Washington ESD weekly claim phone number - how to call unemployment weekly claim
I've been filing my weekly claims online but need to call it in this week since I'm traveling and won't have reliable internet. Does anyone know the phone number for Washington ESD weekly claim filing? I tried looking on their website but it's confusing with all the different numbers listed. Also do I need any special information when I call besides my SSN and PIN?

The automated weekly claim filing number is 1-800-318-6022. You'll need your SSN and PIN, plus be ready to answer the standard questions about work and earnings for the week. The system is available 24/7 so you can call anytime.

•Perfect, thank you! Do you know if there's a way to check if my claim went through after I call it in?

•Yes, you can log into your account later to verify it was processed. Usually shows up within a few hours.

Just a heads up - sometimes that automated line gets overwhelmed and disconnects you. If you need to talk to a real person about your weekly claim, good luck getting through. I spent 3 hours on hold last month.

•Ugh same here. The hold times are ridiculous. I've had better luck using Claimyr.com to get through to an actual agent when I need help. They have this service that calls for you and gets you connected. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Never heard of that but honestly anything has to be better than sitting on hold for hours.

•I tried Claimyr last week when I had an issue with my claim status. Actually got through to someone in like 15 minutes instead of the usual 2-3 hour wait. Pretty impressed.

•Yeah, the phone option has been around for years. Most people just use the online system because it's faster, but calling is definitely an option.

•good to know for when the website is down, which seems to happen every other week

Make sure you have all your job search activities documented before you call. The automated system will ask if you did your required job searches and you need to have that information ready. Also if you worked any hours or earned any money, have those exact amounts.

•Good point about the job search log. I always forget how many they require per week. Is it still 3 job searches?

•It depends on your situation. Most people need 3 job search activities per week, but some programs require more. Check your determination letter or ask Washington ESD to be sure.

•I think its 3 for regular UI but might be different if your on standby or have other special circumstances

The phone system is pretty straightforward. Just follow the prompts and answer honestly about your work and availability. Takes about 5 minutes if you have all your info ready.

•Unless you mess up and have to start over like I did last time. Hit the wrong button and had to call back again.

•Yeah, the system doesn't give you a chance to correct mistakes. You have to hang up and call back if you enter something wrong.

Pro tip: call early in the morning or late at night to avoid busy signals. The system gets overloaded during business hours.

•I always call around 6am Sunday morning. Never had a problem getting through at that time.

•Smart! I usually do mine Saturday nights around 11pm. Much better than trying during the day.

Does anyone know if you can file by phone if you're out of state? I'm visiting family in California but still need to file my Washington claim.

Liam Fitzgerald
•Yes, you can file from anywhere as long as you're available for work in Washington. Just make sure you answer the questions correctly about your availability.

•Thanks! I was worried I'd have to skip a week or something.

•Just dont lie about being available if you're not actually able to work. They can audit your claims later.

I've been using the phone system for months because I don't trust the website. Had too many issues with it freezing or not saving my information. Phone is more reliable in my experience.

•Same here. The website is garbage half the time. Phone system just works every time.

•Really? I've never had problems with the online system. Seems faster than calling to me.

•Maybe it depends on your browser or something. I just got tired of dealing with technical issues when I need to file on time.

Quick question - if I file by phone, do I still get the confirmation number? I like to keep track of those for my records.

Liam Fitzgerald
•Yes, the automated system will give you a confirmation number at the end. Write it down or take a screenshot if you're using speakerphone.

•Perfect, thanks! I'm paranoid about keeping records of everything with unemployment.

This is probably a dumb question but do you have to file every single week or can you file multiple weeks at once over the phone?

Giovanni Mancini
•You can file multiple weeks if you missed some, but you have to do each week separately. The system will ask which week you're filing for.

Paolo Ricci
•Got it. I missed filing last week because I was sick and was hoping I could catch up.

•Make sure you file for the missed week ASAP. There's a time limit on how late you can file.

Has anyone had issues with the phone system not accepting their PIN? Mine worked fine online but when I called it said invalid PIN.

CosmicCommander
•That happened to me once. Turns out I was entering it wrong because the phone keypad is different than typing. Double check you're hitting the right numbers.

Oliver Zimmermann
•Ah that might be it. I'll try being more careful with the keypad.

•Also make sure you're not hitting the buttons too fast. The system sometimes doesn't register rapid key presses.

I wish there was a way to file by text message or something. Calling is so old school lol

•At least we have the online option. My dad had to mail in paper forms back in the day.

One more thing - make sure you're calling from a quiet place. The system can be sensitive to background noise and might not pick up your responses correctly.

•Good point. I tried calling from a coffee shop once and had to start over because it couldn't hear me properly.

For what it's worth, if you ever need to talk to a real person about your weekly claim or any other unemployment issue, that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier really does work. I was skeptical but it saved me hours of hold time when I had a problem with my claim status.

•How much does it cost though? I'm already tight on money being unemployed.

•It's worth checking out their site for pricing. For me it was worth it just to avoid the stress of trying to get through on my own.

Thanks for all this helpful info everyone! I just tried calling the number and got through right away. The automated system was really straightforward - just had to enter my SSN, PIN, and answer the standard questions about work availability and job search activities. Got my confirmation number and it only took about 4 minutes total. Much easier than I expected!

•That's awesome! Glad it worked out so smoothly for you. It's always nerve-wracking trying something new with unemployment stuff, but sounds like the phone system is pretty user-friendly. Thanks for reporting back - this will definitely help others who might be hesitant to try calling instead of filing online.

I've been filing by phone for about 6 months now and it's become my preferred method. One tip I'd add - if you have any earnings to report, have the exact dollar amounts ready before you call. The system won't let you estimate or round up/down, it needs the precise amount. Also, if you're reporting multiple employers for the same week, you'll need to enter each one separately with their specific earnings. Takes a bit longer but ensures everything is accurate for your claim.

•This is really helpful advice! I didn't know the system was so strict about exact dollar amounts. I've been doing online filing but might switch to phone after reading all these experiences. Quick question - when you say "multiple employers for the same week," does that include things like gig work or freelance payments? I occasionally do some freelance graphic design and want to make sure I'm reporting everything correctly.
