Where do I find my unemployment insurance number for Washington ESD claims?
I've been looking everywhere for my unemployment insurance number and can't figure out where it's located. I need it to file my weekly claims but Washington ESD's website isn't very clear about where to find this number. I've checked my determination letter and my online account but I'm not seeing anything labeled as an unemployment insurance number specifically. Is this the same as my claim number or something different? Really confused here and don't want to mess up my weekly filing.

Your unemployment insurance number is usually the same as your Social Security Number for Washington ESD claims. When you file your weekly claim, just use your SSN in the field that asks for your UI number.

•Thanks! That makes sense now. I was overthinking it and looking for some separate number.

•Wait really? I thought there was supposed to be a separate claim number or something. Are you sure about this?

Actually I think there might be some confusion here. When I filed my claim last year, I got a claim confirmation number that was different from my SSN. Check your initial claim confirmation email or letter from Washington ESD.

•I'll check my emails again. I might have missed that detail in all the paperwork.

•Hmm maybe they changed the system? When I filed in 2023 they just used SSN for everything.

If you're having trouble finding specific information like this on the Washington ESD website, I had success using Claimyr.com to get through to an actual agent who could walk me through where to find my UI number. They have a service that helps you bypass the busy phone lines. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•That's interesting, I'll check it out. The phone lines have been impossible to get through on my own.

•Never heard of this before but honestly anything is better than spending hours on hold with Washington ESD.

Look on your monetary determination letter - that's where all your claim details are listed including your claim number. If you can't find that letter, log into your SecureAccess Washington account and look under 'Correspondence' for your determination letter.

•Found it! It was in my correspondence section like you said. Thanks so much!

•Good catch - I always forget about the correspondence section in the online portal.

This is so confusing why can't Washington ESD just make this stuff clearer??? I've been filing for 6 weeks and still don't understand half the terminology they use.

•I know it's frustrating but once you get the hang of it, the weekly claims become pretty routine.

•I hope so because right now every week feels like I'm gonna mess something up and lose my benefits.

Wait so is the unemployment insurance number the same as the claim number or not? I'm getting different answers here and now I'm more confused than when I started.

•They're the same thing - 'unemployment insurance number' and 'claim number' are just different ways of referring to your unique identifier for your Washington ESD claim.

•Exactly right. Different terms but they refer to the same number you use to identify your specific claim.

Just wanted to add that if you lost your determination letter and can't access your online account for some reason, you can also find your claim number on any correspondence from Washington ESD - even the weekly claim reminders they send have your claim number on them.

•That's helpful to know for future reference. I should probably save those emails better.

•Oh wow I never noticed that! I just delete those emails usually.

Pro tip: once you find your claim number, write it down somewhere safe! You'll need it every week for your claims and it's annoying to have to look it up each time.

•Good idea, I'll add it to my phone notes right now.

•Yeah I learned this the hard way after spending 20 minutes looking for it every Sunday morning lol

If anyone else is struggling to reach Washington ESD for questions like this, I recently discovered Claimyr and it was a game changer. Finally got through to someone who could answer my questions instead of being on hold forever.

•How much does something like that cost? I'm already tight on money being unemployed.

•It's worth checking out their website at claimyr.com - they focus on the value of actually getting through rather than wasting your time on hold.

The whole Washington ESD system is so unnecessarily complicated. Like why can't they just have ONE number for everything instead of claim numbers and UI numbers and all this other stuff?

StarStrider
•I think it's because different parts of the system were built at different times and they never fully integrated everything.

•That makes sense but it's still frustrating for us trying to navigate it all.

Just to confirm what others said - your unemployment insurance number IS your claim number. You can find it on your monetary determination, any correspondence from Washington ESD, or in your online account under claim details.

•Thanks for the confirmation! I was able to find mine and file my weekly claim successfully.

One thing to be careful about - make sure you're using the right claim number if you've filed for unemployment before. Sometimes people accidentally use an old claim number from a previous year.

•Good point! This is my first time filing so I don't have to worry about that, but I can see how that would be confusing.

•Yeah I did that by mistake and it messed up my first few weekly claims. Had to call Washington ESD to get it sorted out.

For what it's worth, I had a similar question last month and used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. The agent I spoke with was really helpful and explained where to find all the different numbers on my Washington ESD documents. Saved me a lot of time and confusion.

•Did they help you with other questions too or just finding the claim number?

•They helped with several things actually - explained my adjudication status and what I needed to do for my job search requirements too.

This might be obvious but make sure you're looking at current correspondence from Washington ESD. I was looking at old paperwork from 2022 and couldn't figure out why the numbers didn't work lol

•Ha! That would definitely be confusing. Thanks for sharing that so others don't make the same mistake.

Quick question - once I have my unemployment insurance number, do I need to enter it exactly as it appears on my determination letter? Like with dashes or spaces?
0 coins
StarStrider
•Usually you can enter it with or without formatting. The Washington ESD system is pretty forgiving about spaces and dashes in claim numbers.

Maya Patel
•Perfect, thanks! I was worried about messing up the formatting.

Honestly the best thing I did was bookmark my Washington ESD account page and the weekly claim filing page. Makes it so much easier to find everything when I need it.
