How do I find my Washington ESD unemployment account number?

I've been trying to call Washington ESD about my weekly claim but they keep asking for my account number and I have no idea where to find it. I've looked through all my paperwork and emails but can't locate it anywhere. Is it the same as my claim number? I really need to get through to someone because my claim has been pending for 2 weeks now. Where exactly should I be looking for this account number?

Your account number should be on your initial determination letter from Washington ESD. It's usually at the top right corner of the letter, starts with numbers and might have letters too. Check any mail you got when you first applied.

I've been digging through all my paperwork but I think I might have misplaced that letter. Is there another way to find it?

0 coins

You can also find it when you log into your SecureAccess Washington account - it should show on your claim summary page.

0 coins

yeah its not the same as your claim number, the account number is different. mine was on the monetary determination letter they sent

0 coins

Ugh I think I threw that away thinking it was just another piece of junk mail. This is so frustrating.

If you can't find your physical paperwork, log into your online account at esd.wa.gov. Once you're in, go to your claim details and the account number should be displayed there. It's usually a combination of numbers and letters, different from your Social Security number.

I tried logging in but my account seems to be locked after trying to reset my password yesterday. Can't get past the login screen.

0 coins

That's a common issue. You might need to clear your browser cache or try the account recovery option instead of password reset.

I had the same problem with calling Washington ESD and not being able to get through. Spent literally hours on hold just to get disconnected. Then I found this service called Claimyr that actually got me connected to an agent in like 20 minutes. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's even a video demo showing how it works at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ. Might be worth checking out if you keep having trouble getting through.

0 coins

Never heard of that before. Does it actually work or is it some kind of scam?

0 coins

It's legit, I was skeptical too but it really did get me through when I needed to talk to someone about my adjudication issue. Way better than sitting on hold for hours.

0 coins

How much does something like that cost? I'm already broke waiting for my benefits.

0 coins

The Washington ESD system is such a mess. They make it impossible to find basic information and then when you try to call them the phone system hangs up on you. I've been dealing with this for months.

0 coins

Tell me about it. I've called probably 50 times in the past two weeks and haven't gotten through once.

0 coins

It's like they don't want us to get our benefits. The whole system is designed to frustrate people into giving up.

0 coins

Your account number might also be on any correspondence about your job search requirements or on notices about your weekly claim filing. Check anything you've received from Washington ESD recently.

0 coins

I haven't gotten any mail from them in weeks. My claim just shows pending online with no explanation.

0 coins

If your account is locked, you'll need to call the technical support line, not the regular claims line. The number should be on the Washington ESD website under contact information.

0 coins

I tried that number too but it just gives me a busy signal every time I call.

0 coins

same here, that tech support line is useless

0 coins

I'm in the exact same situation! My claim has been pending for 3 weeks and I can't get through to anyone. This is ridiculous, how are we supposed to pay our bills?

0 coins

Right? I'm about to lose my apartment if this doesn't get resolved soon.

0 coins

Maybe we should try that Claimyr thing the other person mentioned? At this point I'm willing to try anything.

0 coins

For anyone having trouble with locked accounts, make sure you're using the correct SecureAccess Washington (SAW) login, not trying to create a new account. Many people accidentally create duplicate accounts which causes all sorts of problems.

0 coins

How do I know if I accidentally created a duplicate account?

0 coins

If you're getting error messages about existing accounts or if your information doesn't match what Washington ESD has on file, that's usually a sign.

0 coins

check your bank statements too if you've gotten any payments before, sometimes the account number shows up there in the deposit description

0 coins

Good idea, I haven't gotten any payments yet but I'll keep that in mind for the future.

0 coins

The account number format for Washington ESD is usually something like 12345678-AB or similar. It's always longer than just your claim number. Don't confuse it with your Social Security number either, that's completely different.

0 coins

That helps, at least now I know what format to look for.

Just wanted to follow up on the Claimyr suggestion - I used it again last week when I had questions about my job search log and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. Really saved me a lot of frustration compared to trying to call on my own.

0 coins

I'm seriously considering it at this point. How exactly does it work?

0 coins

You just give them your info and they call Washington ESD for you, then connect you when they get an agent on the line. Takes the hassle out of sitting on hold.

0 coins

if all else fails you might have to go to a WorkSource office in person, they can sometimes help with account issues

0 coins

That's a good backup plan, though I'd rather not have to take time off work if I can avoid it.

0 coins

The fact that we have to jump through all these hoops just to find our own account number shows how broken this system is. Washington ESD needs a complete overhaul.

0 coins

Seriously, other states have way better unemployment systems. This is embarrassing.

0 coins

One more suggestion - if you have any text messages from Washington ESD about your claim, sometimes the account number is included in those automated messages. Check your SMS history.

0 coins

I don't think I signed up for text alerts but I'll double check my messages just in case.

0 coins

Also worth noting that if you're still within your first benefit year, your account number shouldn't change even if you have to refile or reopen your claim. So once you find it, write it down somewhere safe.

0 coins

Good point, I'll definitely save it once I track it down.

0 coins

Update: I finally found it on an old email notification I almost deleted. It was buried in the details section. Thanks everyone for the help! Now I just need to actually get through to someone at Washington ESD to discuss my pending claim.

0 coins

Glad you found it! Good luck getting through to them.

0 coins

If you still have trouble calling, you know where to find Claimyr! Worked great for me.

0 coins

This thread was super helpful, I found mine too after checking my email more carefully. Still can't get through on the phone though.

0 coins

same here, at least we're making progress

For future reference, always save important documents from Washington ESD in a dedicated folder, both physical and digital. Makes situations like this much easier to handle.

0 coins

Lesson learned! I'm going to be way more organized going forward.

0 coins

glad this got resolved, hopefully washington esd fixes their phone system soon so we dont have to go through all this just to talk to someone

0 coins

Don't hold your breath, they've had the same problems for years.

I'm dealing with a similar issue right now - can't find my account number anywhere and my claim has been stuck in pending status for over a week. This whole system is so confusing for people who are already stressed about being unemployed. It's frustrating that such basic information is so hard to locate. Thanks for posting this question, the responses have been really helpful in giving me some new places to look.

I totally feel your frustration! Going through unemployment is stressful enough without having to play detective just to find basic account information. I'm in a similar boat - my claim has been pending for what feels like forever and navigating their system is like solving a puzzle. Have you tried checking any old emails from when you first filed? That's where Giovanni ended up finding his. Also, if you're still having trouble getting through by phone, several people here mentioned good results with that Claimyr service. Hang in there - it's ridiculous that we have to jump through these hoops but at least we're not alone in dealing with this mess of a system.

I'm in the exact same situation! It's crazy that finding your own account number is like a treasure hunt. I've been digging through every piece of mail and email I can find. One thing I discovered is that if you have any direct deposit information from previous payments (even if it was just the initial $0 test deposit), sometimes the account number shows up in your bank's transaction details. Also, I noticed some people mentioned checking text messages - I didn't think I had signed up for alerts but found a few automated messages in my spam folder that had partial account info. The whole Washington ESD system really needs an overhaul - we shouldn't have to become detectives just to access our own benefits!

0 coins

I feel for you - the whole process is unnecessarily complicated when you're already dealing with the stress of unemployment. One thing that helped me was creating a simple spreadsheet to track all my Washington ESD correspondence with dates and document types. That way when situations like this come up, I know exactly where to look. Also, if you do end up having to call them repeatedly, try calling right at 8 AM when they open - I've had slightly better luck getting through then, though it's still a nightmare. The Claimyr service that @Dmitry Smirnov mentioned might be worth looking into if you keep hitting dead ends with the regular phone system.

I completely understand your frustration - the Washington ESD system really makes everything harder than it needs to be. One tip that might help: if you have any old voicemails from Washington ESD (sometimes they call about missing documents or claim issues), they sometimes include your account number in those automated messages. I found mine that way after searching everywhere else. Also, if you've ever printed out any confirmation pages after filing weekly claims, the account number is usually at the bottom in small print. It's ridiculous that we have to be detectives just to find our own information, but hopefully one of these suggestions helps you track it down!

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! My claim has been pending for almost three weeks and I've been pulling my hair out trying to find that account number. After reading through this thread, I finally found mine on an old email confirmation from when I first submitted my application - it was in the fine print at the bottom that I had completely overlooked. One thing that might help is if you have the Washington ESD mobile app, sometimes the account info shows up there even when the website is giving you trouble. Also, I noticed that if you have any correspondence about work search requirements or eligibility interviews, the account number is often referenced there too. It's absolutely ridiculous that something so basic is this hard to locate when we're already stressed about our financial situation. Hang in there and keep checking every piece of communication you've received from them!

0 coins

I'm so sorry you're going through this too! The unemployment system really shouldn't make us jump through hoops like this when we're already dealing with financial stress. After reading through everyone's suggestions here, I'd definitely recommend checking your spam/junk email folder first - I've found that Washington ESD emails sometimes end up there, and the account number is usually buried in the details section of confirmation emails. If you're still stuck after that, it might be worth trying that Claimyr service that @Dmitry Smirnov mentioned since so many people seem to have had success with it. The fact that we even need third-party services just to reach our own unemployment office is pretty telling about how broken the system is. Hope you get it sorted out soon!

I just went through this exact same nightmare last month! After hours of searching, I finally found my account number on the very first email I received from Washington ESD when I submitted my initial application - it was literally buried in a paragraph of fine print that I had completely skipped over. The email subject was something like "Application Received Confirmation" and the account number was formatted exactly like @Fatima Al-Farsi mentioned (numbers followed by letters). One thing I learned is to always screenshot or save that initial confirmation email because apparently that's the only reliable place they put your account number upfront. It's absolutely ridiculous that they don't display it prominently on your dashboard or include it in every communication. For what it's worth, once I found my account number and finally got through to an agent (took about 15 tries over two days), they were actually pretty helpful in resolving my pending claim issue. The system is definitely broken but there is light at the end of the tunnel!

0 coins

That's such great advice about screenshotting the initial confirmation email! I wish I had thought of that when I first applied. It's crazy that such important information is buried in fine print instead of being clearly displayed. I'm definitely going to start saving screenshots of everything now, especially after going through this whole ordeal. Thanks for sharing your experience - it gives me hope that once I finally get through to someone, they might actually be able to help resolve my pending claim too. Did they give you any insight into why claims get stuck in pending status for so long?
