What is the phone number to the Washington ESD unemployment office?
I've been trying to find the correct phone number for Washington ESD unemployment office but I keep getting different numbers online. Some seem to be automated systems that just hang up on me after 20 minutes of waiting. Can someone please share the actual number that works for speaking to a real person about my claim? I need to check on my adjudication status and it's been over 2 weeks with no updates.

The main Washington ESD customer service number is 833-572-8400. But fair warning - you're going to be on hold for hours. I called at 8am sharp when they opened and still waited 3.5 hours to talk to someone.

•3.5 hours?! That's insane. I can't sit on hold that long during work hours.

•Try calling right at 8am when they open, that's your best bet for shorter wait times

I've been calling that number for weeks and either get disconnected or told to call back later due to high call volume. It's so frustrating when you need help with your claim!

•Yeah the system automatically hangs up on you if they're too busy. It's ridiculous.

•Same here - I must have gotten hung up on 20 times before I finally got through

Actually, I found something that worked for me when I was having the same problem. There's a service called Claimyr that calls Washington ESD for you and gets you connected to an actual agent. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked - they called me back within a few hours instead of me sitting on hold all day. Check out claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Is this legit? I've never heard of paying someone to make phone calls for me.

•I was hesitant too but it's way better than wasting entire days trying to get through. They handle the wait time and call you when an agent is ready.

•Interesting... might be worth it if it actually works. The regular number is basically useless.

There's also 800-318-6022 which is supposed to be for technical issues with your account, but sometimes they can help with general claim questions too. Worth trying both numbers.

•Good to know there's a backup number. I'll try this one if the main line doesn't work.

•That tech line usually has shorter wait times in my experience

honestly the phone system is broken. i've called probably 50 times in the past month and gotten through maybe twice. most of the time it just says call back later and hangs up

•This is exactly what I'm dealing with! It's like they don't want people to actually reach them.

•I wonder if they're understaffed or if the system just can't handle the call volume

•Probably both. The unemployment system has been overwhelmed for years now.

I had success calling the 833 number around 4:30pm on a Wednesday. Seems like late afternoon sometimes has better luck than mornings. Only waited about 45 minutes that time.

Anastasia Kozlov
•Really? I would have thought mornings were better. I'll try calling later in the day.

•That's actually a good tip. Maybe everyone calls first thing in the morning so afternoon is less busy.

Another option is the live chat on the Washington ESD website, but that's also usually unavailable when I try to use it. Sometimes you can submit a message through SecureAccess Washington (SAW) but they take forever to respond.

Anastasia Kozlov
•I tried the SAW messaging and it's been 2 weeks with no response. Not helpful when you need immediate help.

•The messaging system is basically useless for urgent issues. Phone is really your only option for quick help.

I used Claimyr last month when I was having issues with my weekly claim not going through. Definitely worth it - they got me connected to an agent the same day and I was able to resolve my issue. Way better than the endless calling and getting hung up on.

•Ok you're the second person to mention this service. Maybe I should look into it.

•Yeah it's legit. I was surprised how well it worked compared to trying to call myself.

•might have to try this if the regular number keeps failing me

Pro tip: if you do get through to someone, have all your information ready - claim number, SSN, dates of employment, etc. They'll ask for everything and if you're not prepared they might transfer you or make you call back.

•Good advice. I'll make sure to have everything written down before I call.

Luca Russo
•Yes! And write down the agent's name and reference number for your call in case you need to follow up.

The whole system is just frustrating. You need help with your unemployment claim but can't actually reach anyone to get help. It's like they set it up to discourage people from calling.

•It definitely feels intentional sometimes. Like they hope you'll just give up and stop trying to call.

•The system is definitely overwhelmed but I don't think they're trying to discourage people on purpose. They just need more staff.

For what it's worth, I finally got through last week after calling 833-572-8400 every 15 minutes for about 3 hours. The agent was actually really helpful once I got connected. So the number works, you just have to be extremely persistent.

•Every 15 minutes for 3 hours... that's dedication. I don't know if I have that kind of patience.

•That's basically what you have to do. It's ridiculous but it's the only way to get through sometimes.

Honestly after dealing with this for months, services like Claimyr are worth every penny. Your time is valuable too and spending entire days trying to reach Washington ESD just isn't sustainable when you're job hunting and dealing with claim issues.

•You make a good point. I've probably wasted 20+ hours trying to get through already.

Ethan Clark
•Exactly. Sometimes you have to pay for solutions that should be free, but that's the reality of the system we're dealing with.

Try calling during lunch break around 12-1pm. I read somewhere that's when they have more agents available and I actually got through in under an hour doing that.

•Thanks for the tip! I'll try calling during lunch tomorrow.

•Interesting timing. I'll have to test that theory myself.

update: tried the lunch break thing and got through in 35 minutes! thanks for the tip @11

•Awesome! Glad it worked for you. That timing trick has saved me so much frustration.

•Ok definitely trying this tomorrow. 35 minutes sounds manageable compared to 3+ hours.

Just to recap the main options: 833-572-8400 is the primary customer service line, 800-318-6022 for technical issues, try calling at 8am, lunch time, or late afternoon for better chances. If you're desperate, services like Claimyr can handle the calling for you.

Anastasia Kozlov
•Perfect summary. I'll start with the lunch break strategy and see how that goes. Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice!

One more thing - make sure you're calling from the phone number they have on file for you. Sometimes they won't help if you're calling from a different number for security reasons.

Anastasia Kozlov
•Oh wow, I didn't know that. I was planning to call from my work phone. Thanks for the heads up!

•Good point. They're pretty strict about verification procedures.

The automated system will also ask you to enter your SSN and claim number before connecting you to hold. Have those ready or you'll have to start over.

Anastasia Kozlov
•Got it. I'll have everything written down and ready to go.

Final thought - if your issue is time-sensitive (like a missed weekly claim deadline), mention that right away when you get connected. They can sometimes expedite things for urgent situations.

Anastasia Kozlov
•My adjudication has been pending for over 2 weeks so I'll definitely mention that. Thanks for all the help everyone!

•Two weeks isn't too bad for adjudication actually. I've seen people wait 6-8 weeks. But definitely worth calling to check on status.

Hope you get through and get your issue resolved! The phone system is frustrating but once you actually talk to an agent they're usually pretty helpful.

•Thanks! I'm feeling more optimistic now that I have some actual strategies to try instead of just randomly calling.

Just wanted to add - if you do end up using Claimyr, they'll call you back when they get an agent on the line so you don't have to sit by the phone waiting. Made it much less stressful for me.

•That callback feature sounds really convenient. I might try the lunch break calling first but good to know that's an option.
