What's the phone number to Washington ESD unemployment office?

I've been trying to find the right phone number to call Washington ESD about my unemployment claim but there's like 10 different numbers on their website and I don't know which one to use. My weekly claim got flagged for some reason and I need to talk to someone. Anyone know which number actually gets you to a real person?

The main customer service line is 833-572-8400 but good luck getting through. I've been calling for days and either get a busy signal or they hang up on me after waiting on hold for 2 hours.

Ugh that's what I was afraid of. This is so frustrating when you actually need help with your claim.

Try calling right when they open at 8am, that's usually the best time to get through the phone queue.

There's also the technical support line at 855-682-0785 if you're having issues with your online account, and 800-318-6022 for employer services, but for regular claim questions you want that 833 number the previous poster mentioned.

Thanks! I'll try the 833 number first since it's about my weekly claim status.

Honestly I gave up trying to call after spending literally hours every day for a week. I ended up using this service called Claimyr that calls Washington ESD for you and gets you connected to an actual agent. Check out claimyr.com - they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Worth it if you're stuck like I was.

That sounds too good to be true... how does that even work? Do they just call repeatedly for you?

0 coins

Yeah basically they handle all the calling and waiting so you don't have to sit on hold. When they get an agent on the line, they conference you in. Saved me so much time and frustration tbh.

Interesting, I might try that if I can't get through myself. How long did it take them to connect you?

I've had better luck with the callback feature on the Washington ESD website but even that takes forever. Sometimes they call back the next day, sometimes it's 3-4 days later.

The callback system is hit or miss. I requested one last month and never got a call back at all.

Yeah I tried that too but haven't heard anything yet and it's been 3 days.

Pro tip: if you're calling about adjudication issues specifically, sometimes the appeals line at 855-797-8357 can help even if you haven't filed an appeal yet. They're usually less busy than the main line.

Really? I thought that was only for people who already filed appeals. My claim is stuck in adjudication too.

It's worth a try. The worst they can do is transfer you to the regular line, but sometimes they can at least tell you what's holding up your claim.

THE PHONE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!! I've called 200+ times in the past month and gotten through MAYBE 3 times. This is unacceptable when people are trying to pay rent and buy food.

I feel your pain. The whole system is overwhelmed and they don't seem to care that real people are suffering.

I get the frustration but yelling in all caps doesn't help anyone here. We're all dealing with the same broken system.

For what it's worth, here are all the Washington ESD phone numbers I have saved: Main line 833-572-8400, Technical support 855-682-0785, Appeals 855-797-8357, Fraud hotline 800-246-9763, Employer services 800-318-6022. The main line is definitely your best bet for regular claim issues.

This is super helpful, thank you! I'm going to start with the main line tomorrow morning.

I tried calling last week about my job search requirements and finally got through after 3 hours on hold. The agent was actually really helpful once I got connected, so don't give up completely.

0 coins

That gives me some hope! What time did you call to get through?

I started calling around 9:30am and got through around 12:30pm. Just kept redialing when it would disconnect.

Update: I tried that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier and it actually worked. Got connected to a Washington ESD agent in about 45 minutes instead of wasting my whole day calling. They helped me figure out why my claim was on hold.

0 coins

No way, really? I'm definitely going to try that then. What did they find out about your claim?

Turns out I had an old employer dispute from 2 jobs ago that was holding everything up. The agent was able to clear it right away once we talked through it.

See! I told you it works. Glad you got your issue resolved.

Am I the only one who thinks it's ridiculous that we have to pay a third party service just to talk to our own state agency? This shouldn't be necessary.

0 coins

I agree it shouldn't be necessary but until Washington ESD fixes their phone system, I'd rather pay a little to get through than waste days of my life on hold.

EXACTLY! We already pay taxes for these services and then have to pay again just to access them?!

It's frustrating for sure, but if it solves the problem when you really need help with your claim, sometimes you have to do what works.

Just wanted to add that if you're calling about standby benefits specifically, make sure you mention that right away because they might transfer you to a different department.

•

Good point. Same thing if you're calling about PUA or any other special program - be specific about your claim type upfront.

Thanks everyone for all the advice! I'm going to try calling the main number early tomorrow morning, and if that doesn't work I'll look into that Claimyr thing. Hopefully I can get this sorted out soon.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Hope you get through! Either way should work but definitely try the direct calling first.

Fingers crossed for you! This whole process is way harder than it should be.
