What is the phone number for Washington ESD unemployment benefits?
I've been searching everywhere for the correct phone number to call Washington ESD about my unemployment claim. There's so many different numbers online and I'm not sure which one is the right one to use. My weekly claim is showing some kind of issue and I need to talk to someone but don't want to waste time calling the wrong department. Can someone please tell me what the actual phone number is for unemployment benefits in Washington state?

The main Washington ESD unemployment number is 800-318-6022. But good luck getting through - I've been trying for weeks and either get a busy signal or get disconnected after waiting on hold for hours.

•Thanks for the number! How long did you usually wait on hold before getting disconnected?

Darren Brooks
•Longest I waited was 3 hours before the system just hung up on me. Super frustrating when you have a time-sensitive issue.

There's also a technical support line at 855-682-0785 if you're having website issues with your SecureAccess Washington account. But for actual claim questions, you'll need the main customer service line.

•I called the tech support line and they couldn't help with my adjudication issue. They just told me to call the main number.

•Yeah, they can only help with login problems and website glitches, not actual claim processing issues.

I was having the same problem trying to reach someone at Washington ESD. The phone lines are absolutely swamped and I was getting nowhere. Then I found this service called Claimyr that actually got me through to an agent in about 20 minutes. You can check them out at claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works.

•How does that work exactly? Do they just call for you or something?

•Yeah, they handle all the calling and waiting on hold, then connect you directly to the Washington ESD agent when they get through. Saved me hours of frustration.

•That sounds too good to be true. What's the catch?

CALLING WASHINGTON ESD IS A NIGHTMARE!! I've been trying for 3 weeks straight and can't get through. The system is completely broken. How are we supposed to resolve issues with our claims if we can't even talk to a human being???

•I feel your frustration! That's exactly why I'm asking for the right number. Hopefully someone has a trick for getting through.

•Try calling right when they open at 8am. Sometimes you can get in the queue before it gets completely jammed.

The best time I've found to call is during lunch hours around 12-1pm. Seems like fewer people are calling then. Still takes forever but at least you don't get the busy signal as much.

•Interesting tip! I always assumed lunch time would be worse since that's when working people would call.

•That's what I thought too, but it actually worked better for me. Maybe because the phone reps are still working during lunch?

Make sure you have your Social Security number and all your claim information ready before you call. They'll ask for it right away and if you're not prepared, they might hang up on you to keep the line moving.

•Good advice! What other information should I have ready?

•Your claim confirmation number, last employer info, and dates of your last few weekly claims. Basically anything related to your case.

I tried calling 50+ times yesterday and only got through once, then got transferred to three different people before getting disconnected. This system is absolutely broken.

•Same experience here. It's like they don't want us to actually get help.

•The whole Washington ESD phone system needs to be completely overhauled. It's unacceptable in 2025.

For what it's worth, I had success with that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. I was skeptical at first but they actually got me connected to a Washington ESD agent who helped resolve my adjudication issue. Worth trying if you're stuck like I was.

•How much did it cost you?

Mae Bennett
•I'd rather not discuss pricing publicly, but it was reasonable considering how much time and stress it saved me. Check their website for details.

Just a heads up - there are different numbers for different issues. If you're dealing with an overpayment, there's a separate collections line. Make sure you're calling the right department or they'll just transfer you around.

•How do I know which department to call for my specific issue?

Beatrice Marshall
•Check your notices or messages in your online account. They usually specify which department sent the correspondence.

The 800-318-6022 number is correct but be prepared for a long wait. I usually put my phone on speaker and do other things while waiting. Sometimes it takes 2-3 hours but eventually you'll get through.

•That's dedication! I don't have that kind of patience anymore.

•It's frustrating but sometimes it's the only way to get your issue resolved. The online system can't handle complex problems.

Try calling on Wednesday or Thursday mornings. Mondays and Fridays seem to be the worst days for getting through to Washington ESD.

•Makes sense - everyone's probably dealing with weekend issues on Monday and trying to wrap things up on Friday.

•I've noticed the same thing. Mid-week definitely seems better for call volume.

Whatever you do, don't hang up if you get put on hold. Even if it's been hours, stay on the line. I've made that mistake too many times and had to start over.

Cynthia Love
•That's good to know. I probably would have hung up after an hour thinking something was wrong.

•Yeah, their hold music is terrible but you just have to tough it out. Once you hang up, you're back to square one.

If you're having trouble with the main line, you can also try reaching out through your local WorkSource office. They sometimes have better connections to Washington ESD staff.

•I didn't know WorkSource could help with ESD issues. Do they handle all types of problems?

Vera Visnjic
•Not everything, but they can help with basic issues and sometimes escalate more complex problems for you.

The phone system is definitely the biggest weakness in Washington's unemployment system. I've had much better luck using the secure messaging system in my online account for non-urgent issues.

•How long does it usually take to get a response through secure messaging?

Brielle Johnson
•Usually 3-5 business days, sometimes longer during busy periods. But at least you don't have to sit on hold for hours.

I had good luck with Claimyr too. My adjudication had been pending for over a month and I couldn't get through on the phone. They connected me to an agent who was able to explain what documents I needed to submit to move the process forward.

•That's exactly the kind of help I need. My claim has been stuck for weeks with no explanation.

•Definitely worth trying if you're stuck. Much better than wasting entire days trying to get through on your own.

Just want to add that the customer service reps are generally helpful once you actually get through. The problem is just the volume of calls they're dealing with. Be patient and polite - they're doing their best with an overwhelmed system.

Philip Cowan
•I appreciate that perspective. I get so frustrated with the system that I forget the individual workers are just trying to help.

Clay blendedgen
•Exactly. The reps didn't design the phone system - they're just trying to help people within the limitations they have.

Hope this helps everyone! The key is persistence and having multiple strategies. Don't rely on just one approach - try calling at different times, use the messaging system, and consider services like Claimyr if you're really stuck.

•Good luck! Remember that most issues do get resolved eventually, even if it takes longer than it should.
