Washington ESD saying my social security number is invalid - why won't it accept it?
I'm trying to file my weekly claim on the Washington ESD website and it keeps rejecting my social security number saying it's invalid. I've triple checked it and it's definitely correct - same number I've been using for years. This is my third week trying and I'm getting really frustrated. Has anyone else had this problem? I need to get my claim filed or I'm going to miss the deadline.

This happened to me too! Make sure you're not including any dashes or spaces when you enter it. The Washington ESD system is really picky about formatting. Just enter the 9 digits with no punctuation.

•I tried that already but maybe I'll try again. It's so annoying that they don't make this clearer.

•yeah the website is terrible about giving helpful error messages

Are you using the same browser you used when you first set up your account? Sometimes cached data can cause weird issues with the Washington ESD portal.

•I've tried Chrome and Firefox, same issue on both. I'll try clearing my cache though.

I had this exact problem last month and it was driving me crazy! Turns out there was some kind of mismatch in their system between my SSN and my account. I ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to actually get through to a Washington ESD agent who fixed it in like 5 minutes. Way better than trying to call myself - I was on hold for hours before that.

•Really? How does that work? I've been trying to call for days and can never get through.

•It's a service that calls for you and gets you connected to an actual person. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Saved me so much time and stress.

•Interesting, I've never heard of that before. Might be worth trying if the regular methods aren't working.

the washington esd computer system is garbage. probably just a glitch that will magically fix itself tomorrow. i swear they update something every week and break something else

•So true! The system seems to have random issues all the time. But the SSN thing usually means there's an actual mismatch that needs fixing.

Before you try calling, double-check that your SSN matches exactly what you have on file with Social Security. Sometimes if you've had any name changes or other updates, there can be discrepancies that cause this error.

•I haven't changed my name or anything. This is so frustrating, I just want to file my weekly claim.

•I understand the frustration. If the basic troubleshooting doesn't work, you'll definitely need to talk to someone at Washington ESD to resolve the account mismatch.

same thing happened to my brother. turned out someone at esd entered his ssn wrong when they set up his account initially. took forever to get it fixed calling the regular way

•How did he finally get it resolved? I'm worried about missing my filing deadline.

•he had to talk to someone in person basically. the phone system couldn't handle it

Try logging out completely and logging back in. Sometimes the session gets corrupted and causes weird validation errors like this. Also make sure you're using the official Washington ESD website and not some third-party site.

•I'm using the official site for sure. I'll try logging out and back in though.

•Good point about third party sites, there are some sketchy ones out there that look similar.

This is exactly why I started using Claimyr for any Washington ESD issues. The regular phone lines are impossible and the website has so many bugs. At least with Claimyr I know I'll actually get to talk to someone who can fix the problem.

•How much does something like that cost? I'm already strapped for cash with my claim being delayed.

•It's totally worth it when you consider how much time you save and the stress you avoid. Plus getting your claim fixed faster means you get your money sooner.

ugh this brings back memories. i had the same issue and spent WEEKS trying to fix it. the esd phone system would just hang up on me after waiting for hours

try using a different device maybe? like if youre on your computer try your phone or vice versa. sometimes the washington esd site acts weird on certain browsers or devices

•I'll give that a shot. At this point I'm willing to try anything.

Another thing to check - make sure your account information hasn't been locked or flagged for some reason. Sometimes security measures can cause validation errors that look like system bugs.

Isabella Ferreira
•How would I know if my account is flagged? There's no indication of any problems when I log in.

•Unfortunately they don't always make it obvious. That's another reason why talking to an actual agent is usually the fastest way to diagnose these issues.

Just wanted to follow up - did you end up getting your SSN issue resolved? I'm curious if any of the suggestions worked or if you had to contact Washington ESD directly.

•Still working on it. The browser clearing didn't help. I think I'm going to have to call or try that Claimyr thing you mentioned.

•Definitely recommend Claimyr if you can't get through the regular way. It's frustrating but at least there's a solution that actually works.

I've seen this error before when helping my mom with her claim. Usually it means there's some kind of data mismatch in their system that requires manual correction by an ESD worker.

Isabella Ferreira
•That's what I was afraid of. The automated system can't fix this type of issue.

NeonNinja
•Exactly. These account-level problems need human intervention to resolve properly.

just had this happen to a coworker last week. she tried everything but eventually had to get someone on the phone to fix the backend data issue

Isabella Ferreira
•How long did it take her to get through to someone?

Sean Murphy
•she said she used some calling service and got connected pretty quickly. way faster than trying to call herself

For what it's worth, once they fix the SSN validation issue, you shouldn't have problems with future weekly claims. It's just a one-time fix that needs to happen in their system.

Isabella Ferreira
•That's good to know. I was worried this would be an ongoing problem every week.

the washington esd website is honestly terrible. they need to invest in better technology instead of making us deal with these stupid errors

•seriously! for how much money they handle you'd think they could build a website that actually works properly

I work in IT and I've seen this type of validation error before. It's usually not a problem with what you're entering but with how the data is stored on their end. Definitely needs an admin to fix it.
0 coins
Isabella Ferreira
•That makes sense. So no amount of trying different browsers or devices is going to help if it's a backend issue.
0 coins
Zara Khan
•Correct. You need someone with database access to correct the underlying data problem.

Hope you get this sorted out soon! Missing weekly claim deadlines because of technical issues is so stressful. The system should have better error handling to prevent these situations.

Isabella Ferreira
•Thanks! Yeah, it's really stressful not knowing if I'll be able to file on time. I'm going to try calling tomorrow morning.

This thread is super helpful - I was having a similar issue with my account but didn't realize it might be a data mismatch problem. Definitely going to look into that Claimyr service if I can't get through normally.

•Yeah, it's really common for these backend issues to cause confusing error messages. Good luck getting yours resolved!

UPDATE: I ended up using Claimyr and got connected to an agent who found the problem right away. Turns out there was a typo in how they had my SSN stored in their system. Fixed in 10 minutes! Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions.
