ESD login keeps rejecting my password despite being correct - account locked?

I've been trying to login to my ESD account since yesterday to file my weekly claim and the system keeps telling me my password is incorrect. I KNOW it's right because I have it saved in my password manager and I just changed it last month! I've tried at least 10 times and now I'm worried my account might be locked. Has the ESD website been acting up lately? Anyone else dealing with login issues? My claim week ends tomorrow and I really need to get this filed before the deadline. Any suggestions before I waste 5 hours trying to call them?

same thing happened 2 me last week! turns out the system was doing maintenance or something. try again after midnight sometimes that works

Really? That's so frustrating they don't tell us about maintenance windows. I'll try after midnight, thank you!

This is typically one of three issues: 1. The SecureAccess Washington (SAW) system might be experiencing issues - try logging in directly through the SAW portal first, then navigate to ESD 2. Your account may be locked after too many failed attempts (usually after 5 tries) - in this case you'll need to call the technical support line 3. Your browser cache/cookies might be causing conflicts - try clearing your cache completely or using a different browser Also, make sure you're entering your username exactly as it was registered, including any capitalization. The system is case-sensitive.

Thank you for these detailed suggestions! I just tried clearing my cache and cookies completely, and I'm still getting the same error. I think you're right about my account being locked. I'm dreading calling in though - last time I was on hold for over 2 hours.

I work in IT and see this all the time with government sites. Here's what you should do: 1. Try using a completely different device (not just a different browser) 2. Make sure you're going to the correct URL - sometimes people bookmark old/redirect pages 3. Try hitting the "Forgot Password" link even if you know your password - sometimes this resets whatever authentication issue is happening If none of that works, your account is definitely locked and you'll need to call ESD directly. They're the only ones who can unlock it for security reasons.

If your account is actually locked, you'll probably have to call ESD directly. I was in the same situation in January and kept getting the runaround. After two days of trying I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to someone. They have this service that helps you skip the ESD phone queue. There's a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The ESD agent told me that account lockouts are actually really common after system updates, and they can usually fix it in just a few minutes once you actually reach someone.

Is that service legit? I'm always suspicious of third-party services claiming to help with unemployment stuff. Has anyone else used it?

It's definitely legit - all they do is help you get through on the phone faster. They don't ask for any of your claim information or anything sensitive. You still talk directly with ESD agents.

I went through this EXACT issue back in February. Here's what's actually happening: ESD and SecureAccess Washington (SAW) don't always sync up properly. Even though your password manager has the correct password, there might be a connection issue between the two systems. What worked for me was: 1. Go directly to secure.esd.wa.gov instead of using the main ESD website link 2. Log in there with your SAW credentials 3. If that doesn't work, call the technical support line at 855-682-0785 (not the regular ESD line) The technical support team can usually see if your account is locked and can unlock it much faster than regular ESD reps. Best times to call are right when they open at 8:00am or during lunch hours when volume is lower.

I just tried the secure.esd.wa.gov link and got the same error message. I'll try calling the technical support number you provided tomorrow morning. Thank you so much for this specific advice! I didn't even know there was a separate technical support number.

ESD IS THE WORST!!! This happens to me EVERY OTHER MONTH!!! Their stupid system locks accounts for NO REASON and then expects us to waste HOURS of our lives trying to fix THEIR MISTAKES!!!! I've missed claim deadlines twice because of this exact issue and then had to file appeals just to get my benefits. The whole system is DESIGNED to make us give up!!!!

preach!! 🙌 they def make it hard on purpose

While the system certainly has frustrating issues, account security measures are actually in place to protect your benefits from fraud. The lockout mechanism prevents unauthorized access attempts. That said, they should definitely improve their customer service capacity to help resolve these issues more efficiently.

UPDATE: I was finally able to get in! For anyone who has this issue in the future, here's what worked for me: 1. I went to the SecureAccess Washington page directly (secure.esd.wa.gov) 2. Clicked on 'Forgot Password' even though I knew my password 3. Reset my password through the email link 4. Logged in with the new password 5. Had to answer my security questions again 6. Then it finally let me in and I could file my weekly claim Thanks everyone for your help! The system is definitely frustrating but at least I got it resolved without having to spend hours on the phone.

Great news! Glad you got it resolved. I'd suggest taking screenshots of your weekly claim confirmation page in the future. That way if you have login issues again near a deadline, you have proof you attempted to file on time in case you need to appeal.

So glad to see this got resolved! For anyone else dealing with similar issues, I'd also recommend bookmarking the direct SecureAccess Washington login page (secure.esd.wa.gov) instead of going through the main ESD site. I've noticed the main site sometimes has redirect issues that can cause authentication problems. Also, if you use a password manager like the OP, make sure to update it with your new password right away so you don't run into this cycle again. The forgot password reset trick is definitely a lifesaver when the system gets confused about your credentials!

This is really helpful advice! I had no idea there was a difference between going through the main ESD site vs the direct SecureAccess portal. I've been bookmarking random ESD pages whenever I find ones that work, but it sounds like I should just stick with the direct login. The password manager tip is spot on too - I've definitely been in situations where I reset a password but forgot to update it in my manager, then got confused about which one was current. Thanks for sharing these practical tips!
