How to reset unemployment PIN for Washington ESD account access
My Washington ESD PIN isn't working anymore and I can't file my weekly claim. I've been trying to log into my account on the eServices website but it keeps saying my PIN is incorrect. I know I'm entering it right because I've used the same one for months. Does anyone know how to reset your unemployment PIN? I'm worried I'm going to miss my filing deadline and lose my benefits.

You can reset your PIN through the SecureAccess Washington (SAW) portal. Go to the main login page and look for the 'Forgot PIN' link. You'll need your SSN and some personal info to verify your identity.

•Thanks! I found the link but it's asking for information I don't remember providing when I first set up the account.

•Try using your address from when you first filed your claim. Sometimes they use older info for verification purposes.

I had this exact same problem last month. The PIN reset process is kind of confusing because there are actually two different systems - your SAW account PIN and your Washington ESD eServices PIN. Which one are you trying to reset?

•I think it's the eServices PIN? I'm trying to file my weekly claim and it won't let me in.

QuantumQuest
•Yeah that's the eServices PIN. You need to reset that through the unemployment website specifically, not through SAW.

Before you go through all that hassle, have you tried calling Washington ESD? I know the wait times are brutal but sometimes they can reset your PIN over the phone faster than doing it online. I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an agent when I was having similar issues. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works.

•I tried calling but got disconnected after waiting 2 hours. What exactly does Claimyr do?

Jamal Anderson
•It basically keeps calling the Washington ESD number for you and puts you in line when they get through. Way better than sitting on hold all day.

•Is that actually legit? Sounds too good to be true.

UGH this happened to me too and it was so frustrating!! I think there's a bug in their system because my PIN worked fine one week and then suddenly stopped working. The reset process took forever.

•How long did it take for you to get back in? I'm really stressed about missing my claim filing.

•Like 3 days total. But don't worry about missing your filing - you have until the end of the week and they sometimes give extensions for technical issues.

Actually, let me give you the exact steps for resetting your eServices PIN: 1) Go to esd.wa.gov and click on 'File Weekly Claim' 2) On the login page, click 'Forgot PIN' 3) Enter your SSN and ZIP code 4) Answer the security questions 5) Create a new PIN. Make sure it's 4 digits and not something obvious like 1234.

•Perfect! I'm trying this right now. Do I need to use the same ZIP code from when I first applied?
0 coins
Zoe Dimitriou
•Yes, use the ZIP code that's on file with your claim. If you've moved since filing, use the old one.

•This is exactly what I needed too, thanks for the detailed steps!

Why is Washington ESD's system so terrible? Every other state has a better unemployment website. I swear they make it hard on purpose.

•Right?? My sister lives in Oregon and their system is so much easier to use.

•The system did get better after they updated it in 2023, but yeah, it's still not great compared to other states.

If the online reset doesn't work, you might need to call the technical support line instead of the regular claims line. The number is different and usually has shorter wait times.

Andre Lefebvre
•Do you know what that number is? I can't find it on their website.

Fatima Al-Hashemi
•I think it's 833-572-8400 but double check on the Washington ESD website to make sure that's still current.

Just a heads up - when you reset your PIN, it might take up to 24 hours before you can actually use it to file your claim. Don't panic if it doesn't work immediately.

•Good to know! I was wondering why some people said it took a few days.

•Yeah mine took like 18 hours before it would let me log in with the new PIN.

Make sure you're not confusing your PIN with your password. Your PIN is just 4 numbers for filing weekly claims. Your password is for your SAW account and can have letters and symbols.

•Wait, these are different things? I thought they were the same!

Sofia Martinez
•Nope, totally different. PIN is just for weekly claims, password is for accessing your full account info and documents.

I had to reset mine three times before it finally worked. Keep trying if the first attempt doesn't go through - their system is glitchy.

•That's annoying but good to know. I'll be persistent.

•Same here, took multiple tries. I think their servers get overloaded on Sundays when everyone's filing claims.

Update on the Claimyr thing - I actually used it again last week to get through about a different issue and it worked great. Got connected to a Washington ESD agent in about 30 minutes instead of waiting hours. Really helpful for PIN resets and other account problems.

•How much does it cost though? I'm already strapped for cash.

•It's worth checking out their site for pricing, but honestly the time saved makes it worth it if you're stuck.

Pro tip: after you reset your PIN, write it down somewhere safe. I use a password manager app on my phone so I don't forget it again.

•Good idea! I've been trying to memorize everything but clearly that's not working out.

•Just don't store it in a file called 'passwords' on your computer - that's not secure at all.

If you're really stuck and can't get the PIN reset to work, you can also file your weekly claim by phone. The automated system doesn't require your PIN, just your SSN and some basic info.

Andre Lefebvre
•Oh that's a good backup option! What's the phone number for that?
0 coins
Yara Khoury
•It should be on your determination letter, but I think it's 800-318-6022. The automated system is available 24/7.

•The phone filing is actually faster than the website sometimes, especially on busy days.

Remember that you have to file your weekly claim by the deadline or you'll lose that week's benefits. Don't wait too long trying to fix the PIN issue - use the phone system if you have to.

Andre Lefebvre
•Yeah I'm definitely not missing the deadline. Thanks for reminding me about that!

Paolo Marino
•What is the deadline exactly? Is it Sunday night or Monday morning?
0 coins
StardustSeeker
•You have to file by 11:59 PM on Sunday for the previous week. So if you're filing for the week ending Saturday, you have until Sunday night.

I've seen some people say you can reset your PIN at a WorkSource office too, but I'm not sure if that's true. Has anyone tried that?

Oliver Becker
•I don't think they can reset PINs at WorkSource. They might be able to help you with other account issues though.

QuantumQuest
•WorkSource can help with job search requirements and some account questions, but PIN resets have to be done online or by calling Washington ESD directly.

UPDATE: I was able to reset my PIN using the steps from earlier! It took about 2 hours to actually work after I reset it, but I was able to file my weekly claim. Thanks everyone for the help! For anyone else having this issue, definitely try the online reset first before calling.

For future reference, if your PIN stops working suddenly like this, it might be because you entered it wrong too many times and the system locked you out. That's what happened to my cousin - he had to wait 24 hours before he could even try to reset it.

Andre Lefebvre
•That might be what happened to me actually. I was trying different combinations thinking I forgot it.

•Yeah the system locks you out after 3 wrong attempts I think. Really annoying when you're just trying to remember your own PIN.

One more thing - make sure you're using the right website. Sometimes people accidentally go to scam sites that look like the real Washington ESD site. Always use esd.wa.gov

•Good point! I almost fell for one of those fake sites once. They look really convincing.

•Always check the URL bar to make sure it says .wa.gov at the end. If it's anything else, it's probably fake.

Just wanted to mention that Claimyr thing again since a few people asked about it. I tried it last month when I couldn't get through to fix my adjudication issue and it really did work. Got me connected to an actual Washington ESD person who could help. Sometimes it's worth paying a little to save hours of frustration.

Another thing to keep in mind - if you're still having trouble after trying the online reset, make sure you're not mixing up your old PIN with a temporary one. Sometimes when you reset it, the system gives you a temporary PIN that you have to change to a permanent one on first login. I got confused by this and kept trying to use the temporary one after I had already changed it. Check your email for any confirmation messages from ESD that might have additional instructions.

Max Reyes
•That's a really good point about the temporary PIN! I've made that mistake before with other accounts where they give you a temp password that you have to change immediately. It's so easy to get confused about which one you're supposed to be using. Thanks for mentioning the email confirmation too - I always forget to check those for important details.

One more tip that saved me recently - if you've moved since you first filed your unemployment claim, make sure you're using the address that was on file when you originally applied, not your current address. I kept getting locked out during the PIN reset process because I was entering my new ZIP code, but the system was still expecting my old one from when I first set up the account. Once I used the original address info, the reset went through smoothly. Also, if you've changed your phone number, you might need to update that with ESD before the security questions will work properly.

•This is such helpful advice! I had a similar issue where I kept using my current info instead of what was originally on file. It's really frustrating that their system doesn't update automatically when you move or change contact details. Do you know if there's a way to update your address info with ESD so future PIN resets use the current information, or do we always have to remember what we originally entered?
