESD's whole website is a MESS and they expect us to figure it out. I couldn't get into my account for TWO WEEKS last month. Kept getting bumped back to the login page over and over. Try clearing your cache and cookies - that worked for me eventually. Their tech support is USELESS!!!

•I don't think that's the right advice. PFML and Unemployment absolutely use different systems. I've been on both and PFML goes through the dedicated portal at paidleave.wa.gov while regular UI claims use eServices. You log in with the same SAW credentials but they're separate systems. Your browser cookies wouldn't affect both systems the same way.

There's actually a scheduled maintenance period happening for the PFML system this week. It was posted on their Twitter account but not very prominently on the website. According to their post, the system will be back up tomorrow morning at 8am. However, don't worry about missing your weekly claim - when this has happened before, they've extended the filing deadline by the number of days the system was down. If you're really concerned, you can try calling the PFML customer care team directly at 833-717-2273. They should be able to advise you about your specific situation and confirm the deadline extension.

•Thank you so much! I had no idea there was maintenance happening. I don't use Twitter so would have never seen that announcement. I'll call that number tomorrow if I still can't get in after 8am. Really appreciate the help!

I had this same issue last month trying to certify my PFML claim. The SecureAccess Washington (SAW) system can be incredibly frustrating when there are technical issues. When I couldn't get through on the phone either, I tried using Claimyr (claimyr.com) and was connected to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes instead of waiting for hours or getting disconnected. They helped me sort out my login issues and manually processed my claim. There's a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 - definitely worth checking out if you continue having problems after the maintenance period.

I just wanted to mention something important - PFML (Paid Family and Medical Leave) and UI (Unemployment Insurance) are different programs administered by ESD. You mentioned ESD and PFML in your post, which isn't technically wrong since ESD oversees PFML, but it's a separate department with its own contact procedures. For PFML specific issues: 1. Call 833-717-2273 (their dedicated line) 2. Email paidleave@esd.wa.gov 3. Use the contact form on paidleave.wa.gov For login issues specifically, you sometimes need to contact the SAW helpdesk instead at 855-682-0785. Hope this helps clarify who to contact. Getting through to the right department the first time saves a lot of headaches!

•This is super helpful, thank you! I didn't realize I should be contacting SAW directly for login issues rather than PFML. I'll try the SAW helpdesk tomorrow if I'm still having trouble after the maintenance period ends.

•Ugh, thanks for the update. At least they're extending the deadline too according to what someone said above.

I work in IT (not for ESD) and wanted to add that sometimes these login issues can be browser-related. If you're using Chrome, try Firefox or Edge instead. Also, I've noticed ESD systems sometimes have issues with password managers and autofill. Try typing your password manually instead of letting it autofill. These little tricks have helped me get in when the system was being finicky.

•This!!!! Firefox worked for me when Chrome kept glitching out! Their system is SO poorly designed...

Update: I just checked the PFML Twitter account, and they've officially announced that weekly claim filing deadlines will be extended by 3 days to accommodate the extended maintenance window. So you won't lose your benefits for this week. They also mentioned they're adding extra call center staff next week to handle the backlog of questions.

•Thank you so much for the update! That's a relief. I'll try again after maintenance is complete. Really appreciate everyone's help!

I've been dealing with PFML login issues too! What worked for me was actually going directly to paidleave.wa.gov instead of trying to navigate through the main ESD site. Sometimes the SecureAccess portal gets overloaded when everyone's trying to access it through different entry points. Also, if you're still having trouble after the maintenance ends, try logging in early morning (like 6-7am) or late evening when there's less traffic on the system. The server load seems to make a big difference with these older government systems.

•That's a great tip about going directly to paidleave.wa.gov! I've been trying through the main ESD site which probably made things worse. I'll definitely try the early morning approach too - makes sense that the servers would be less congested then. Thanks for sharing what worked for you!

I'm dealing with the exact same issue! Been locked out since Tuesday trying to file my weekly PFML claim. It's so frustrating that they don't communicate these maintenance windows better - I only found out about it from this thread. Really glad to hear the filing deadline will be extended though. Has anyone tried using the mobile browser vs desktop? Sometimes government sites work better on one or the other, though with ESD's system being so outdated I'm not holding my breath.

•I haven't tried mobile vs desktop yet, but that's a really good point! Government sites are so hit or miss with mobile compatibility. I've actually had better luck with some older state systems using desktop browsers, but others seem to work better on mobile. Might be worth trying both once the maintenance is done tomorrow evening. And yeah, their communication about outages is terrible - if people hadn't shared the Twitter updates here I would have been completely in the dark about what was happening!

I've been having the same login issues with SecureAccess for my PFML claim! Started having problems Wednesday and thought it was just me. Really appreciate everyone sharing the info about the maintenance window - I had no idea that was happening since I don't follow them on Twitter. The deadline extension is such a relief too. I'm going to try some of the suggestions here like using Firefox instead of Chrome and going directly to paidleave.wa.gov once the system is back up tomorrow evening. It's frustrating how poorly they communicate these outages, but at least we're all helping each other figure it out!

•Same here! I've been stuck since Wednesday too and was starting to panic about missing my claim deadline. This community has been so helpful - I never would have known about the maintenance or deadline extension without everyone sharing info. It's ridiculous that we have to rely on random Twitter posts and community forums to find out when their system is down. I'm definitely going to try the Firefox suggestion and the early morning login tip once everything is back online. Thanks for confirming I'm not alone in this mess!

I've been having the exact same problem since Tuesday! Really glad to see I'm not the only one struggling with this. The SecureAccess login has been giving me that same "Unable to process your request" error every time I try to file my weekly PFML claim. I was getting really worried about missing the deadline, but seeing all the helpful info in this thread about the maintenance window and deadline extension is such a relief. Thanks to everyone who shared the Twitter updates and phone numbers - I never would have known about any of this otherwise. ESD really needs to do better about communicating these outages on their main website instead of just buried Twitter posts. I'm going to try the Firefox browser suggestion and going directly to paidleave.wa.gov once the system is back up tomorrow evening. Hopefully we can all get our claims filed without any more issues!
