Washington ESD where can i find my personal identification number for unemployment claim access
I'm trying to log into my Washington ESD account but it's asking for my personal identification number and I have no idea where to find it. I filed my initial claim about 2 weeks ago and got some paperwork in the mail but there's so many different numbers on everything. Is this the same as my claim number or something different? I need to file my weekly claim but can't get past the login screen.

Your personal identification number (PIN) should have been mailed to you in a separate letter from Washington ESD after you filed your initial claim. It's usually a 4-digit number and comes in its own envelope, not with your other claim paperwork. Check your mail carefully - sometimes people throw it away thinking it's junk mail.

•I'll go through my mail again. I might have tossed it by accident thinking it was spam or something.

•yeah mine came in a plain white envelope with no Washington ESD logo, almost missed it completely

The PIN is different from your claim number btw. Your claim number is longer and starts with letters, the PIN is just 4 digits for logging into the system to file weekly claims.

•Ok that makes sense, I was trying to use my claim number as the PIN and it wasn't working

If you lost your PIN or never received it, you'll need to call Washington ESD to get a new one issued. Fair warning though - their phone lines are absolutely slammed and you might be on hold for hours. I've had better luck using claimyr.com to get through to an actual agent. They have a service that calls for you and connects you when someone picks up. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Never heard of that service before but anything is better than sitting on hold all day. How much does it cost?

•I don't remember the exact pricing but it was worth it to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD instead of getting hung up on constantly

•just tried calling this morning and got disconnected after waiting 45 minutes, might have to check out that claimyr thing

Before you call, double check that you're not confusing your PIN with your SecureAccess Washington (SAW) password. Some people get mixed up between the two login systems.

•What's the difference? I thought they were the same thing

•SAW is the general login for all Washington state services, your ESD PIN is specifically for unemployment. You need both to access your claim online.

this is so confusing, why do they need so many different passwords and numbers??? I just want to file my weekly claim

•I know right? The whole system is unnecessarily complicated. At least once you get your PIN set up the weekly claims are pretty straightforward.

•hopefully... this is my first time on unemployment and everything feels like a maze

Check your spam folder too! My PIN letter got filtered as junk mail for some reason. Also make sure you're looking at the right envelope - Washington ESD sends a lot of different letters and they all look similar.

•Good point, I'll check spam. I've gotten like 5 different letters from them already

If calling doesn't work out, you can also try going to a WorkSource office in person. They sometimes can help with PIN issues, though not all locations handle unemployment specifically so call ahead first.

•do they still require appointments or can you just walk in now?

•Most places are walk-in again but some still prefer appointments. Best to call the specific office you want to visit.

I lost mine too and ended up using that claimyr service someone mentioned. Took about 20 minutes total to get connected to Washington ESD and they reset my PIN right over the phone. Way better than the 3 hours I spent trying to call directly the day before.

•That's encouraging! I think I'll try that if I can't find the letter

•sounds too good to be true honestly, how do you know it's legit?

•They connect you directly to the real Washington ESD phone line, you're talking to actual ESD staff not some third party. Just makes the waiting part easier.

Whatever you do, don't wait too long to figure this out. You need to file your weekly claims on time or you could lose benefits. The deadline is usually Saturday night for the previous week.

•Oh no, I didn't know there was a deadline! This is stressing me out even more now

•Don't panic, if you miss one week you can usually file late but you might need to explain why. Just get it sorted asap.

try looking for an envelope that says something like 'Personal Identification Number' or 'PIN Notice' in the subject line. Mine was really obvious once I knew what to look for

•I found it! It was buried under a pile of other mail but the envelope said 'UI PIN' on it. Thanks everyone!

For future reference, your PIN doesn't change unless you specifically request a new one, so keep that letter somewhere safe. I've been using the same PIN for over a year now.

•Good to know, I'll put it with my other important papers this time

Just a heads up - if you do end up needing to call Washington ESD for a PIN reset, have your SSN and some basic claim info ready. They'll ask verification questions before issuing a new PIN.

•what kind of verification questions do they usually ask?

•Things like your last employer, when you filed your claim, your address, maybe some wage information. Pretty standard identity verification stuff.

Glad you found your PIN! Just remember to file your weekly claim every week even if you worked some hours. The system will calculate any partial benefits you're entitled to.

•Thanks! I actually did work a few hours this week so I was wondering about that

•Yeah always report all work and wages honestly. It's better to report too much than too little and risk an overpayment later.

If anyone else is reading this and still can't find their PIN, that claimyr service really does work. Used it twice now when I needed to talk to Washington ESD about different issues. Beats sitting on hold forever.

•good to know there's options besides just calling directly. the regular phone line is basically unusable most days

This whole thread is super helpful! I'm in a similar situation where I filed my claim a few weeks ago and have been getting all sorts of mail from Washington ESD. It's honestly overwhelming trying to figure out which document is which. The tip about looking for "UI PIN" on the envelope is great - I'm going to go through my mail pile again tonight. It's reassuring to know that if I can't find it, there are options like calling (even if it takes forever) or using that claimyr service people mentioned. The whole system really could be more user-friendly though!
